Island Resort Campground Introduce
For local users in the Newark, Maryland area seeking "camping near me," Island Resort Campground, located at 9537 Croppers Island Rd, Newark, MD 21841, USA, presents an option that appears to offer affordability and spacious campsites, according to recent reviews. However, it's crucial for potential visitors to consider the mixed feedback regarding the campground's amenities and customer service to determine if it aligns with their expectations for a local camping experience.
The environment of Island Resort Campground is not extensively detailed in the provided reviews, but one positive aspect highlighted is the size of the campsites. A visitor who stayed for an extended period noted that "The sites are large and spacious." This suggests that regardless of whether you are tent camping or RV camping, you can likely expect ample room at your site. This spaciousness can contribute to a more comfortable and less crowded camping experience, allowing for more privacy and room for outdoor activities at your individual site.
In terms of services and amenities, the reviews paint a somewhat contrasting picture. One long-term visitor who stayed from July to September 2024 expressed significant concerns, stating that "most of the amenities are run down and they need to put money into the amenities." This suggests that while the campground might offer a range of facilities, their condition may be subpar and in need of maintenance or upgrades. Potential campers should be prepared that certain amenities might not be in optimal working order or might appear dated.
Conversely, another reviewer who stayed during Ocean City Bike Week had a more positive experience, mentioning the presence of "laundry on site and a general store should you need anything." These are valuable conveniences for campers, especially for longer stays or when unexpected needs arise. On-site laundry facilities can be particularly beneficial for extended trips, while a general store can provide access to basic necessities, snacks, and perhaps some camping supplies without having to leave the campground. This suggests that while some amenities might be lacking or run down, essential services like laundry and a store are available.
Customer service at Island Resort Campground appears to be an area of concern for some visitors. One full-time RVer with experience at over 100 campgrounds described the "front desk staff generally aren't very friendly, they are strict." This negative feedback regarding the initial point of contact can significantly impact a guest's overall impression of a campground. The strictness mentioned could relate to campground policies, which, while necessary, might be enforced in a manner that some guests find unwelcoming.
The same reviewer also shared a negative experience regarding a reservation cancellation and the campground's deposit policy. They were required to pay a $500 deposit for a month-long stay and were denied a refund when they had to cancel due to their RV not being ready, as it was not within 30 days of the reservation. They claimed they were unaware of this policy because they never received a confirmation email (due to an issue with the email address not being their error). This situation highlights the importance of clear communication regarding policies and the potential for frustration when these policies are strictly enforced, especially in cases where the guest believes they did not receive the necessary information.
On a more positive note regarding customer interaction, another reviewer who enjoyed their stay during Bike Week described the staff as "very kind people" and mentioned that "the security at the gate always wore a smile." They also felt a sense of community at the campground and believed that the staff "all seemed to really enjoy being there." This contrasting feedback suggests that experiences with the staff might vary, or perhaps there have been changes in personnel or service approach over time.
In terms of features, beyond the spacious sites, laundry, and general store, the reviews do not provide extensive details about other amenities. It's unclear if the campground offers facilities such as restrooms with showers, recreational areas (e.g., playgrounds, swimming pools), or specific types of hookups for RVs. The lack of mention of these features could imply that they are either basic, also in need of TLC as mentioned, or simply not noteworthy enough to be highlighted in the provided reviews.
Regarding promotional information, the reviews do not contain any details about special offers, discounts for local residents, or seasonal promotions. The only price-related comment is the affordability of Island Resort Campground "compared to Sun Outdoors in area." This suggests that one of the primary draws might be its lower cost relative to other camping options in the vicinity. Local users prioritizing budget might find this to be a significant advantage. To learn about any specific promotions or current rates, it would be necessary to contact Island Resort Campground directly via phone at (410) 641-9838 or +1 410-641-9838.
In conclusion, Island Resort Campground offers a local "camping near me" option in Newark, MD, with the primary advantages appearing to be its large and spacious campsites and its affordability compared to other campgrounds in the area. It also provides the convenience of on-site laundry and a general store. However, potential visitors should be aware of the concerns raised in the reviews regarding the run-down condition of some amenities and potentially strict or unfriendly front desk staff. Experiences with staff seem to vary. Local users should weigh the benefits of affordability and site size against the potential drawbacks related to amenities and customer service. It is recommended to inquire directly with the campground about the current condition of amenities and their policies, especially regarding reservations and cancellations, before making a booking decision.

Island Resort Campground Reviews
We stayed at this campground July - September 2024. The campground could use some TLC - most of the amenities are run down and they need to put money into the amenities. The sites are large and spacious, but that’s the only thing going for this campground besides the affordability compared to Sun Outdoors in area. The front desk staff generally arent very friendly, they are strict. We’re full time RVers and have been to over 100+ campgrounds so for us to say this.. says a lot and we do Thousand Trails (if you know you know). We called to stay again mid May to mid June 2025 since we have family in area, never received a confirmation email, and called to cancel reservation since we are waiting on our RV to be ready/fixed and it won’t be ready in time. For our month stay, a $500 deposit is required and since we didn’t cancel within 30 days of reservation they weren’t willing to give money back.. we didn’t know this policy since we never got the email. They didn’t send the confirmation to the correct email address, not an error on our end.If you are looking for a very sub par campground, this does the job, but don’t expect much.
Apr 23, 2025 · Libby ThomsAdorable little spot with very kind people. We stayed here for Ocean City Bike Week and had a great time. It feels like a little community. They have laundry on site and a general store should you need anything. They were very friendly and the security at the gate always wore a smile. They all seemed to really enjoy being there. Will absolutely stay here again.
Sep 16, 2024 · TaylorI had a great experience in one of the cabins. If only the office staff was more attentive to replying appropriately to voicemails and updating their voicemail greeting, I would give it a 5-star rating.
Feb 05, 2025 · Daddy BiggsMost of the sites are good size. It's a quiet campground on the lake, good fishing.
Apr 24, 2025 · christine reevesWe stayed here for a weekend at the end of June. The campground was big, office, store and guard staff were excellent. The pool was nice as well.A few things I would like to see improvements on when we come back are a new playground for the kids. My kids love playgrounds, especially when camping so they couldn't play on the one that was here, and also maybe potentially hire an event staff / food truck for the weekends for weekend activities. Also I see no reason why tents aren't allowed to setup here, as it is beautiful at night, it's got perfect sites for tent camping.Considering the prices are fairly close to a sun outdoors. This place could jack the prices up a little more to pay for those accommodations, which will eventually bring in a more full campground. There is some landscaping that should be done as well along with maintaining the grass on campsites.Come Friday every site should be freshly cut.If some of these things continue to be overlooked, sun outdoors will be knocking on your door soon with an offer, if they haven't already.Overall the stay was okay and there is plenty to do around the area thankfully.
