Passaconaway Campground Introduce
Are you on the lookout for a camping spot in your local area that offers easy access to nature and a more rustic camping experience? Passaconaway Campground, located in Albany, NH, might be just what you're searching for. Situated at coordinates 43.996159589408826, -71.36937064447037, this campground provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the White Mountains region. For inquiries, you can contact them at (603) 447-5448 or +1 603-447-5448.
The environment at Passaconaway Campground is a significant draw for many campers. Its prime location next to the Swift River offers incredibly easy access for swimming, cooling off on warm days, and simply enjoying the soothing sounds of flowing water. Several campsites are just a short walk from the riverbank, allowing for spontaneous dips and riverside relaxation. The campground is also conveniently located close to Conway and the numerous hiking trails within the White Mountains National Forest, making it an ideal base for outdoor adventures and exploring the scenic landscapes of the region. The sites themselves are described as spacious and set far enough apart to provide a good degree of privacy, enhancing the feeling of being immersed in nature.
In terms of services and features, Passaconaway Campground leans towards a more primitive camping experience. It's important to note that recent reviews indicate some changes and a decline in upkeep compared to previous years. One significant point is the reported lack of potable water on-site. Campers have mentioned that if you require drinking water, you may need to travel to the Jigger Johnson Campground. This is a crucial consideration for planning your trip and ensuring you have an adequate water supply. Additionally, the campground offers no cell service, which can be a pro for those seeking a digital detox but a con for those needing to stay connected. The facilities include outhouse pit toilets, and there are no showers available at this location. Firewood is often available for purchase from the camp host.
A notable feature of Passaconaway Campground is that reservations are generally not required, offering a degree of flexibility for those who prefer spontaneous camping trips. However, this also means that availability can be on a first-come, first-served basis, especially during peak season. Despite the limited amenities, the campground continues to charge a nightly camping fee. While some past visitors have lauded the helpfulness of the camp host, recent feedback suggests potential inconsistencies in site maintenance, with one reviewer noting an uncleaned firepit upon arrival. It's advisable to be prepared for a more rustic environment and to bring all necessary supplies, including water purification methods if relying on the river for non-potable water needs.
Considering the recent feedback, it's essential for local users searching for "camping near me" to weigh the pros and cons of Passaconaway Campground. The easy river access and proximity to hiking trails remain significant advantages for outdoor enthusiasts. The spacious and private campsites also contribute to a more secluded and natural camping feel. However, the reported lack of potable water, the absence of showers and flush toilets, and the potential for inconsistent site upkeep are crucial factors to consider. If you are comfortable with a more primitive camping setup and prioritize river access and hiking opportunities over modern amenities, Passaconaway Campground might still be a viable option. However, if potable water and more developed facilities are a priority, exploring alternative campgrounds in the area, such as the Jigger Johnson Campground mentioned in a review, might be a better fit.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. Given the nature of this more rustic, no-reservation-needed campground, it is less likely to offer elaborate deals or packages. The primary draw is its natural setting and accessibility to outdoor activities. For the most up-to-date information on any potential changes in services or fees, or if there are any temporary advisories, it would be best to contact the campground directly at the provided phone number before planning your visit. This will help you ensure that the campground meets your current needs and expectations for a "camping near me" experience.
In conclusion, Passaconaway Campground offers a unique camping experience centered around its location next to the Swift River and its proximity to the natural attractions of the White Mountains. While it boasts spacious and private sites and easy access to outdoor activities, potential visitors should be aware of the limited amenities, particularly the reported lack of potable water and the primitive toilet facilities. For local users seeking a more rugged and nature-focused camping trip without the need for reservations, Passaconaway Campground provides an option to consider. However, it is recommended to be well-prepared for a more self-sufficient camping experience and to perhaps inquire about the current status of amenities before your visit to ensure it aligns with your preferences for "camping near me."

Passaconaway Campground Reviews
Pros: next to Swift River w/ easy access to enjoy and cool off, no reservation needed, close to Conway and Nat’l Park trails.Cons: not kept up, map doesnt match site there’s been changes, firepit was a hot mess when we arrived at 4pm (see photo) camp host should of cleaned it up, NO POTABLE WATER (What?), no cell service and still charging camp fee of $27 per night. If you need water you have to drive to Jigger Johnson Campground…. Why not just stay there? Unfortunately this camp site has gone downhill. Our last visit in June 2020 was a good time. Tip: try Jigger Johnson first
Aug 09, 2024 · SandraI love camping here. I was on site 3 and 15. Loved 15. 30 second walk to the Swift from site 15. Water was about 70 degrees. Cooler up here on hot summer days. Host Red is great. No noise after 10pm. Sites are spacious and set far enough apart for privacy. Wood available from Red. Cold, pure water available at numerous spigots. No showers. No bathrooms...just outhouse pit toilet.
Aug 31, 2021 · Anthony PagliusoThis is a great "roughing it" campground. Inexpensive (get there early to get a good site in-season), no cell service, no electricity. There are water spouts for filling jugs etc. Bathrooms are not running water ones, but if you have a pass here you can use the nice ones at Jigger Johnson next door. The hosts here were excellent and very friendly. We'll be coming back next summer! (Photos are from a little river you can access via a short trail thru the woods.)
Aug 16, 2021 · Paul SullivanI have been camping in NH and at Passaconway Campground for 30+ years, and this year was atrocious. The campground is not maintained like it has been in past years. There is no host, so issues could not be reported or managed, the road has washout sections with potholes, the campsites are not racked or cleaned, and the bathrooms were poorly maintained and in need of repair. In addition, the water is not working, which is an essential item that we do not pack as it was available at the campground. Vista has been contracted by the USDA Forest Services, and I would not hire that group to manage an ant colony. This sadly may be my last year in NH.
Aug 05, 2024 · Star Struck OBXBeen camping here for 30 years and this year was disappointing. No host, so no one to clean out firepits or rake out the sites. Bathrooms were a little cleaner then past years but ran out of toliet paper and wasn't restocked until late Saturday afternoon after someone had been there in the morning to clean.NO water at all!!! Sign says due to intermittent sun there may be no water and they are working on it. They have been "working" on it all Summer!!! The solar panels have not been working for years and past hosts would need to start up a generator which is on site to get water to work. No host so noone to run generator. Vista recreation is letting this campground go and get run down which is a shame. What is worse they still charge $27 a nite for what??? No host,.no firewood and no water!!!If your not going to keep up the campground and have running water which you are NOT working on fixing then you must reduce your fees!!!
