Branham Lakes Campground and Picnic Area Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Sheridan, Montana area, seeking a mountain getaway with lake access and recreational opportunities? Branham Lakes Campground and Picnic Area, located near Sheridan, MT 59749, USA, offers a potentially appealing destination. You can reach them by phone at (406) 842-5432 or +1 406-842-5432 for inquiries and to gather more specific information. Based on online reviews, this location provides a refreshing environment, opportunities for hiking and water activities, and is popular among locals.
When considering "camping near me," the environment and natural features are often key factors. Branham Lakes Campground and Picnic Area appears to be situated in a scenic mountainous region, offering a welcome escape from summer heat. One reviewer noted it as a "nice place to keep cool in the Summer," suggesting a higher elevation or proximity to water that provides a cooler climate. The presence of a "mountain" nearby also indicates potential for scenic views and a different type of landscape compared to flatter areas.
For those who enjoy hiking as part of their "camping near me" experience, Branham Lakes offers a "good, short, steep hike up the mountain" right at the campground. This provides an opportunity for physical activity and panoramic views of the surrounding area without requiring extensive travel from the campsite. The description of the hike as "short" and "steep" suggests it's a moderately challenging trail that can be completed relatively quickly, making it accessible for a range of fitness levels.
Water is a significant feature of this location, as indicated by the name "Branham Lakes." One reviewer mentioned "lovely lakes to swim/paddle in," highlighting the recreational opportunities associated with these bodies of water. Lake access for swimming and paddling can greatly enhance a camping trip, providing a way to cool off, enjoy water sports, and appreciate the natural beauty of the area. The presence of a "water spigot" at the campground is also a practical amenity, likely providing a source of potable water for campers, although it's always wise to confirm the potability and bring a water filter or purification method as a precaution.
The access to Branham Lakes Campground and Picnic Area seems to be an important consideration for potential visitors. One reviewer described the drive as "the most beautiful place to drive" but then jokingly cautioned, "Don't go." This playful warning is followed by practical advice regarding the road conditions. The reviewer states, "Good dirt road, but not suitable for a sedan or camper after a certain point. Subaru and CRV are perfectly fine. All wheel drive recommended." This is crucial information for anyone planning to visit, especially those with lower-clearance vehicles or larger campers. The recommendation of all-wheel drive suggests that the road might become more challenging or less maintained beyond a certain point, requiring a vehicle with better traction and ground clearance.
Despite the access considerations, the area offers "lovely camping and dispersed spots along the way." This implies that there might be designated campsites within the campground itself, as well as more remote, dispersed camping opportunities along the road leading to or around the lakes. Dispersed camping can offer a more secluded and wilderness-oriented experience for those who are equipped for it. The mention of "lots of places to hike" further reinforces the area's appeal for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy exploring on foot.
The fact that "lots of locals go here" suggests that Branham Lakes Campground and Picnic Area is a well-regarded and popular destination within the community. Local popularity often indicates a place of natural beauty and recreational value. The reviewer's repeated, albeit tongue-in-cheek, advice of "Like I said. DON'T GO. 😉" likely stems from a desire to keep this beloved spot less crowded.
Considering the information available, Branham Lakes Campground and Picnic Area offers a natural environment with lakes for swimming and paddling, hiking opportunities on a nearby mountain, and a cooler summer climate. It's accessible via a dirt road that is generally good but may require all-wheel drive for certain sections or for those with sedans or campers. The presence of a water spigot is a practical amenity. The area is popular with locals, suggesting its quality and appeal. While there is no specific promotional information, the natural attractions and the fact that it's a known spot likely draw visitors.
For those searching for "camping near me" who are equipped with suitable vehicles and appreciate a mountain and lake environment with hiking and water activities, Branham Lakes Campground and Picnic Area could be an excellent choice. The potential for weekend traffic, as mentioned by one reviewer ("Lots of traffic on the weekend"), is something to consider for those seeking a more secluded experience. Planning a visit during the week might offer a quieter atmosphere. It would be advisable to call the provided phone number to inquire about current road conditions, specific campsite details, water availability, and any regulations regarding camping and campfires to ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip to this lovely Montana destination.

Nice place to keep cool in the Summer. Good, short, steep hike up the mountain while you're there. There is a water spigot. Lots of traffic on the weekend.

Nov 27, 2021 · Sadie EichnerLovely campground, and unique - It is rare to be able to drive to a high mountain lake in Montana! The Mill Creek Road was not as bad as expected, only a couple really rocky spots. My low clearance passenger car made it fine. Get there early on the weekend, as there are only a handful of sites.

Aug 10, 2019 · Alivia BeairdTake the little extra hike to the falls. Wildflowers were abundant as were the black flies and mosquitoes! Prepare with armor!
