Lost Creek Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a shaded and scenic "camping near me" experience in the Rhododendron, Oregon area, Lost Creek Campground, located at Rhododendron, OR 97049, USA, offers a compelling option. Situated within the beautiful Mt. Hood National Forest, this campground is praised for its abundant shade, proximity to hiking trails, and the presence of a picturesque creek. You can reach them at (541) 328-0909 or +1 541-328-0909 for inquiries.
One of the most significant advantages of Lost Creek Campground, particularly during the warmer months, is the "lots of shade" provided by the surrounding trees. This natural canopy offers a welcome respite from the sun, allowing campers to relax comfortably throughout the day. For those searching for "camping near me" where staying cool is a priority, Lost Creek Campground appears to be an excellent choice. The shady environment not only enhances comfort but also contributes to a more enjoyable overall camping experience.
The campground's location near Rhododendron also places it within easy reach of beautiful hiking trails. This is a major draw for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy exploring the natural landscapes of the Mt. Hood area. The opportunity to embark on scenic hikes directly from or near the campground adds significant value to the camping experience, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. The mention of a "really pretty (and very cold)" creek further suggests opportunities for enjoying the water, whether it's for wading, cooling off, or simply appreciating its natural beauty. However, it's worth noting the reviewer's comment about the water temperature.
While the campsites are described as being "fairly close to other campers," the overall atmosphere seems to be positive and friendly. One reviewer specifically mentioned that "everyone was really friendly," and their children even made new friends. This suggests a welcoming and community-oriented environment, which can be particularly appealing for families camping with kids. The social aspect of camping can often enhance the experience, and Lost Creek Campground seems to foster a friendly atmosphere among its visitors.
However, it is crucial to note a significant concern raised by a visitor regarding the water quality. The review mentions that "the water was not drinkable unless you don’t mind yellow water!!!" This is a critical piece of information for potential campers. It strongly implies that the campground's water source may not be safe for consumption without proper treatment. Campers planning to stay at Lost Creek Campground should be prepared to bring their own drinking water or have a reliable method for purifying the available water. This issue should be a primary consideration when planning your trip and packing supplies.
In addition to the positive and negative aspects mentioned, a helpful act of kindness was also noted in a review. A visitor reported finding prescription sunglasses on the trail in November 2024 and leaving them attached to the campground message board. While not directly related to the campground's features or services, this anecdote suggests a community of considerate individuals who frequent the area. It also highlights the presence of a message board, which might serve as a point of information and communication for campers.
Considering the available information, Lost Creek Campground offers a shaded and scenic camping experience in a friendly environment near excellent hiking opportunities and a pretty creek. However, the significant issue of potentially undrinkable water is a major drawback that campers must be prepared for. Despite this, the positive aspects of shade, nearby recreation, and a welcoming atmosphere may still make it an attractive option for those seeking "camping near me" in the Rhododendron area, provided they come prepared with their own potable water.

Lost Creek Campground Reviews
Great campground with lots of shade for hot days. My only complaint would be that the water was not drinkable unless you don’t mind yellow water!!! Fairly close to other campers, but everyone was really friendly and our kids made some good friends. Beautiful hikes nearby and the creek was really pretty (and very cold). Would definitely go again!!

Nov 19, 2024 · andy goochNice campground with lots of shade. Pit toilets were OK. There's a hand pump water source. Interpretive trail. Check out the 1.5 mile trail-of-use going along Lost Creek downstream (NW) from the campground, it gets vague at a gully just outside the campground but after that becomes very clearly defined - and gorgeous, with thick layers of moss and huckleberries plentiful. Has fallen trees over it so have to climb over those. Lots of dispersed camping nearby.
Aug 18, 2020 · David LGorgeous campground! My only problem is that the campsites feel a little crowded in comparison to all the space they have there. The bathrooms were really clean (for a campground anyway), and none of them are a terribly far walk from the sites. The creek is really cool though, and there's a nice nature trail at the campground. And going past the walk in sites (through the picnic area) there's more trails that go into the wise old forest there.I liked it, but I think next time I'll pick somewhere closer to civilization.
Jun 10, 2018 · CharlieVery beautiful campground, tidy campsites and clean bathrooms. The host did a great job maintaining the site. There is a lovely trail to Romona falls nearby. It is a 7 mile hike but totally worth it!
