Lost Creek Outpost Campground Introduce
For local adventurers and those seeking a truly intimate and secluded "camping near me" experience in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Lost Creek Outpost Campground, located near Ontonagon, MI 49953, USA, offers a unique, albeit very small, camping destination. With the distinct characteristic of having only three campsites and a corresponding single toilet facility, this campground caters to those prioritizing solitude and a more primitive camping experience. For users exploring platforms under the category "camping near me," Lost Creek Outpost Campground presents an option for a quiet and off-the-beaten-path getaway, particularly for those prepared for a more rustic setting.
The environment of Lost Creek Outpost Campground is defined by its small size and likely its natural surroundings in the Ontonagon area. While specific details about the landscape (e.g., wooded, near water) are not provided in the limited reviews, the fact that campers were originally planning to camp on national forest property suggests that the general area is likely characterized by natural beauty, potentially including forests, rivers, or other features typical of the Upper Peninsula. The campground itself, being small with only three sites, inherently offers a sense of seclusion and quiet. One reviewer mentioned setting up a camping trailer, indicating that the sites can accommodate at least some form of recreational vehicle, although the operation of a generator was kept minimal due to nearby tent campers, suggesting a respect for the quiet environment.
The services and facilities at Lost Creek Outpost Campground are explicitly described as basic. The presence of only "three sites and toilet facility for same" indicates a very limited infrastructure. The toilet facility is identified as an "outhouse," which implies a non-flush, more rustic restroom option. Despite the simplicity, one reviewer found it "nice having an outhouse nearby," suggesting that even basic facilities are appreciated in a more remote setting. The review also mentions "cooking on the fire," indicating that campfires are permitted and likely fire rings are provided at each of the three campsites. The availability of water is not mentioned in the reviews, so campers should likely plan to bring their own or inquire about any water sources beforehand. Similarly, no mention is made of other amenities such as picnic tables or waste disposal, further reinforcing the likelihood of a more primitive camping experience.
The primary feature of Lost Creek Outpost Campground is its exclusivity due to the extremely limited number of campsites. This ensures a high degree of privacy and quiet for those fortunate enough to secure a spot. The first reviewer's experience of being mindful of generator use due to tent campers highlights the expectation of a peaceful environment within the small campground. The second reviewer's experience of finding the last available spot after their national forest camping plans were thwarted by weather underscores the limited capacity and the potential for the campground to fill up quickly, especially if it is a desirable alternative for those seeking shelter or a designated camping area.
Given the lack of specific promotional information in the provided reviews, the inherent promotion of Lost Creek Outpost Campground lies in its promise of a secluded and quiet camping experience in the Ontonagon area. Its small size and the basic amenities suggest a focus on nature and a more traditional camping style. For those seeking to escape crowded campgrounds and immerse themselves in a more natural setting, the limited number of sites could be a significant draw. The recommendation from a satisfied camper who found it available on short notice ("I definitely recommend this campground if you are in the area") serves as a positive endorsement for its suitability as a convenient and pleasant overnight stop or a base for exploring the surrounding area.
It is important for local users considering Lost Creek Outpost Campground to be aware of its very limited capacity and basic facilities. Securing one of the three campsites may require checking availability in advance if a contact number exists (none is provided in the given information) or simply arriving and hoping for an opening. Campers should be prepared for an outhouse toilet facility and should likely bring their own water and be self-sufficient in terms of other camping needs. The quiet atmosphere, while appealing to some, might also come with an expectation of minimizing noise and respecting the privacy of the other campers. The experience is likely geared towards those who are comfortable with a more rustic and less developed camping environment.
In conclusion, Lost Creek Outpost Campground near Ontonagon, Michigan, offers a unique "camping near me" option for those seeking a secluded and quiet getaway. Its extremely limited number of campsites (only three) ensures a high degree of privacy and a more intimate connection with nature. While the facilities are basic, including an outhouse and likely fire rings, the campground provides a convenient and recommended option for those in the area, particularly those who appreciate a more rustic camping experience. Local users should be prepared for the limited capacity and basic amenities and should consider this campground if their priority is solitude and a simple camping setup in the Upper Peninsula. Further information about availability or specific regulations might require local inquiries in the Ontonagon area.

Lost Creek Outpost Campground Reviews
Only three sites and toilet facility for same. We setup camping trailer with generator. Other sites occupied by tents so generator operation was minimal.
Oct 03, 2024 · Bruce BradshawDue to weather we were unable to camp on national forest property like we originally planned. We drove past this campground and decided to call and see if it was available for the night. Luckily one of the three spots hadn't been booked so we got it. It was nice having an outhouse nearby and enjoyed cooking on the fire. I definitely recommend this campground if you are in the area.
Dec 12, 2022 · Noah HunleySmall rustic campground! We stayed in site 3 (furthest from the road and closest to the bathroom). The site was large. There wasn’t much privacy between sites but there are only 3 sites. Obviously this is completely out of the park’s control but just a forewarning, we went at the end of May and the black flies were intolerable, especially at the campground.
Jun 01, 2024 · Cassidy TeepleNice secluded spot. Has 3 sites. I actually disagree that number one is the best, it's small and the closest to the road (it does have grass though). We stayed at 3, which is the furthest back and was way bigger than the other two. All three are in a straight line with no real divider so I guess you can't go wrong. The bathroom was maintained to and had air fresheners
Aug 13, 2021 · Justin H3 site campground. Much more peaceful than the large campgrounds in the park. Site 1 is the best.
