The Natural Environment and Campsite Features
Based on customer feedback, the camping area at Robin Hood Woods Campground & Resort appears to offer a pleasant outdoor setting. One reviewer described their campsite as "level grassy and tree," indicating that many sites provide a comfortable and shaded environment for campers. The presence of trees is a significant advantage, offering relief from the sun and enhancing the overall camping experience. The grassy terrain suggests ease of setting up tents and a generally agreeable ground surface for outdoor living. While the shade is appreciated, it's worth noting that one camper mentioned hearing highway noise throughout the night, which might be a consideration for those particularly sensitive to sound.
The campground's location on IL-16 suggests relatively easy access, which can be a benefit for travelers. However, the proximity to a major road might also contribute to the noise levels experienced at some campsites. Local users planning to camp in tents or RVs should consider this potential noise factor when selecting their site, if possible, or bringing earplugs for a more peaceful night's sleep.
Services and Facilities for Campers
For those utilizing the campground's traditional camping facilities, such as restrooms and showers, feedback indicates a positive experience. One reviewer noted that the "bathrooms were large warm and clean." These are important aspects for camper comfort and hygiene, suggesting that the campground management maintains these facilities to a good standard. However, the same reviewer pointed out that the showers had "pushbutton type water," which some users might find less convenient or prefer a continuous flow of water.
While specific details about other campground services and amenities are not provided in the reviews, typical campgrounds often offer features such as:
- Potable Water Access: For filling water tanks and personal use.
- Electric Hookups: Likely available at some or all RV sites.
- Sewer Hookups: Possibly available at select RV sites.
- Dump Station: For RV waste disposal.
- Fire Pits or Grills: At individual campsites or in common areas.
- Picnic Tables: At campsites for outdoor dining.
- Recreational Areas: Such as playgrounds or open spaces for games.
- Laundry Facilities: Potentially available for longer stays.
To obtain a comprehensive list of services and amenities offered specifically for campers at Robin Hood Woods Campground & Resort, local users are advised to contact them directly via phone or explore their website or online booking platforms, if available.
Features and Concerns Regarding Cabin Rentals
Robin Hood Woods Campground & Resort also offers cabin rentals as an accommodation option. However, the reviews provide significant negative feedback regarding the cleanliness of these cabins. One reviewer stated they would "rate negative in stars for their cabins" and described them as "beyond disgusting." Specific issues highlighted include:
- Food Crumbs and Body Hair on Beds: Indicating a lack of thorough cleaning between guests.
- Used and Dirty Cleaning Supplies: Such as a "used kitchen sponge...with some nasty stuff embedded."
- Unclean Kitchenware: Including coffee mugs that appeared to have been used without washing and a coffee maker with "coffee grounds caked in."
- Dust and Debris: Such as an "inch of dust on the tv component" and a "dog ball with slime and sticks sitting on the bed," suggesting a failure to vacuum or dust.
- Lack of Proper Cleaning Upon Request: Despite complaints and a request for cleaning, the reviewer stated that while sheets were changed, the cabin was not vacuumed or properly cleaned.
- Consistent Issues Across Multiple Cabins: The reviewer mentioned that friends staying in other cabins also reported finding "old candy wrappers and food" in their beds and being given used sponges.
This detailed negative feedback raises serious concerns about the hygiene and cleanliness standards of the cabins at Robin Hood Woods Campground & Resort. Local users considering cabin rentals should be aware of these reported issues and may want to inquire specifically about the cleaning protocols and recent conditions of the cabins before booking.
Camping Rate and Potential Promotional Information
In contrast to the negative feedback about the cabins, one reviewer mentioned that the "camping rate was great." This suggests that the cost for traditional tent or RV camping at Robin Hood Woods Campground & Resort is perceived as reasonable and affordable. However, the specific rate was not provided in the review.
Campgrounds often offer various promotions and discounts to attract visitors. Potential promotional opportunities at Robin Hood Woods Campground & Resort might include:
- Seasonal Discounts: Reduced rates during the off-season or specific times of the year.
- Weekly or Monthly Rates: Offering better value for extended stays.
- Group Rates: For larger parties booking multiple campsites or cabins (though the cabin cleanliness concerns might impact group bookings).
- Special Packages: Combining accommodation with local attractions or campground amenities.
- Loyalty Programs: For repeat customers.
- Early Booking Discounts: Incentives for planning ahead.
Local users interested in the most up-to-date information on camping rates and any available promotions should contact Robin Hood Woods Campground & Resort directly at the provided phone numbers or visit their website or online booking platforms. Summary and Considerations for Local Users
Robin Hood Woods Campground & Resort in Shelbyville, IL, offers a campground with level, grassy, and shaded campsites, and reportedly clean and warm bathroom facilities (though with pushbutton showers). The camping rates are perceived as good, and the staff is described as friendly. These aspects make the campground a potentially attractive option for local users seeking traditional tent or RV camping.
However, significant concerns have been raised by reviewers regarding the cleanliness of the cabins. Multiple reports of unclean bedding, used cleaning supplies, dirty kitchenware, and a lack of thorough cleaning indicate a potentially unsatisfactory experience for those choosing cabin rentals. Local users considering this type of accommodation should be aware of these issues and exercise caution.
For local users specifically interested in camping (tents or RVs), Robin Hood Woods Campground & Resort appears to offer a reasonably priced option with decent facilities and a pleasant environment, although proximity to the highway might result in some noise. For those considering cabin rentals, it would be wise to seek further assurances or recent feedback regarding cleanliness standards before making a booking. Contacting the campground directly at (217) 774-4222 or +1 217-774-4222 is recommended to obtain the most current information on rates, availability, and the condition of both the campsites and the cabins.

Robin Hood Woods Campground & Resort Reviews
Camping rate was great. Bathrooms were large warm and clean. They did have pushbutton type water in shower. Our site was level grassy and tree. I could hear the highway all night. Staff was friendly.
Oct 04, 2024 · Debbie WordenIf I could rate negative in stars for their cabins I would. Beyond disgusting. I get it ..it’s camping but it is not in the middle of a forest where supplies are limited…we had multiple beds in our cabin..all were made nicely until you pull back the covers and see food crumbs (a lot of crumbs like a kid dumped a bag of chips crumbs) and body hair all over. They gave us a used kitchen sponge to clean with that had some nasty stuff embedded..all our coffee mugs looked like they were just drank out off because they had crusty coffee..the coffee maker had coffee grounds caked in. Inch of dust on the tv component on the shelf..oh and how about the dog ball with slime and sticks sitting on the bed. They did not vacuum at all..when we asked for clean sheets and a vacuum they said oh so sorry and changed the sheets but still never vacuumed or cleaned the tv area. Honestly I cleaned and bagged everything when we got home I was so disgusted. These photos don’t do it justice on just how gross these cabins are. And it’s not just a one off. We had friends who said they found old candy wrappers and food in their bed..and were also given used kitchen sponge. The camper area is good but the cabins made it miserable to stay.
Aug 24, 2024 · jdh jdhGreat location, right next to the largest man made dam and lake. Shop is organized and well taken care of. We missed the opportunity to swim in the pool, but it looked very well maintained and clean. Great for walking around if you want to walk a dog or just go for a walk. Clean and taken care of as a whole. Cabins look super nice and fun, we stayed in a camper so that's unknown territory.
Jun 13, 2023 · Susan AndersonIt wasn't the cleanest cottage, noticeable dirt under the bed, we washed what dishes we were going to use before using them because coffee pot wasn't clean, grease on the stove, greasy smears on table. A/C didn't cool the small room at all (we had it set at 66°), they advertise free wifi and there was none not even outside (as I was told to try). Nice place to use your own camper just not a fan of the cottage.
Jul 26, 2023 · Susan UrbinThe owners/staff are amazing and the rest rooms/shower house are super clean! The campground is quiet and family friendly. My only disappointment is the area where tent campers are assigned is cozy, and not in a good way. Our tents ended up being about 2 feet apart from those in neighboring campsites and the group next to us wasn't a good fit with our group. The spots are designed for smaller campers, not tents, so the layout is a bit awkward. My family all agreed we would go back but get back to back spaces instead of spaces in a row which would work out much nicer.
