Looking for a reliable and enjoyable "camping near me" experience steeped in tradition and surrounded by the natural beauty of New Hampshire? Jigger Johnson Campground, located in Albany, NH 03818, USA, has been a cherished destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts for decades. According to long-time visitors, it offers a blend of a pleasant environment, essential services, and appealing features, making it a strong contender for your next camping trip. While recent reviews acknowledge some changes, the overall sentiment remains positive, highlighting its enduring appeal.
The environment surrounding Jigger Johnson Campground is consistently praised for its natural beauty. Situated in Albany, NH, it is likely nestled within or in close proximity to the White Mountains National Forest, renowned for its stunning landscapes, hiking trails, and the Swift River. One reviewer, who has been visiting since 1994, describes it as a place they have returned to almost every summer, indicating a consistently appealing natural setting that draws people back year after year. The sites are noted to offer a decent amount of privacy, although one long-term visitor mentioned a perceived thinning of trees over the years, leading to more open sites. Despite this observation, the general feeling is one of being immersed in a natural and relatively secluded environment, conducive to a relaxing and enjoyable camping experience. The proximity to the White Mountains suggests opportunities for hiking, exploring scenic drives, and potentially enjoying the Swift River for fishing or other water-related activities.
In terms of services, Jigger Johnson Campground appears to provide essential amenities for a comfortable camping experience. A significant positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the cleanliness of the restrooms with flush toilets. One recent visitor specifically mentioned the ample supply of toilet paper. However, it's important to note a temporary service disruption: as of late July 2024, the running showers were not available due to ongoing work. This is a crucial piece of information for potential visitors who rely on shower facilities. It's advisable to check with the campground directly for updates on the shower situation, especially if your visit is planned for a later date. The campground also seems to have camp hosts, although experiences with them have been generally positive, with one long-term visitor stating they have "never had an issue with camp hosts." Another recent visitor found the host, Nat, to be "very friendly and helpful" upon arrival. The campground also has a clear check-out time of noon. While not a service in the traditional sense, this information is important for planning your departure.
The features of Jigger Johnson Campground contribute to its popularity among local campers. A notable feature is that the site is dog-friendly, making it an attractive option for those who like to travel with their canine companions. The availability of flush toilets is a significant convenience compared to more rustic camping options. The mention of "sites for the most part are kept up with" suggests a level of maintenance that contributes to a pleasant camping environment. The decent amount of privacy offered by the campsites, despite some perceived thinning of trees, is another desirable feature for those seeking a sense of seclusion in nature. The long-standing popularity of the campground, with visitors returning for decades, speaks to its consistent appeal and the quality of the overall camping experience it offers. The quiet hours from 10 pm to 6 am, which were observed by other campers in one reviewer's area, indicate an effort to maintain a peaceful environment during sleeping hours. The positive experiences shared in the reviews, particularly the long-term satisfaction of one visitor and the pleasant recent experience of another who was initially hesitant due to negative feedback, suggest that Jigger Johnson Campground offers a reliable and enjoyable camping experience for many.

Jigger Johnson Campground Reviews
I’ve been coming here since 1994 as a toddler and just about every summer since. Never had an issue with camp hosts. Have never been confronted or told to put out a fire past a certain time. Have never been confronted about payment either. Neighbors are usually respectful and I personally have never had an issue. The bathrooms are clean with running water and the sites for the most part are kept up with as well. The sites do have a decent amount of privacy although I do feel as the years have gone on there’s been a good amount of thinning of the trees between sites and they have become more open which is disappointing but do understand that sometimes it has to be done. Overall I enjoy this campground and will continue to keep coming back with family. We have a trip planned for later this month and we are all very excited to come back!
Aug 01, 2024 · APWe stayed here before when Barbara was the host and loved it. We were almost deterred to not come back during our recent trip because of the recent poor reviews, but figured we’d see for ourselves. We had a very pleasant time! No issues with rules being super strictly enforced as mentioned in some reviews. Quiet hours from 10pm to 6am which people followed at least in our area. We didn’t see the host besides when we had arrived at the campsite our first day, and Nat was very friendly and helpful. The restrooms (with flush toilets) were clean and had a lot of toilet paper in each stall, just bring your own soap to wash your hands. No running showers at the moment (late July 2024) due to the showers being worked on.The site is dog-friendly, and we dogsat for a friend.Check out is at noon.Would happily come back.
Jul 30, 2024 · Alyssa T.Stayed for an overnight trip. Site #47. Drive in, pick an open camp spot and pay for the nights by the front board. Clean area, some more open and several with in walking distance of the river. Picnic table with fire ring. Bath rooms were clean, didn’t use the showers but they do offer them. Three host locations for questions. Trails leading off in different directions. Some sites have more privacy. The inside locations had more of the trees cut down directly around them. No noise problems at night or in the morning. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a campground.
Jul 03, 2018 · Matthew DThis is a very nice and convienantly located campground. Many hiking trails nearby and attractions. Campground is pretty much right in the middle of the Kangamangus hwy, next to Bear Notch Rd. Campground has nice different size sites, some wooded, some open and airy. The bathrooms were really kept clean, and they have coin operated hot showers. Hosts were friendly and enforced evening quiet hours. There is a short trail that leads to the river with a nice beach. Also there's a trail that leads to the Passaconway historical house/site. The nearest stores and gas stations are a bit aways, Conway about a 20 min drive on the east end of the Kanc or Lincoln a 30 min drive on the west end. With that being said, make sure your stocked up on ice, food, gas and camping items as the campground only has firewood for sale. This is a nice family or hikers campground. Beautiful place to take in all that the Kangamangus has to offer!
Sep 28, 2020 · niKols VidenI loved this campground! We drove in, found a spot, put deposited money in an envelope at the main entrance, and set up camp. There were plenty of clean restrooms, and I loved that the campground was a short walk away from the river, and so close to so many other hikes and scenic areas. We took a drive at night to view the Milky Way, and we only had to drive 15min west on rt 112 to find a perfect spot. Would definitely camp here again.
