J & W Campground Introduce
For those searching for "camping near me" in the Livingston, Louisiana area, J & W Campground, located at 24691 Setton Rd, Livingston, LA 70754, USA, presents itself as a potentially affordable option with access to various outdoor activities. They can be contacted at (225) 294-8961 or +1 225-294-8961 for inquiries. However, recent customer reviews provide a mixed perspective, highlighting both the potential benefits and significant drawbacks of staying at this campground, which should be carefully considered by prospective visitors.
One early review mentioned "down to earth people" and an "endless activity" including fishing, boating, and camping, suggesting a location with a focus on outdoor recreation. The reviewer initially found it to be a "peaceful place" and expressed positive sentiments. This initial impression points to the campground's potential appeal for those seeking outdoor pursuits in a potentially tranquil environment. The mention of fishing and boating implies proximity to suitable water bodies, which could be a significant draw for anglers and boaters looking for "camping near me" with these amenities.
However, this positive initial assessment was sharply contrasted by a subsequent experience from the same reviewer after staying for a couple of days. This later feedback detailed a negative interaction with the owner's son, involving rudeness, yelling, and cursing when the reviewer requested a receipt. This raises serious concerns about the customer service and management practices at the campground. Furthermore, the reviewer reported that the washers and dryers did not work properly, leading to wasted money, and that a repeated request for the receipt several days later resulted in further abusive behavior. This paints a concerning picture of the management's responsiveness and treatment of guests.
Another review offers a longer-term perspective, indicating that the reviewer had lived at J & W Campground "off and on throughout the years" primarily due to its affordability. This suggests that the campground may cater to individuals seeking budget-friendly or even long-term accommodation options. The reviewer noted that the grounds were "decent" years ago and that there was a store on-site selling food, drinks, and miscellaneous items. However, the store is now closed, which could be an inconvenience for campers needing basic supplies.
The long-term resident also mentioned that there was once access to the Tickfaw River from the campground. The Tickfaw River is a significant waterway in the region, known for its recreational opportunities. However, this access has reportedly been closed off due to a lawsuit resulting from an injury. The loss of direct river access from the campground could be a significant disappointment for those hoping to easily enjoy river-based activities like fishing, boating, or swimming directly from their campsite.
An important policy mentioned in the longer-term review is that "Pitbulls are not allowed!" This is a crucial piece of information for pet owners considering staying at J & W Campground. Campers traveling with pit bull breeds will need to make alternative arrangements.
The landlord is described as "fairly laid back," which could be seen as a positive by some seeking a relaxed atmosphere. However, the same reviewer also noted a "drastic" increase in rent over the years. The current rates for campers are reported to be between $650 and $850, with the $650 options being described as in "poor shape." This suggests that while affordability may have been a key feature in the past, the current pricing, especially for the less desirable sites, might not represent the same value.
Considering the environment of Livingston, Louisiana, it is situated in a region with waterways, forests, and a generally humid subtropical climate. Campgrounds in this area might be expected to offer a natural setting with opportunities for outdoor activities related to the local environment. However, the reviews for J & W Campground provide limited information about the specific natural environment of the campground itself, focusing more on the amenities (or lack thereof) and management.
Based on the reviews, the services and features of J & W Campground appear to be somewhat basic and potentially unreliable. While fishing and boating are mentioned as general activities associated with the location, direct access to the Tickfaw River from the campground is reportedly closed. The on-site store is no longer operational. The laundry facilities (washers and dryers) are reported to be malfunctioning. While picnic tables at campsites are not explicitly mentioned, they are a common feature in campgrounds. Full hookups for RVs are also not specifically mentioned in the reviews, so RV travelers would need to inquire about the availability and nature of such hookups.
Promotional information is absent from the provided reviews. There is no mention of special rates, seasonal events, or unique features being advertised to attract new campers. The information available is primarily based on the direct experiences of past and current residents, offering a candid but concerning picture of the campground.
For local users searching for "camping near me" in Livingston, Louisiana, J & W Campground presents a complex picture. While it may offer a potentially affordable base for exploring the area and engaging in fishing and boating (presumably at nearby accessible locations, given the reported closure of direct river access), the negative reviews regarding rude management and malfunctioning facilities are significant red flags. Prospective campers should weigh the potential cost savings against the reported issues with customer service and basic amenities. It would be prudent to contact the campground directly to inquire about the current state of the facilities, policies, and to seek clarification on the issues raised in the reviews before making a decision to stay.
In conclusion, J & W Campground in Livingston, Louisiana, may offer a budget-friendly option for "camping near me" with potential access to outdoor activities like fishing and boating in the surrounding area. However, the available customer reviews raise serious concerns about the campground's management and the functionality of its facilities, particularly the laundry. The reported closure of direct Tickfaw River access and the increase in rental rates for potentially poorly maintained sites are also important factors to consider. Local users should proceed with caution and seek further information before choosing J & W Campground for their camping needs.

J & W Campground Reviews
Down to earth people with a endless activity, fishing boating camping and so on. Seems like a peaceful place. Love it.. After staying a couple of days . The son of the man was very rude and yelled and cursed when I asked for my receipt. Washers and dryers don't work properly and pretty much wasted my money trying to use them. After them taking my money and not giving my receipt when he took it I asked four days later and was cursed at. Not a good place to be after allp
Oct 29, 2024 · Cassie O'NealI've lived here off and on throughout the years only bc of the affordability. When I first moved in years ago the grounds were decent. They had a store to that sold food, drinks and misc items. The store is closed down now. There once was access to the tickfaw River here however from rumors I've heard someone was hurt and they were sued for 300k so they closed it off. Pitbulls are not allowed! The landlord is fairly laid back I guess. They have however went up in rent drastically. It's now 650 to 850 to get a camper here the ones that are 650 are in poor shape!
