Katahdin Shadows Campground Introduce
For local users in Maine and surrounding areas seeking "camping near me," Katahdin Shadows Campground, located at 118 Katahdin Shadows, Medway, ME 04460, USA, offers a camping experience with a focus on organized activities and a social atmosphere. Situated in the region near the majestic Katahdin, the campground provides a base for exploring the natural beauty of northern Maine, although direct access to hiking trails from the campground itself appears to be limited based on customer feedback.
The environment surrounding Katahdin Shadows Campground is likely characterized by the woodlands and natural landscapes typical of the Katahdin region. While specific details about the campground's immediate terrain are not provided, the area is known for its proximity to Baxter State Park and the Appalachian Trail, suggesting a setting within a broader landscape of forests, lakes, and mountains. However, a customer review indicates that accessing "decent trails" requires traveling via off-road logging roads, implying that hiking opportunities may not be directly adjacent to the campground. This suggests that while the natural beauty of Maine is accessible, it might necessitate some travel from the campsite.
Katahdin Shadows Campground offers various services to cater to its guests. The mention of cabin availability suggests that lodging options beyond traditional tent sites exist. One customer's experience of a double booking for a cabin, despite having paid in full and replanning their weekend, raises concerns about the campground's organization and professionalism in managing reservations. However, the offer of a free night on Saturday to compensate for the error indicates an attempt to rectify the situation, albeit after significant inconvenience to the customer. It is important for prospective campers to confirm their reservations and understand the campground's booking policies.
A key feature of Katahdin Shadows Campground, as highlighted in a customer review, is its focus on scheduled activities and a busy, social atmosphere. This suggests that the campground aims to provide more than just a place to sleep; it fosters a community environment with planned events for campers to participate in. This could be appealing to families and those who enjoy a more structured and interactive camping experience. The review also mentions that the people at the campground are considered "good," indicating a potentially friendly and welcoming staff, despite the organizational issues reported by another customer.
However, it is crucial for potential visitors, particularly those primarily interested in hiking, to note the feedback regarding trail access. The review explicitly states that "if you like hiking this is not the campground" and that reaching good trails involves traveling on off-road logging roads. This is a significant point for local users searching for "camping near me" with the primary intention of hiking in the Katahdin region. While the park itself (presumably Baxter State Park) is acknowledged as "nice" and "busy," the implication is that accessing it or other notable trails requires travel from Katahdin Shadows Campground.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information provided for Katahdin Shadows Campground. Local users interested in camping here are encouraged to contact them directly via phone at (207) 746-9349 or mobile phone at +1 207-746-9349 to inquire about availability, pricing, and any ongoing specials or packages. Given the mixed feedback regarding organization, it would be prudent to confirm all booking details and understand the campground's policies before making a reservation.
In conclusion, Katahdin Shadows Campground in Medway, Maine, offers a camping experience that emphasizes organized activities and a social environment. While it is situated in the vicinity of the Katahdin region's natural beauty, direct access to hiking trails appears to be limited, requiring travel via logging roads. Customer feedback presents a mixed view, with positive comments about the staff and the availability of scheduled activities contrasted by concerns regarding reservation management and professionalism. Local users searching for "camping near me" should weigh these factors based on their priorities, whether they value a structured campground experience with activities or prioritize immediate access to hiking trails. Direct communication with the campground is recommended to obtain the most current information and clarify any concerns before planning a stay.

Katahdin Shadows Campground Reviews
We were placed on a cancellation list and received a call that a cabin was available, my family and I were very excited and replanned our whole weekend for this trip. My family travels from 2 hours both ways and at 4 in the AFTERNOON we received a call that our cabin was “mistakenly” double booked. The reason they provided made absolutely no sense to why they would only be calling us about this at 4 in the afternoon. They offered us Saturday night free but if it was booked why would the people only be staying in a 10 person cabin for one night? Needless to say they will not be getting our business again. We paid in full, very unprofessional and unorganized!
Sep 06, 2024 · Jazmine AyotteIf you like hiking this is not the campground. To get to decent trails is all off road logging roads. The park is nice, busy, and they are good people here with lots of schedules activities.
Jul 29, 2024 · Carmen MartucciCampground gets a 5/5! Showers cost my review some stars.I stayed over the weekend with some friends in a camper. The area was crowded and busy this weekend, but it was quiet, clean, and enjoyable. The kids had fun in the pool several times a day while camping and we were tucked into the trees so it stayed as cool and shady as possible on a hot weekend. My only complaint goes to the showers. EVERY TIME someone adjusted a shower, flushed a toilet, or used a sink (in either bathroom) the water temperature would change from SCALDING to FREEZING in seconds. I could not get a consistent temperature, even when I was the only one in the women's bathroom. The showers can't even get 1/5 stars. Absolutely awful water temperature regulation. However, the rest of the campground was fun and clean. I would return if I did NOT have to use those showers again or once everyone has gone to sleep.
Aug 09, 2022 · Kille BransonI have camped here many times. I have only stayed in the cabins, so I have no info on rv or tent sites. I have always had a positive experience here. The people at the desk have always been pleasant. The pool is clean. The bathroom is clean most of the time. The cabins that I have stayed in are well stocked with necessities. The outside of the sites were always clean. My only complaints are that the cabins are not cleaned well enough (although not dirty overall). I have always had to sweep the floor when I first arrive because there is always dirt and dog hair on the floor and downstairs beds (and I'm allergic to dogs). The beds are very old and uncomfortable as well. I would actually stay for longer periods if I didn't wake up with a very sore back every time. Great place to stay!
Jun 22, 2022 · Sarah36$/night for a tent spot with no electricity, no water and no real washroom. Add to that the fact that it's not well kept. The only good thing here is the wifi.
