Marian Campground Introduce
For local adventurers seeking a camping experience with stunning panoramic views and a sense of being on top of the world, Marian Campground, located off Forest Rte 9N27 in Maricopa, CA 93252, USA, offers a unique opportunity within the 'Camping Near Me' category. Situated atop a mountain and accessible via a trail suitable for 4x4 SUVs, Marian Campground provides an open space with campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis. While the location boasts incredible scenery and a tranquil atmosphere, it's essential for prospective visitors to be aware that this is a primitive camping area with very limited amenities, requiring campers to be fully self-sufficient.
The environment of Marian Campground is its primary draw, characterized by its elevated position offering "amazing" and "beautiful" scenery. Being located on top of a mountain, campers can expect expansive vistas of the surrounding landscape, making it a "perfect spot to watch sunrise." The open space nature of the campground suggests that visitors will have unobstructed views and a feeling of being immersed in the natural surroundings. The trail leading up to the campground, described as "easy" for a 4x4 SUV, indicates that while some level of off-road capability is needed, the access is manageable for appropriate vehicles. The presence of this trail also implies opportunities for potential hiking or exploring the immediate vicinity on foot. However, the open nature of the area might mean limited natural shade, so campers should plan accordingly, especially during hotter months like late July, when daytime temperatures can be quite high, contrasting with cooler nights.
In terms of services and features, Marian Campground is extremely basic. A significant point emphasized by visitor reviews is the complete absence of bathroom facilities and trash service directly at the campground. Campers must be entirely self-reliant in managing their waste, adhering strictly to Leave No Trace principles. This includes packing out all trash and responsibly handling human waste. One reviewer noted the presence of a bathroom at the Caballo Campground down the trail, suggesting a nearby but not on-site option, requiring a drive to access. The only commodity explicitly mentioned as available at Marian Campground is picnic tables, indicating a very rudimentary level of infrastructure. There are no mentions of water sources, fire pits, or designated parking spots beyond the general open space. Therefore, campers should plan to bring their own water, cooking equipment, and potentially portable toilet solutions if they prefer not to use the facilities at Caballo Campground.
The "first come first serve" nature of the campsites means that reservations are not taken, and availability depends on arrival time. This can be both advantageous (for spontaneous trips) and disadvantageous (as there's no guarantee of a spot, especially during peak seasons or weekends). The limited information does not specify the number of available campsites, so it's advisable to arrive early to secure a good location. The open space layout might offer flexibility in choosing a campsite but could also mean less defined boundaries between camping parties.
One positive aspect highlighted in a review is that "dog loved it," suggesting that Marian Campground is pet-friendly. However, potential visitors should consider the open environment and any potential hazards for their pets, such as the terrain or local wildlife. Another point of concern mentioned by a visitor was the presence of "lots of wasps" during a late July visit. This indicates that insect activity can be significant at certain times of the year, and campers should come prepared with appropriate insect repellent and take precautions to avoid attracting wasps to their food and camping area.
For local users searching the 'Camping Near Me' platform for a unique and scenic camping experience, Marian Campground offers the allure of mountain top views and a sense of remoteness. The accessibility via a relatively easy 4x4 trail makes it appealing to those with suitable vehicles who are comfortable with primitive camping. The promise of beautiful scenery, especially the sunrise, and the quiet solitude of a potentially uncrowded site (as one visitor found it empty) are significant attractions. However, the complete lack of essential amenities like bathrooms and trash disposal requires a high level of preparedness and commitment to responsible outdoor ethics.
The phone number provided, (661) 245-3731 ext. 0 and +1 661-245-3731 ext. 0, might be useful for inquiring about the current conditions of the access trail or any specific regulations for the area. The address, Forest Rte 9N27, Maricopa, CA 93252, USA, provides the general location for navigation. Given the limited amenities, Marian Campground is best suited for experienced campers who are comfortable being self-sufficient and prioritize stunning views and a more isolated camping experience over convenience and facilities.
In conclusion, Marian Campground offers local users a remarkable opportunity for mountain top camping with breathtaking scenery and sunrise views. Its accessibility via 4x4 vehicles and first-come-first-serve system make it a potentially appealing option for spontaneous trips. However, the complete absence of bathrooms and trash service necessitates thorough preparation and a strong commitment to Leave No Trace principles. The presence of picnic tables is a basic amenity, but campers must bring everything else they need, including water and waste management solutions. While the open space and potential for solitude are attractive, the possibility of insect activity (like wasps) during certain times of the year should also be considered. For well-prepared and adventurous local campers seeking a scenic and rustic mountain getaway, Marian Campground could be an unforgettable 'Camping Near Me' destination.

Marian Campground Reviews
Great spot on top of the mountain. Drove up the trail with 4x4 suv, easy trail. Open space with first come first serve spots. No bathrooms, no trash, be prepared to bring it with you. There’s a bathroom at the Caballo campground down the trail (you’ll pass by driving up the trail). Dog loved it. Only thing, lots of wasps around our area. Went late July, was quite hot in the day, cool at night. Beautiful scenery, perfect spot to watch sunrise. Would go again!
Aug 07, 2022 · Jérôme PichéThere was nobody at this site when I visited. Bring your own everything because picnic tables were the only commodities available. The view is AMAZING.
Jul 23, 2024 · Brian ChapmanThe drive up is extremely treacherous, and good luck calling for help if you get stuck. Tons of wasps, flies, and mosquitos. No toilets. ATVs and dirtbikes constantly ripping through at high speed, even in the middle of the night. Don't come.
