Lake Snowden Campground Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the vicinity of Albany, Ohio, Lake Snowden Campground, located at 5900 US-50, presents itself as a destination with a variety of attractions, including a lake, a waterpark, and camping facilities. Unlike a state park, Lake Snowden is open to the public, and while the campground itself may be accessible, the waterpark operates with an admission fee, requiring visitors to check their website for current hours and prices. This distinction is important for those specifically seeking state park campgrounds versus privately or locally operated ones within the "camping near me" category.
According to one reviewer, Lake Snowden boasts a "nice, well maintained lake, waterpark, and campground." This suggests that the potential for a pleasant lakeside and recreational experience exists. The same review also mentions the presence of playground equipment, a basketball court, shelter houses, restrooms, and trails. These amenities could enhance the stay for families and individuals looking for diverse activities beyond just camping. However, the reviewer also raises a crucial point about the accessibility of these amenities, noting uncertainty as to whether they are exclusively for campground guests or open to all public visitors. This lack of clarity underscores the importance of contacting the campground directly or checking their website for specific information relevant to campers searching for "camping near me" with particular amenity preferences.
In stark contrast to the positive aspects mentioned in the first review, a second, more recent review paints a concerning picture of the current state of Lake Snowden Campground. This reviewer, who had previously enjoyed a stay just three years prior, expresses significant disappointment with the changes they observed. Their experience highlights several critical issues that potential local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of.
Upon arrival for a four-night reservation, this reviewer found the campground office closed with no staff available, except for two individuals at the lake's pay swimming area. This lack of on-site staff and the difficulty in contacting someone regarding their campsite is a significant concern for customer service and the overall camping experience. For those relying on assistance upon arrival at their "camping near me" destination, this report suggests potential challenges.
The condition of the reserved campsite itself was also problematic. The reviewer reported having "no table, no fire ring and no camper pad area." These are typically considered essential elements of a standard campsite, and their absence significantly detracts from the camping experience. Furthermore, the water source was located across the street, and the reviewer was advised against running a water hose across the road to fill their tank, posing an inconvenience for accessing a basic necessity. The fact that a scheduled meeting with staff at the campsite at 3 pm never occurred further emphasizes the apparent lack of organization and communication.
Perhaps the most alarming aspect of the second review concerns the sanitation and maintenance of the campground facilities. The shower house was described as "unsanitary, reeking of mold, no toilet paper." This raises serious health and hygiene concerns for anyone considering staying at Lake Snowden Campground. Additionally, the reviewer noted that "all bathrooms throughout the entire park has been shut down and ports jons set in front of or beside." These portable restrooms were reportedly not cleaned for some time and in need of servicing, indicating a widespread issue with restroom facilities across the entire park, not just the campground. For local users searching for "camping near me" with clean and functional restrooms, this feedback is a major red flag.
The reviewer concludes that Lake Snowden Campground "could be an absolute wonderful place if it had the proper staff and updated facilities." They emphasize the need for staff who are knowledgeable and present, a consistently staffed office with responsive communication, and updated facilities that are properly maintained. The stark contrast between their positive experience three years prior and their recent disappointment suggests a significant decline in the campground's management and upkeep.
Given these contrasting reviews, local users considering Lake Snowden Campground for their "camping near me" getaway are strongly advised to exercise caution and seek up-to-date information. The presence of a lake, waterpark, playground, and other recreational amenities still holds potential appeal. However, the serious concerns raised about staffing, campsite conditions, and the unsanitary state of the restroom facilities cannot be ignored.
Prospective campers should contact Lake Snowden Campground directly using the provided phone numbers, (740) 698-6373 or mobile +1 740-698-6373, to inquire about the current status of the facilities, staffing levels, and any recent improvements or ongoing issues. It would be prudent to ask specific questions about campsite amenities (tables, fire rings, camper pads), water access, and the condition and availability of restrooms and showers. Checking the campground's website for the most recent information and potentially looking for more recent reviews on other platforms might also provide a more current perspective.
In conclusion, Lake Snowden Campground offers the allure of a lake and waterpark setting for those searching for "camping near me" near Albany, OH. While it boasts a range of potential amenities, recent customer feedback reveals significant concerns regarding staffing, campsite conditions, and the cleanliness of restroom facilities. Local users should weigh these factors carefully and conduct thorough due diligence by contacting the campground directly for the most current information before making a reservation. The potential for a wonderful experience appears to be present, but addressing the reported issues is crucial for Lake Snowden Campground to regain the positive reputation it may have held in the past.

Nice, well maintained lake, waterpark, and campground. This isn't a state park. It is open to the public but the waterpark has an admission fee.Check the website for hours and prices. It also has playground equipment, basketball court, shelter houses, restrooms and trails.I'm not sure if these amenities are for those staying at the campground only or not. Again call ahead or check out the website.
Aug 05, 2022 · RJDReserved campsite for 4 nights. Arrived to check in and office was closed. No staff available except 2 persons at the lake pay swimming area. Went there to ask how we could contact someone about our camp area. We had no table, no fire ring and no camper pad area. Water was across the street and we were advised we could not run water hose across the road to fill up tank. Someone was supposed to meet us at our site at 3pm, no one showed up. We had to find our own table and fire ring. Also the shower house is unsanitary, reeking of mold, no toilet paper. All bathrooms throughout the entire park has been shut down and ports jons set in front of or beside. Those have not been cleaned for some time and are in need of servicing. This campground could be an absolute wonderful place if it had the proper staff and updated facilities. There needs to be staff that knows what is going on. Office needs to be staffed and messages need to be returned if there isn’t anyone in office during office hours.Very disappointed in what has changed since our first stay just 3 short years ago! We will not be back!
Jun 25, 2023 · Wanda ChildersWe stayed 2 weeks, and for us, the campground is very quiet, not very crowded, but terribly mismanaged and way understaffed. The bathhouse (women's side) sometimes has toilet paper, never any hand soap and occasionally paper towels. The showers are disgusting! I'm not sure when the last time they were cleaned. The RV spots were large enough, but far from level.
