Situated on the Illinois State Fairgrounds, this campground offers a unique camping experience with budget-friendly rates and the potential for unexpected events and a friendly atmosphere, as highlighted by recent customer reviews.
The Environment of the Illinois State Fair Campground
The environment of the Illinois State Fair Campground is somewhat unique due to its location on the fairgrounds. Unlike campgrounds situated in dedicated natural parks or forests, this campground offers a more utilitarian setting with the infrastructure of the fairgrounds surrounding it. However, the positive reviews suggest that despite this, it provides a comfortable and convenient base for travelers and locals alike. The presence of "lots of choices for campsites" implies a potentially large area dedicated to camping, capable of accommodating various types of camping setups, likely including RVs and tents. While not explicitly described as heavily wooded or scenic in a traditional sense, the convenience and affordability seem to be the primary environmental benefits, offering a practical and accessible outdoor stay within the city of Springfield.
The fairgrounds themselves often feature open spaces and some green areas, which campers can likely utilize. The infrastructure includes roads, parking areas, and the various buildings and facilities associated with the annual state fair. Depending on the time of year, the atmosphere could range from quiet and functional during non-fair periods to potentially more lively if events or preparations for the fair are taking place. The reviews suggest a pleasant and friendly atmosphere among the people staying at the campground.

Illinois State Fair Campground Reviews
An unexpected gem! Lots of choices for campsites, large bathroom/shower and electricity for only $25 a night! Just $20 for seniors, and they even refunded us $5 when they saw we didn’t hook up to the electric. Plus, we got a surprise entertainment in a Belgian draft horse exhibition going on this weekend. People were super friendly here, too. We couldn’t ask for more.
Sep 27, 2024 · Nicole RobertsonGreat spot for camping at the best price you will ever find. We just used for a stopover to dump and fill relax a bit. Will always make a stop here when traveling. Not actual pics of campground, but that is what we were driving.
Apr 17, 2024 · Lance MeffordGreat location and convenient campground for visiting Springfield area sites. Campsites are basic well maintained, clean and have electric and water facilities. Not a fancy resort style campground. Good security and quiet area.
Jul 19, 2023 · Mark FrenchVery laid back. Not a lot of BS rules. Everyone staying here was very respectful. No load noises, dogs were all quiet. Our neighbors were great. And only $20 a night could not beat it. They have full hook ups at some spots with 50amp. We choose a spot in the grass by a big old oak tree. There was no sewer and only 30 amp. But the dump station it on the way out. Would definitely recommend
Oct 23, 2024 · Dennis HCan’t beat the convenience and price. Stayed 2 nights, had a full hook up, water pressure was great. Will definitely use this campground again when passing through town. We chose our own site, some are more level than others but really not an issue. Heard a couple of trains pass by in the evening. The parking lot (we chose to park in) was empty when we went to sleep and full of cars the next morning. Wasn’t expecting it but also not a problem for a couple day lay over. There were other areas we could have parked that might have been more private, the man in the office said they have 1100 sites here.
