Situated in the scenic Adirondack foothills, Luzerne Campground provides a base for exploring the natural beauty of the area, including its namesake lake and proximity to the popular Lake George region. Based on recent customer reviews, potential local campers can gain insights into the environment, services, and features of this campground to help plan their next outdoor adventure.
One reviewer who recently spent a week at Luzerne Campground with family noted that while some areas need attention, the campground has shown significant improvement over the past few years. Specifically, they mentioned that the "bathroom areas could use a good cleaning" and that "a bunch of fireplace areas still need to be redone." However, the overall positive tone of their review, emphasizing a "great week with all my family," suggests that the positive aspects of the campground outweighed these shortcomings for their group.
Another reviewer provided a more detailed account of their experience. They noted that the "sites were on the small side," which might be a consideration for campers with larger setups or those prioritizing spaciousness. However, they also highlighted having a "great location" within the campground, suggesting that site selection could be a factor in overall satisfaction. A significant positive aspect mentioned was the friendliness and helpfulness of the "rangers," who were described as "very friendly and informative with the kids," indicating a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere with staff who engage positively with young visitors.
The reviewer also pointed out the presence of "private and quiet" campsites, which can be a major draw for those seeking a peaceful and secluded camping experience away from the noise and bustle of more crowded campgrounds. A notable recent improvement is the presence of "brand new bathhouses with showers," which likely offer a more modern and comfortable amenity for campers. While their "regular bathroom could have been updated," they noted that it was still "clean and worked," suggesting that while some facilities might be older, basic functionality and cleanliness are maintained.
For recreational activities, Luzerne Campground offers a "small beach to swim" in Lake Luzerne, providing a convenient way for campers to cool off and enjoy the water. Additionally, the reviewer mentioned finding a "fishing spot" across the lake, indicating opportunities for angling enthusiasts. The overall experience was described as "great for us and the kids," further reinforcing its appeal to families. The campground's proximity to Lake George, noted as "not far," makes it a potentially attractive option for those wanting to explore the attractions and activities of the more well-known Lake George region while enjoying a quieter camping setting.
Considering the environment of Luzerne Campground, its location in Lake Luzerne, NY, suggests a setting within the Adirondack region, known for its natural beauty, including lakes, forests, and mountains. The presence of Lake Luzerne itself provides a focal point for water-based activities and scenic views. The mention of riverside campsites (implied, though not explicitly stated) could also contribute to the environmental appeal. The mix of potentially wooded and more open areas might offer varied camping experiences depending on the site.

The features of Luzerne Campground include its location near Lake George, its access to Lake Luzerne with a swimming beach and fishing opportunities, the presence of both private and quiet campsites, the availability of brand new bathhouses with showers, and the friendly and informative rangers. The smaller size of some campsites might be a feature to consider for those with larger camping setups. The ongoing need for improvements to some facilities, like older bathrooms and fireplace areas, is also a characteristic of the campground at this time.
From a promotional perspective for local users searching for "camping near me," Luzerne Campground can highlight its proximity to the popular Lake George region while offering a potentially more tranquil and less crowded camping experience on Lake Luzerne. The availability of a swimming beach and fishing opportunities on the lake are attractive features for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The presence of new bathhouses is a significant upgrade that enhances comfort and convenience. The friendly and informative rangers contribute to a positive and welcoming atmosphere. The private and quiet campsites appeal to those seeking a more secluded retreat in nature.
However, it is also important for potential local campers to be aware of the reported need for better cleaning in some bathroom areas and the ongoing projects to redo fireplace areas. The smaller size of some campsites might also be a consideration for those with larger RVs or extensive camping gear. By presenting both the positive aspects and the areas needing improvement, local users can form a more objective understanding of what to expect at Luzerne Campground.
For local families and individuals in the Lake George area looking for a camping option, Luzerne Campground offers a location with access to both Lake Luzerne and the broader attractions of Lake George. The recent upgrades to the bathhouses are a significant plus, and the friendly rangers are likely to enhance the visitor experience. The private and quiet atmosphere of the campsites can be a welcome contrast to more bustling campgrounds. However, potential campers should be prepared for the possibility of smaller campsites and the noted need for improvements to some of the older facilities. Overall, Luzerne Campground appears to be a destination with a positive trajectory, offering a good base for enjoying the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of the region.

Luzerne Campground Reviews
Bathroom areas could use a good cleaning and a bunch of fireplace areas still need to be redone. But it's come a long way in the last few years. What a great week with all my family.
Aug 12, 2022 · Laura GregorySites were on the small side, but we had a great location. Rangers were very friendly and informative with the kids. Private and quiet, brand new bathhouses with showers. Our regular bathroom could have been updated but it was clean and worked. Small beach to swim and across the lake we found a fishing spot, Great experience for us and the kids. Not far from Lake George its the perfect spot!
Aug 07, 2018 · Amanda Erbeckbathrooms are a little run down. Showers are nice and new. Great campsite, a little open to everyone else as there isn't any ground cover but very well maintained. Happy to have stayed there and I will go back!
Aug 28, 2018 · William BrewerWe were surrounded by groups of extremely rude campers. The park staff fax them numerous times to quiet down throughout the day and the night and they did not listen. The camper should have been asked to leave but yet they were able to stay. It did not matter what time of day it was as they were loud 24 hours a day. The lake was closed so you could not go swimming.
