Lone Point Recreation Area Introduce
For local residents in the Findlay, Illinois area and those traveling through seeking a picturesque "camping near me" experience, Lone Point Recreation Area, situated at 1653 N 2175 East Rd, Findlay, IL 62534, USA, offers a compelling option, particularly for those who appreciate beautiful lake views. Based on recent customer feedback, this recreation area provides scenic campsites with access to Barkley Lake and clean amenities, although potential visitors should be aware of certain logistical aspects regarding road access and check-in procedures.
The environment at Lone Point Recreation Area is a major highlight for those looking for "camping near me" with natural beauty. Several reviewers specifically mention the "view of the lake" as being a significant positive aspect of their stay. One camper who stayed at Site 46 described the lake view as "what a view!" while another noted the "beautiful location across from Barkley lake." This strong emphasis on the waterfront scenery suggests that many campsites within Lone Point Recreation Area offer stunning vistas of Barkley Lake, providing a tranquil and visually appealing backdrop for a camping getaway. The proximity to the lake also implies opportunities for water-related activities such as fishing, boating, or simply enjoying the lakeside ambiance.
In terms of services and amenities, Lone Point Recreation Area appears to prioritize cleanliness and essential facilities. One reviewer explicitly stated that the "bathroom/shower house was very nice and clean," a crucial factor for many campers when choosing their "camping near me" destination. This positive feedback indicates that the facilities are well-maintained and contribute to a comfortable stay. While specific details about the number of bathroom and shower facilities or their distribution across the campground are not provided, the positive mention suggests that they meet a good standard of cleanliness and functionality.
The reviews also provide some practical information that local users considering "camping near me" at Lone Point Recreation Area should be aware of. One camper noted that the campground is "a little off the highway" and that "the back roads weren't exactly smooth." This suggests that while the location might offer a more secluded and peaceful setting away from highway noise, the access roads might require careful navigation, particularly for larger vehicles. Another reviewer echoed this concern, mentioning that the "roads are very narrow one way... You have to be very careful if your coming with a big rv." This is an important consideration for RV owners or those towing larger trailers when planning their visit to Lone Point Recreation Area.
Another logistical aspect mentioned in one review concerns the check-in process. The camper arrived "a little after 4:00" and found "there wasn't anyone at the check-in station." They proceeded to their pre-booked site and later found the station still unattended. This suggests that during certain hours, particularly mid-afternoon, the check-in might not be immediately staffed. However, the reviewer also mentioned making their reservation online, implying that online booking is available, which can streamline the process. They also "figured they'd come around to check on us eventually," suggesting a more informal or delayed check-in procedure in some cases. Local users should be prepared for the possibility of a temporarily unattended check-in station, especially if arriving outside of peak hours, and should perhaps have their reservation details readily available.
One reviewer who stayed at "lots 2 and 3" mentioned that it was "a far walk to bathroom" from their location. This indicates that the distance to amenities might vary depending on the campsite location within Lone Point Recreation Area. Campers with mobility issues or those who prefer close proximity to restrooms should inquire about site locations relative to the facilities when making their reservations. However, this reviewer still described the location as "awesome" and indicated they "will be back," highlighting the strong appeal of the lakefront setting.
The reviews do not provide specific details about other potential services and features at Lone Point Recreation Area, such as the availability of fire pits, picnic tables, water hookups, or electrical hookups at the campsites. Similarly, information about recreational activities beyond enjoying the lake views (such as boat launches, fishing access points, or hiking trails) is not mentioned. Local users seeking "camping near me" with specific amenity requirements should contact the recreation area directly to inquire about these details.
Promotional information is not included in the provided reviews. Local residents interested in camping at Lone Point Recreation Area should contact them directly at (217) 774-3951 or their mobile number +1 217-774-3951 to inquire about campsite availability, reservation procedures, camping fees, and any potential seasonal rates or discounts. Given the positive feedback regarding the lake views and clean facilities, it is likely a popular destination, especially during peak seasons, so early booking might be advisable.
In conclusion, Lone Point Recreation Area offers a compelling "camping near me" option near Findlay, IL, particularly for those seeking beautiful lake views of Barkley Lake and clean bathroom/shower facilities. While potential visitors should be aware of potentially narrow access roads and the possibility of a temporarily unattended check-in station, the scenic location and clean amenities appear to outweigh these logistical considerations for many campers. The varying distances to amenities depending on the campsite are also worth noting when making reservations. Local users are encouraged to contact Lone Point Recreation Area directly for more detailed information about campsite types, available amenities, and booking procedures to plan their lakeside camping experience.

Lone Point Recreation Area Reviews
We are traveling through and just staying one night. We stayed in Site 46 and what a view of the lake! It's a little off the highway and the back roads weren't exactly smooth. We arrived a little after 4:00 and there wasn't anyone at the check-in station, so we proceeded to our site. After we got set up we went back to check-in, but still no one was there. We made our reservation online so I figured they'd come around to check on us eventually. The bathroom/shower house was very nice and clean. We would definitely stay again.

Sep 07, 2024 · Paula DouglasStayed two weeks with 30 amp, water and sewer. Fit our 40’ travel trailer perfectly and was quiet, close to a boat launch and office was friendly. Just takes over 20 minutes to get to town. Fair cell service
Jun 26, 2024 · Senna HarmonThe cleanest campground bathrooms I've ever seen, by far. Wish I could've stayed more than one night. Will DEFINITELY come back next time I'm in the area!
Aug 02, 2024 · Thorcrom 1Very nice and clean campground not too far from the freeway. Spot 53 has a great view and is far away from other campers. Spot was pretty unlevel, so take lots of blocks and maybe something extra for under your steps. Nicest showers I’ve seen.
