Valley Garden Campground Introduce
Looking for a fantastic "camping near me" experience in the heart of Montana? Valley Garden Campground, located in Ennis, MT 59729, USA, might just be the "great sleeper campground" you've been searching for. Situated right on the water, this small and serene campground offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature along the banks of the renowned Madison River. Based on enthusiastic customer reviews, Valley Garden Campground provides a tranquil setting, excellent river access, frequent wildlife sightings, and a more intimate camping experience due to its limited number of sites.
One of the most appealing aspects of Valley Garden Campground, as highlighted by multiple reviewers, is its location directly "on the water," specifically the Madison River. The Madison River is famous for its exceptional fly fishing opportunities, attracting anglers from around the world. Camping right on its banks provides unparalleled access for fishing enthusiasts, allowing for early morning casts and leisurely evenings by the water. The soothing sounds of the flowing river also contribute to the campground's peaceful ambiance.
The size of Valley Garden Campground is noted as "small, not a lot of sites," which is seen as a significant advantage by one reviewer, stating that it "makes it all the better!!" Smaller campgrounds often offer a more secluded and less crowded experience compared to larger, more developed facilities. This intimacy can enhance the feeling of being immersed in nature and provide a quieter and more relaxing camping environment. If you value peace and tranquility during your camping trips, the small size of Valley Garden Campground could be a major draw.
Wildlife enthusiasts will be particularly interested in the frequent moose sightings reported by campers. One reviewer excitedly recounted seeing "two moose," including a cow hidden in the willows and a "giant bull" running through their campsite. Another reviewer also mentioned that "Moose sightings are frequent." This provides a unique and thrilling element to the camping experience, offering the chance to observe these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. However, it's crucial for campers to maintain a safe distance and never approach or feed wildlife.
Valley Garden Campground is described as "Quiet and serene RV camping along the Madison river." This confirms its suitability for RV travelers seeking a peaceful retreat. The access to the river is also noted as being suitable "for small boats," suggesting opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, or other small watercraft activities directly from the campground. This adds another dimension to the recreational possibilities beyond fishing.
The basic amenities provided at the campsites include "a table and fire ring." These are standard and essential features for comfortable camping, offering a designated space for meals and campfires (subject to local regulations and fire safety guidelines). The availability of fire rings allows for cooking over an open flame and enjoying the warmth and ambiance of a campfire in the evenings.
For restroom facilities, Valley Garden Campground offers "Two community bathrooms." While the specific type of bathrooms is not detailed (they could be vault toilets or pit toilets), the presence of two facilities for a small campground suggests adequate access for the number of sites. Campers should be prepared for basic restroom facilities, as often found in more natural and less developed campgrounds.
The scenery surrounding Valley Garden Campground is consistently praised as "Beautiful." Montana is renowned for its stunning landscapes, and being located near Ennis and the Madison River likely places campers in the midst of picturesque mountain views, lush river valleys, and abundant natural beauty. Waking up to the serene views of the river and the surrounding Montana landscape is a significant part of the appeal of this campground.
A crucial piece of information for prospective campers is that Valley Garden Campground operates on a "First come, first served" basis. This means that reservations are not accepted, and campsites are allocated to those who arrive first. The reviewer who mentioned this strongly advises, "So get there early!" This is essential planning advice, especially during peak camping season or weekends, as popular first-come, first-served campgrounds can fill up quickly. Arriving early in the day significantly increases your chances of securing a desirable campsite.
The overall rating from one reviewer is "5+ stars," indicating an exceptionally positive experience. This strong endorsement, combined with the specific positive comments about the location, wildlife, and atmosphere, suggests that Valley Garden Campground is a highly regarded destination for those seeking a natural and peaceful camping experience in the Ennis, Montana area.
For local users searching for "camping near me" who appreciate a quieter, more intimate setting directly on a river known for fly fishing and wildlife viewing, Valley Garden Campground presents an excellent option. The first-come, first-served policy requires planning and potentially an early arrival, but the rewards of a beautiful lakeside campsite, the chance to see moose, and the serene environment along the Madison River seem well worth the effort. Whether you are an avid fly fisher, a nature lover hoping for wildlife encounters, or simply seeking a peaceful riverside camping spot in Montana, Valley Garden Campground has much to offer.
In conclusion, Valley Garden Campground near Ennis, MT, offers a "great sleeper campground" experience characterized by its beautiful location right on the Madison River, its small and serene atmosphere, frequent moose sightings, and excellent access for fly fishing and small boats. While it operates on a first-come, first-served basis and likely has basic restroom facilities, the stunning scenery and the opportunity to connect with nature make it a highly recommended "camping near me" destination for those seeking a tranquil Montana getaway.

Valley Garden Campground Reviews
What a great sleeper campground. It was awesome and right on the waterSmall, not a lot of sites, but that makes it all the better!! And we saw two moose. The cow is hidden in the willows pic. Then a giant bull came running thru our site last night! Love this place! First come, first served. So get there early!
May 22, 2023 · Tammee RyanQuiet and serene RV camping along the Madison river. Access to the river for small boats. Perfect for fly fishing. Campsites have a table and fire ring. Two community bathrooms. Moose sightings are frequent. Beautiful scenery. 5+ stars.
Aug 13, 2024 · Liston BevardClean, beautiful campsite. Secluded so it's quiet, and the campsites are not too close or too far away from each other. We payed $20 for the night. Fire pits and tables at each campsite, restrooms closeby. Riverfront sites, can't be beat. I'll definitely be coming back.
Jun 20, 2017 · SharonThis place was great! It was pretty, the night we went hovered in high sixties and we had no mosquitoes! We saw two moose at 6:30 when the song birds woke us up, they were literally outside our tent. Wasn’t the best spot for tent camping because it’s pretty rocky but we laid down our mats and it wasn’t the worst. Also we came in late at night and had trouble figuring out what sites were what so I’m pretty sure us and an rv shared a lot but we didn’t mind cause it was so late when they got here too.
Aug 03, 2021 · jack kosinPerfect spot to spend the night car camping while going from Yellowstone to Glacier. We got there about 45 min before sunset and had minimal mosquito problems. Facilities are well maintained and the campsites are on plush grassy plots, very nice.
