Situated in the vicinity of the renowned Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park, this campground provides a convenient and comfortable base for exploring the caverns and the surrounding landscape. The environment of Lewis & Clark Caverns Campground is characterized by its natural setting in the Montana landscape. While specific details about the immediate surroundings (such as the type of trees or proximity to water features within the campground itself) are not extensively described in the reviews, the mention of nearby hiking trails and the easy drive to the caverns suggest a location immersed in the natural beauty of the region. The absence of road noise, as noted by one reviewer, further contributes to a peaceful and relaxing camping environment, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the sounds of nature.
The campground offers a range of services and amenities to cater to different camping preferences. For restroom facilities, the campground features a central bathroom area that is described as "nice" and equipped with coin-operated showers and coin exchange machines. This provides a more comfortable option for those preferring showers. In addition to this central facility, there are also outhouses located around the periphery of the campground, offering more basic but still functional options. The cleanliness of the toilets, in general, is positively highlighted by a reviewer who found them "clean and tidy." Each campsite is also equipped with a trashcan, promoting cleanliness and convenience for campers. For RV travelers, the presence of an RV dump and fill spot is a significant advantage, providing essential services for maintaining their vehicles during their stay.
Lewis & Clark Caverns Campground boasts several features that enhance the overall camping experience. One notable feature is the amphitheater located within the park, which hosts evening shows. One reviewer described this as a "pleasant treat to the evening," suggesting that these presentations add an element of entertainment and engagement to the camping experience, likely providing insights into the park's natural or historical significance. The presence of a playground in the center of the campground is also mentioned. While one reviewer felt it was somewhat out of place, they also acknowledged that it was "nice," indicating it could be a valuable amenity for families with children. The campground also benefits from its proximity to hiking trails. A significant feature for prospective campers is the availability of different types of campsites. The reviews indicate that the campground accommodates both tent and RV camping. Tent sites are generally offered on a first-come, first-served basis unless booked ahead, suggesting that reservations are possible and recommended, especially during peak seasons, to guarantee a spot. The positive experience of a reviewer who "got lucky" with a tent site implies that securing a site upon arrival might be possible but carries some risk of unavailability. Lewis & Clark Caverns Campground Reviews
The central bathrooms are nice, with coin operated showers, and coins exchange machines. the bathrooms ones around the periphery are just outhouses. The playground in the center felt out of place though it was nice..sort of felt like a liminal place.Overall the camp ground was great, the amphitheatre showing, hosted by the park, in the evening was a pleasant treat to the evening. Each site had a trashcan. There was an RV dump and fill spot. There are few hiking trails around the area. The one we went on had some blocked off mine enterances and historical plaques that overall, enhanced our cavern tour the next day.
Oct 03, 2024 · Josh JosephGreat spot to camp either in a tent or RV.Tent sites are first in first serve unless you book ahead and we got lucky 😉Toilets are clean and tidy and the ground had a great vibe.Easy drive in the morning up to the caverns which was worth a look too.We didn't hear any road noise at all.
Jul 06, 2024 · Rosco AndrewNice campground, friendly host. It’s electric only at the RV sites but there’s potable water at convenient locations and at the dump site. The sites can accommodate large rigs, vans, tents, pop-ups and towables. There’s shaded spots and open, your choice. There’s reservable and first come, first serve spots as well. The sites are relatively level, quiet and clean. I’d stay here again if coming back this way just to avoid potential noise from staying near I-90.
Jul 09, 2024 · Vincent SheridanThis was a very nice campground with running water, showers, and flushing toilets. We stayed in the cabins, they were nice but the only problems were the door screen had some holes in it which let's bugs in if that bothers you and there was no ladder to get up to the top bunk of the bunk bed, that might also be an issue for some. The key also didn't work, but overall, the cabin was very nice and came with a fan. The campsites were a good space away from each other and well kept. The showers and toilets were fairly clean. And every night, while walking to the bathroom, we saw a deer. Park rangers were very friendly, and overall, I would stay here again.
Aug 18, 2023 · Frog N FriendsVery quiet and serene location. We were in the spot E2 which was nicely shaded and pretty much level. The showers are really terrific at the comfort station. You get six minutes for three dollars. They have a coin machine. For change There’s a sink for dishwashing that has hot water. The camp host, Holly was really helpful and welcoming.
