Lake DuBay Shores Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Mosinee, Wisconsin area, and those seeking "camping near me" with proximity to Wausau, Lake DuBay Shores Campground, located at 203040 Dubay Dr, Mosinee, WI 54455, USA, presents a geographically convenient option. Situated near the shores of Lake DuBay, the campground seemingly offers the appeal of a lakeside setting. However, recent reviews from actual campers provide important insights into the current condition and amenities of the campground, which potential local users should carefully consider before making a reservation.
One of the primary advantages mentioned in the reviews is the campground's "nice location for being closer to Wausau." This suggests that for those seeking a camping experience within a reasonable driving distance of Wausau and its surrounding areas, Lake DuBay Shores Campground offers a geographically favorable spot. This could be particularly appealing for local residents looking for a quick weekend getaway without traveling too far from home.
However, the positive aspect of the location is significantly overshadowed by concerns raised regarding the cleanliness and state of repair of the campground facilities. Multiple reviewers have expressed dissatisfaction with the condition of the bathrooms. One camper noted that the "bathrooms, by campsites, were not clean" and lacked essential amenities such as a mirror. Furthermore, the shower operation at these locations was described as requiring "you have to pull a chain to get water to come out," making it "extremely difficult to just wash." This suggests a potentially inconvenient and uncomfortable experience for campers relying on these facilities.
While one reviewer mentioned that the "bathrooms up by the main office were a bit better" and did at least have a mirror, they also reported a significant issue with the shower water temperature, stating that it "was very hot, you can’t control the water temp." This lack of control over water temperature can lead to an uncomfortable and potentially unsafe showering experience. For campers, especially those in tents or pop-ups who rely on campground facilities for hygiene, these issues with the bathrooms are significant drawbacks.
Another recent review paints an even more concerning picture of the campground's overall condition, stating that "This place is in Disrepair." The reviewer elaborates by noting that "The bathrooms are dirty, and everything is falling apart." This suggests a general lack of maintenance and upkeep throughout the campground, which could detract significantly from the camping experience. Such a state of disrepair can impact not only the aesthetic appeal of the campground but also the functionality and safety of its facilities.
Further concerns were raised regarding the upkeep of the campsites themselves, with the reviewer stating that "Sites are not mowed." Overgrown campsites can be unappealing and may even pose practical issues for setting up camping equipment. Additionally, a reviewer noted that the "game room is now a storage room of old arcade games and garbage," indicating that a potentially advertised amenity is no longer functional or accessible for guest use. This suggests a potential discrepancy between what might be expected or advertised and the current reality of the campground's offerings.
The location near Lake DuBay might lead one to expect convenient access to the water. However, a reviewer pointed out that the "Dock was not on the river," which is somewhat confusing as Lake DuBay is a significant body of water. This comment might imply that the dock was not easily accessible or not located in a usable part of the lake for swimming or boating. The same reviewer also noted that "there was hardly anyone staying there," which could be indicative of the overall condition and reputation of the campground.
Despite the numerous negative comments regarding the facilities and maintenance, one positive aspect mentioned was that the "Store clerk was friendly." While friendly staff is always appreciated, it is unlikely to compensate for significant issues with the campground's infrastructure and cleanliness. The same reviewer also raised concerns about pricing, stating that they were charged "$5 a head to visit for 2 hours" for three family members and concluded that "For what we got was not worth the price." This suggests that the perceived value of the experience at Lake DuBay Shores Campground may not align with the cost, especially considering the reported disrepair and lack of cleanliness.
Given the consistent negative feedback regarding the cleanliness of the bathrooms, the state of disrepair of the facilities, the lack of maintenance on the campsites, and the non-functional game room, local users searching for "camping near me" should approach Lake DuBay Shores Campground with caution. While its location near Wausau might be convenient for some, the reported issues could significantly detract from a pleasant camping experience. Potential visitors who rely on clean and functional restroom facilities, well-maintained campsites, and advertised amenities should carefully weigh these concerns.
Currently, there is no indication of any promotional information or efforts to address the issues raised in the reviews. Local users considering this campground may want to contact them directly at (715) 457-2484 or via their mobile number at +1 715-457-2484 to inquire about the current state of the facilities, any recent improvements, and their pricing structure. It would be prudent to ask specific questions about the cleanliness of the bathrooms, the functionality of the showers, the condition of the campsites, and the availability of any advertised amenities before making a reservation.
In conclusion, while Lake DuBay Shores Campground benefits from a location relatively close to Wausau, recent feedback from campers raises significant concerns about the cleanliness, maintenance, and overall condition of the campground. Local users searching for "camping near me" in this area should be aware of these potential drawbacks and consider contacting the campground directly to obtain the most current information and assess whether it meets their expectations for a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. The negative reviews highlight the importance of looking beyond just the location and considering the quality and upkeep of the facilities when choosing a campground.

Lake DuBay Shores Campground Reviews
This campground had a nice location for being closer to Wausau. Other than that I can’t give it to high of a rating. The bathrooms, by campsites, were not clean, there wasn’t a mirror in the bathroom, and for the showers you have to pull a chain to get water to come out. This makes it extremely difficult to just wash…The bathrooms up by the main office were a bit better but when I took a shower the water was very hot, you can’t control the water temp, but that bathroom did at least have a mirror. We camp in a pop-up so I rely on the bathrooms to get ready.
Jul 19, 2024 · Jessica GauwitzStayed June 2024. This place is in Disrepair. The bathrooms are dirty, and everything is falling apart. Sites are not mowed, and the game room is now a storage room of old arcade games and garbage. Dock was not on the river, and there was hardly anyone staying there. Store clerk was friendly, but charged my 3 family members $5 a head to visit for 2 hours. For what we got was not worth the price.
Jul 14, 2024 · Lora MeyerThe campground is very underkept and the owners would not stop driving by and start staring at us. They mow the lawn but they don't trim the grass. The playground is very rundown. They haven't updated anything in a while. Owners stare and spy on you. We had booked at big site because we have a big camper and we got our site moved so we barely have enough room for our camper and we can't even park our truck on the site so we parked it by the little train station that nobody goes on and we got yelled at for that so then the owners told us to park the truck in a site and then yelled at us again so I recommend just paying a little extra money to go to the other campgrounds around weston.
Jul 15, 2024 · Colin WillisVERY run down campground! Please read all the reviews, as of June 2024, all the bad opinions and reviews still exist. We talked to one of the seasonals still there, as a LOT have left because of the conditions, and he said 2 sons have taken over the campground, and do nothing, and I mean NOTHING. The grounds are a mess with junk all over, leaves in piles, uncut grass, sticks all over, etc. The advertised beach, boat docking, wifi, dog run, etc., do not exist, and the price is outrageous for electric and water. Back in the day when the parents ran the business, it looks like it would have been a very nice place, but no more, and that's so sad, because the potential is there for a wonderful campground.
Jun 05, 2024 · Karen BourcierHorrible place to stay, please please read all the reviews before staying here, look at the date posted of the review too. Bathrooms were not cleaned and no soap to wash your hands. I felt dirty using the bathrooms. The buildings have decayed so much that they need to be shut down. I would not bring my wife or daughter here either, for their safety alone. The one person working there (John) is a disgruntle person to the point of pulling in front of you to stop your vehicle and direct you to pay at the office before you even enter the campgrounds. Even if you’re there to drop off a picnic table or a item needed for a friend. I had no plans of staying there for any amount of time. He also has a drinking problem and likes to watch people. The docks are not safe, just walk down the broken stair case to the floats. Steps are broken or missing, very slippery when they are not treated with a sandpaper no slip steps. Any advertisement shown on the web pages, the campgrounds wed site or the 2023 campground directory “Wisconsin”, is a false notification of what they offer. WI-FI is non existent in the campground unless you have a booster but then you can’t get that to work. The grounds are not cleaned after storms or during Spring or Fall clean up. There is no parades for kids or games. The playground has weeds growing all over the sand and has sticks laying on the ground. This is at no fault of the campground, but the fishing is horrible, the pictures posted are very old. At one time, the fishing was excellent but not now so don’t plan on a fishing week or weekend, and stay there on top of it as it is a waste of money. Lastly the seasonal campers are held to a different standard than that of a weekend or week stay patronage. People are leaving there for a reason, ask questions, and be aware of this campground.
