Iris Meadow Campground Introduce
For local users in California and those searching within the "Camping Near Me" category for a picturesque and nature-focused camping experience in the Mammoth Lakes area, Iris Meadow Campground, located on Rock Creek Rd, Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546, offers a compelling option. You can reach them at (760) 873-2400 or via mobile phone at +1 760-873-2400. Based on the available customer reviews, Iris Meadow Campground is particularly noted for its stunning fall scenery and its access to prime fishing and recreational areas, although it operates as a primitive campground.
One of the standout features of Iris Meadow Campground, as highlighted by a reviewer, is the "Beautiful Fall colors late September/early October." This makes it an ideal destination for those seeking a vibrant autumn camping experience as part of their "Camping Near Me" explorations. The presence of "Lots of Aspen around the meadow" further enhances the fall foliage, creating a visually spectacular environment for campers and nature enthusiasts. The reviewer also noted that it was "Not too busy this time of year," suggesting a more tranquil experience during the peak of the fall color season.
Another reviewer provided important information regarding the campground's nature, stating, "This is primitive camping - no hook ups for RV's." This is a crucial detail for those searching "Camping Near Me," especially RV owners who require electrical, water, or sewer hookups. Iris Meadow Campground caters to a different style of camping, focusing on a more back-to-nature experience without the amenities typically found in developed RV parks. Tent campers and those comfortable with self-sufficient camping will find this aspect more aligned with their preferences.
Despite being closed due to "Winter storm damage" at the time of one review, the natural beauty of the area remained evident. The reviewer, who fished Rock Creek through the campground, described it as looking "great." This underscores the campground's prime location along Rock Creek, which is known for its fishing opportunities. The easy access to "Rock Creek and Rock Creek Lake" is another significant advantage of Iris Meadow Campground. Rock Creek Lake is a popular destination for fishing, boating, and hiking, and being able to access these attractions directly from the campground enhances its appeal for outdoor enthusiasts exploring "Camping Near Me" options.
The term "primitive camping" implies that Iris Meadow Campground likely offers very basic amenities, if any. Campers should expect to be self-reliant, bringing their own water, food, shelter, and any necessary equipment. It is unlikely to have restrooms with running water or flush toilets, and amenities like picnic tables and fire rings might be minimal or non-existent. Understanding this is essential for anyone considering camping here, as it requires a different level of preparation compared to developed campgrounds.
The environment surrounding Iris Meadow Campground is clearly a major draw. The presence of a meadow suggests open spaces and potentially wildlife viewing opportunities. The abundance of Aspen trees indicates a beautiful and often vibrant landscape, particularly stunning during the fall. The proximity to Rock Creek and Rock Creek Lake provides opportunities for fishing, hiking along the creek, and exploring the lake and its surroundings. The Eastern Sierra region is known for its dramatic mountain scenery, clear skies, and abundant outdoor recreational activities, all of which would likely be accessible from Iris Meadow Campground.
For local users seeking a more rustic and natural "Camping Near Me" experience, Iris Meadow Campground offers a prime location with exceptional fall colors and access to excellent fishing and recreational areas. The lack of RV hookups and the designation as primitive camping mean it is best suited for tent campers and those who prefer a more self-sufficient style of camping. The beauty of the Aspen trees in the fall and the proximity to Rock Creek and Rock Creek Lake are significant features that make this campground stand out for those prioritizing natural beauty and outdoor activities over modern conveniences.
Potential visitors should be aware of the "primitive camping" nature of Iris Meadow Campground and come prepared with all necessary supplies and equipment. They should also check the current status of the campground, as one review mentioned a closure due to winter storm damage. Information on seasonal closures, fees (if any), and any specific regulations can usually be obtained by contacting the phone number provided or checking with the relevant managing agency for the Mammoth Lakes area.
In conclusion, Iris Meadow Campground in Mammoth Lakes offers a unique "Camping Near Me" experience characterized by its beautiful fall colors, access to Rock Creek and Rock Creek Lake, and a primitive camping environment. It is an ideal destination for tent campers and those seeking a more natural and self-sufficient outdoor adventure in a stunning Eastern Sierra setting. The lack of RV hookups and the need for self-reliance are important considerations, but the scenic beauty and recreational opportunities make it a worthwhile option for those who appreciate a more rugged camping experience.

Iris Meadow Campground Reviews
Beautiful Fall colors late September/early October. Not too busy this time of year. Lots of Aspen around the meadow.
Oct 09, 2024 · Ted BuckleyCampground was closed due to Winter storm damage. I fished Rock Creek through this Campground and it looks great. This is primitive camping - no hook ups for RV's, but the scenery and access to Rock Creek and Rock Creek Lake make up for it.
Oct 14, 2023 · Steve AlbanoCampgroud is nice and right next to river, but the host was very passive aggressive. He threaten to call the police if we didn't move our tent away from the creek. He cited some rule about needing to be a hundred ft away from the creek. This was impossible because our entire site was within 100 ft. I think he didn't like us and wanted his fishing spot back. Too much drama. If you don't want people to camp there put up a sign. Stay away from this place and their random rule enforcement.
Aug 28, 2020 · erick pfaffWe were there just a short time. So could only enjoy the view and the river flows!
Jul 02, 2023 · Crystal Pharma (Sreymom)The campground was beautiful. There's a wonderful Creek that runs through it and the fall colors were amazing in October.
