Island Lake Campground Introduce
Are you a local enthusiast searching for a genuine 'camping near me' experience that embraces the tranquility of nature? Island Lake Campground, located in Rose City, MI 48654, USA, offers a rustic retreat within a state forest setting. For those who appreciate spacious campsites and a pristine lake environment, this campground might be the perfect escape. You can reach them at (989) 826-3252 or +1 989-826-3252 for any inquiries.
Based on feedback from fellow campers, Island Lake Campground provides a distinctly rustic camping experience. It's important to note, as highlighted by a reviewer, that this is a state forest campground. This designation implies a focus on natural surroundings and a more primitive camping style. Consequently, campers should be aware that the campground does not offer electric hookups or showers at the campsites. This adds to the back-to-nature appeal for those seeking a more traditional camping adventure.
Despite the rustic nature, the facilities at Island Lake Campground are not entirely basic. One reviewer specifically praised the vault toilets, describing them as "very modernized and clean," especially when compared to other rustic campgrounds they had visited. This suggests that while the campground forgoes some modern conveniences at the individual sites, it prioritizes hygiene and comfort in its communal facilities.
A significant draw of Island Lake Campground is its namesake lake. The lake is spring-fed, which contributes to its exceptional water clarity. Furthermore, to preserve the pristine quality of the water and maintain a peaceful atmosphere, only electric boats are permitted on the lake. This restriction ensures a quieter environment and minimizes potential pollution, making it ideal for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and leisurely electric boating.
For those looking forward to some lakeside relaxation, the campground does offer a beach area. However, one reviewer noted that the beach "could use a little grooming" due to the presence of weeds growing in the sand. This suggests that while there is a beach for enjoying the water, potential visitors might want to be aware of its current condition.
The setting of Island Lake Campground offers a blend of natural beauty and proximity to some private properties. A reviewer pointed out that "much of the surrounding areas on the lake is private property," indicating that the campground is not entirely secluded. While you'll be immersed in nature within the campground and on the lake, it's worth knowing that the surrounding shoreline is not exclusively public land.
Overall, the general consensus among reviewers who appreciate a more traditional camping experience is positive. One camper summarized their stay by saying, "Overall, this was a nice rustic camping area on a very clean lake." This encapsulates the key features of the campground: its rustic charm and the appeal of the clean, spring-fed lake with its electric boat restriction.
Another reviewer provided a slightly different perspective, noting that "all sites are paved" and that the "toilet areas are half way clean." The paved sites could be seen as a benefit for setting up tents or parking vehicles, potentially offering a more stable and less muddy surface. However, the comment about the cleanliness of the toilet areas being only "half way clean" suggests that while generally acceptable, it might not meet everyone's standards of hygiene.
This same reviewer also brought up a potential downside that is not directly related to the campground's facilities but can significantly impact the camping experience: noise from other campers. They mentioned "loud mouth people, barking dogs and generators ruined a great weekend." While the campground itself may offer a pleasant environment, the behavior of some visitors can sometimes detract from the peace and quiet that many campers seek. It's important to be aware that noise levels can vary depending on the other campers present during your stay.
Considering all the feedback, Island Lake Campground is best suited for individuals and families who appreciate a more basic, rustic camping experience in a natural setting. The clean, spring-fed lake with its restriction on motorized boats is a major highlight, offering a tranquil environment for water activities. The paved campsites and modernized vault toilets provide a degree of convenience within the rustic framework. However, potential visitors should be prepared for the absence of electric hookups and showers at the sites, and be aware that the beach might require some grooming and that surrounding areas include private properties. Additionally, like any campground, the overall experience can be influenced by the behavior of fellow campers.
For local users seeking a 'camping near me' option that prioritizes a clean lake and a spacious, albeit rustic, campsite, Island Lake Campground in Rose City presents a viable choice. If you value a peaceful lake environment for swimming and electric boating, and you are comfortable with the amenities typically found in a state forest campground (no electric or showers at sites), then Island Lake Campground could be a great fit for your next outdoor adventure. We recommend calling them at (989) 826-3252 or +1 989-826-3252 to inquire about site availability and any specific regulations or recommendations for your visit. Embrace the natural beauty and tranquility of Island Lake for a refreshing camping experience.

Nice campground! I really enjoyed the camping experience.Even though it may not say in the title here on the google reviews, this place is a state forrest campround. Therefore, it is rustic: Very spacious sites, no electric, or no showers. The vault toilets are very modernized and clean, unlike some of the other rustic campgrounds I've stayed at.The lake is spring fed and only electric boats are allowed. Therefore, the water is very clean. The beach could use a little grooming though as there are a lot of weeds growing in the sand.Much of the surrounding areas on the lake is private property. It's not entirely a secluded area.Overall, this was a nice rustic camping area on a very clean lake.

Aug 22, 2019 · Jessica BreezeeJust spent a great week camping at Island Lake. I have loved this campground for almost 7 decades. Very clean spacious camp sites. Happy to see the return of having a campground host. Barb & Dan were helpful and friendly. My only concern is the condition of the beach. It needs some TLC!
Aug 14, 2018 · Larry CurtisMy daughter and I stayed there a few nights. You self pay and I didn't see 1 cop or ranger. Wasn't rowdy but everyone did their thing. Nice if you don't like pigs and authority on your case because there isn't any. Swim spot plus semi secluded camp sites
