The Environment and Location on Merritt Island
Merritt Island is a barrier island on Florida's Space Coast, known for its proximity to the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, as well as its diverse natural environment. The island is bordered by the Indian River Lagoon and the Banana River, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, and wildlife viewing. The location of the Moose Lodge Campground on North Courtenay Parkway (US-1) places it in a relatively central area of Merritt Island, providing easy access to both natural attractions and commercial amenities. Reviews mention the convenience of having "lots of stores and restaurants right down the road," indicating that while the campground itself might offer a more secluded feel behind the lodge, essential services are readily available.
The campground itself is described as "underutilized," suggesting a potentially quiet and less crowded camping experience. The sites are a mix of "grass or gravel," offering some variety for parking and setup. While some sites are noted to be "more level than others," one reviewer found site nine to be "good," indicating that with careful selection, comfortable and level parking is achievable. The presence of a local maintenance man on one site suggests that the grounds are cared for, contributing to a well-maintained environment for members and their guests.
The proximity to Cape Canaveral makes the Moose Lodge Campground an excellent "home base" for those interested in visiting the space center or witnessing a rocket launch, a significant draw for tourists and locals alike. The surrounding natural environment of Merritt Island, with its lagoons and wildlife refuges, also offers opportunities for nature enthusiasts to explore the unique ecosystems of the Space Coast.

Moose lodge campground Reviews
Underutilized campground behind the moose lodge. Must be a member to use this campground. 20 sites all have 30/50 amp power and water. There is a pump out station to use. Also we were also told it was fine to dry camp in their parking lot, we stayed for one week in October 2023. We were the only campers there one site being used by the local maintenance man. Sites are either grass or gravel. Some are more level than others. We used sight nine which was good. Wi-Fi is good and had good cell service through T-Mobile. There is a washer and dryer on site $1.75 a load. Good food in the moose and lots of activities in the evening. Good place to stay if you want to visit cape Canaveral or watch a rocket launch. Lots of stores and restaurants right down the road.
Oct 18, 2023 · Kellie HanckThere as a guest. Extremely impressed by the rv facilities, the lodge and especially its patrons. The "pizza" was to die for. Certainly goes down as one of my favorite weekends spent. Lots to do in that area and there's no better home base than the Moose Lodge.
