Moss Landing KOA Express Introduce
Moss Landing KOA Express, located at 7905 Sandholdt Rd, Moss Landing, CA 95039, USA, is a prime destination for those searching for "Camping Near Me" with a specific focus on RV travel. Contactable at (831) 633-6800 or +1 831-633-6800, this campground offers a unique and convenient base from which to explore the natural wonders and vibrant local culture of the Monterey Bay area. It's important to note that unlike some other KOA properties, Moss Landing KOA Express is exclusively for fully self-contained RVs; it does not accommodate tents, car camping, or cabins.
Situated directly in the heart of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, this KOA is a true nature lover's paradise. Its location offers unparalleled access to a diverse array of wildlife, from sea lions and sea otters to various bird species and even breaching whales right offshore. This makes it an ideal spot for visitors seeking an immersive experience with marine and coastal ecosystems.
The environment at Moss Landing KOA Express is defined by its immediate proximity to the natural beauty of the California coast and the bustling Moss Landing harbor. Reviewers consistently praise the park for its cleanliness and well-maintained grounds, reflecting a commitment to providing a pleasant stay. The RV sites are described as paved, level, and all are back-in with full hookups (water, sewer, and both 30 and 50 amp electric service), accommodating RVs up to 60 feet in length, with some sources indicating up to 90 feet. This ensures that large rigs can be comfortably accommodated.
A significant highlight of the location is its close proximity to stunning beaches and dunes, offering excellent opportunities for walks along the river and coastal exploration. Guests frequently report seeing a variety of wildlife directly from the campground or the nearby beach, including noisy sea lions vying for sunbathing spots in the marina, chilled-out sea otters, breaching whales, and pelicans. While the ocean water is cool and waves can be unpredictable, making it less ideal for swimming, the opportunities for wildlife observation and scenic walks are abundant.
Key amenities at Moss Landing KOA Express include:
- Full Hookup RV Sites: All sites provide water, sewer, and both 30 and 50 amp electrical connections.
- Modern Restrooms & Showers: The facilities are consistently noted as clean and well-maintained, although some reviews suggest there are only a limited number of combined unisex restroom/shower units, which might lead to queues during peak times.
- 24-Hour Laundry Room: Convenient for longer stays, equipped with washers and dryers.
- Wi-Fi & Cable TV: Available at sites, ensuring guests can stay connected and entertained, though some reviewers mention Wi-Fi signal can be inconsistent.
- General Store: A well-stocked store provides necessities, snacks, and other camping essentials.
- Propane Firepit Rentals: Allowing guests to enjoy campfires without the need for traditional wood fires.
- Playground: Located within walking distance, offering a space for children to play.
- Kamp K9® Dog Park: While not explicitly detailed, being a KOA, it's highly likely there are pet-friendly areas, potentially including a dog park.
The service at Moss Landing KOA Express receives high marks for its welcoming and helpful staff. Guests consistently praise the staff at check-in, often receiving fresh baked cookies upon arrival, and noting their readiness to assist with parking RVs and providing any further necessary support. This commitment to customer service significantly enhances the overall experience, reducing the stress often associated with road trips or setting up camp.
Specific features of the park include:
- Self-Contained RVs Only: This policy ensures a consistent experience for RV travelers and helps maintain the park's specific character. No tents, car camping, passenger vehicles, cargo trailers, or converted vans/trailers are permitted.
- Pet-Friendly Policies: Pets are welcomed, but specific breed restrictions apply (e.g., Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Chow, Dobermans, American Staffordshire Terriers are not permitted). Pets must be on a leash, cleaned up after, and not left unattended outside. The park often provides bags and trash receptacles in designated dog areas.
- No Long-Term or Extended Stays: The park does not offer monthly or weekly rates, with a maximum stay limit of 28 days. This indicates a focus on shorter-term recreational visits rather than permanent residency.
- Strict Flag Policy: Only the standard American flag may be flown; no other flags (including sports teams, political, etc.) are allowed.
Beyond the campground, the location offers a wealth of nearby attractions and activities. Within walking distance are several delightful restaurants, including "Phil's Snack Shack" and "Phil's Fish Market," as well as other local eateries like Moss Landing Cafe. For nature enthusiasts, the Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve, one of California's largest coastal wetlands, is a highlight. Guests can take boat tours to observe sea otters, harbor seals, and numerous bird species. Whale watching cruises also depart directly from Moss Landing Harbor, offering year-round opportunities to spot marine giants.
For those willing to drive a short distance, the Moss Landing KOA Express serves as an excellent central point for exploring the wider Monterey Bay area. Santa Cruz and Monterey are both approximately a 30-minute drive away, offering attractions such as the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf, and various museums. The famous Pebble Beach 17-Mile Drive is also a must-see for scenic views.
The primary promotional appeal of Moss Landing KOA Express lies in its prime coastal location and its commitment to a clean, friendly, and wildlife-rich RV camping experience. The testimonials from real customers strongly reinforce these points:

- "7 noisy sea-lions fighting for sun-lounging space... Saw whales breaching... pelicans and more sea-lions from the beach."

Moss Landing KOA Express Reviews
Great RV site, close to stunning beach and dunes walk along river.7 noisy sea- lions fighting for sun- lounging space on a pontoon in the marina, got upset when a chilled out sea otter got too close!Saw whales breaching out at sea, pelicans and more sea-lions from the beach - water cool and waves a bit unpredictable so not good for swimming
Apr 27, 2025 · David KainThe greatest spots to stay on the road are those that welcome you with open arms and limit the drama that can arise if the slightest thing is not in order. The road trip can be stressful enough on its own. The staff welcomed us and assisted in parking our rig and offered any further assistance if necessary. The park is clean and well maintained with a store filled with necessities. The showers and bathrooms were always clean along with the grounds and facilities. We love this park because it exists with everything nature by the sea! Recommended for all travelers seeking beauty and excitement.
Feb 26, 2025 · Mr fix itWe had a wonderful time staying at this little KOA. Liz and Ben were just the best, and they clearly care so much about this Park. Their dedication goes into every detail of our stay, from the cookies upon arrival to the meticulous landscaping and upkeep of the sites. They were both kind, friendly, and down-to-earth people who made you feel welcome. We can't wait to come back! The sites are a little tight but the staff (Ben!) is diligent in helping back people in and ensuring that everyone is parked correctly / not blocking the road. This park is just a short walk to the marina and beach where an abundance of sea lions and sea otters roam. There are a handful of good restaurants in the area as well as fish markets (like less than 5 mins drive time).
Feb 24, 2025 · Jessica RExpress it is named possibly due to the small number of sites. 46 I believe. That is an attraction for me. Situated off highway 1 and surrounded by the marina is very appealing for us. Reservations were made over the phone with Liz. She did a nice job of getting us in for the following day. Check in was with Ben. Friendly and in formative, he met us at our site and gave us some tips as we backed in. Also, Ben offered us 2 big locks to use at no charge for our$$$$ E-Bikes and some Otis Spunkmeyer cookies, a nice touch. Easy walk into the marina area or onto the beach. It was quiet at night. Occasional sounds from Highway 1 in the daytime. I really can't say anyhing I didn't like. Maybe a wider site would be nice but appreciated the clean concrete pads. We will be back for sure.
Mar 17, 2025 · Patrick JohnsonThis was the second time here and it did not disappoint. Super helpful staff when we arrived. Had a dead battery on our toad and offered to help. For such a little place this is one of the cleanest campgrounds we've ever visited. It's the perfect base camp for activities around Monterey.
