Nahma Resort Campground Introduce
For local residents in Michigan's Upper Peninsula seeking a serene "camping near me" experience by the water, Nahma Resort Campground, located at 13723 Main St, Nahma, MI 49864, USA, offers a tranquil setting despite its name being somewhat misleading. While one reviewer explicitly states that it is "not a resort by any stretch of the imagination" and lacks traditional resort amenities, the campground provides a peaceful and quiet environment with essential hookups and access to a historic area and a beautiful lake.
The primary appeal of Nahma Resort Campground lies in its lakeside location. One reviewer mentioned a "beautiful view of the lake," suggesting that campers can enjoy scenic vistas and potentially engage in water-related activities such as fishing. The proximity to the water contributes to the overall peaceful and quiet atmosphere of the campground, making it an attractive option for those seeking a relaxing escape from the everyday hustle. The experience of stargazing and even meteor watching, as mentioned by one guest, further highlights the tranquil environment and the potential for enjoying the natural beauty of the night sky away from city lights.
In terms of services and amenities at Nahma Resort Campground, the information from the reviews indicates a basic setup. Water and electric hookups are available at the grassy campsites. The ground is described as "very solid," which is a practical advantage, preventing issues with mud even after rain. However, it's crucial to note the lack of other traditional resort amenities. Campers should be prepared for a more self-sufficient camping experience, as facilities like restrooms, showers, or a dump station are not explicitly mentioned. The term "water and electric sites on grass" suggests a more rudimentary camping setup focused on providing essential utility connections.
One significant drawback mentioned by a reviewer is the condition of the road going through the campground, which is described as "very narrow and rough and full of potholes." This is an important consideration for local users, especially those with larger RVs or trailers, as navigating such a road could be challenging. However, the individual campsites themselves are reported to be level, which is a positive aspect for setting up camp comfortably.
Despite the limited amenities within the campground itself, the surrounding area and the staff receive high praise. The camp host is described as "very friendly" by one reviewer. Another reviewer had an exceptionally positive experience with Paula and Bob, who went above and beyond to provide assistance and shelter during a surprise tropical storm, highlighting their incredible friendliness and courtesy. This level of helpfulness and care from the staff can significantly enhance a camper's experience, especially when unexpected situations arise.
The location of Nahma Resort Campground in the town of Nahma offers additional points of interest. One reviewer mentioned "old ruins around and lots of history in that town," suggesting opportunities for exploration and learning about the local heritage. This could be a significant draw for history buffs and those who enjoy exploring the areas surrounding their campsite. The mention of Nahma being "great for people who want to go exploring" further supports this aspect of the location.
Another notable feature is the local inn and restaurant, which is described as a "quaint little bar" with "very good" food and a "very friendly" bartender. This provides a convenient option for campers who may want to enjoy a meal out or socialize in a welcoming atmosphere without having to travel far from the campground. The positive experiences at the inn and restaurant contribute to the overall appeal of the location.
While the owner is mentioned as possibly needing to invest in the campground's infrastructure, the positive aspects of the peaceful environment, friendly staff, and the surrounding historic area and lake make Nahma Resort Campground a potentially attractive option for local users seeking a low-key "camping near me" experience focused on relaxation and exploration. Campers should be aware of the limited on-site amenities and the condition of the campground road and come prepared for a more rustic camping experience with water and electric hookups.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. Local users interested in learning about any potential seasonal rates, booking procedures, or specific details about the campsites should contact Nahma Resort Campground directly using the provided phone numbers: (906) 644-2728 or +1 906-644-2728. It would be advisable to inquire about the road conditions within the campground and any available facilities to ensure it meets their specific camping needs.
In conclusion, Nahma Resort Campground offers local residents a peaceful lakeside "camping near me" option in a historically rich area of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. While it may not live up to the "resort" designation in terms of amenities, it provides water and electric hookups, level campsites, and a tranquil environment perfect for stargazing and enjoying the lake. The incredibly friendly and helpful staff, along with the proximity to the Nahma Inn's restaurant and the opportunities for exploring local history, make it a unique destination for those seeking a quiet and authentic camping experience. Potential visitors should be prepared for a rustic setting and inquire about the campground's road conditions and available facilities before their stay.

Nahma Resort Campground Reviews
First of all this is not a resort by any stretch of the imagination there are no amenities of any type just water and electric sites on grass. The ground is very solid so even though it had just rained we had no issues. The road going through the campground is very narrow and rough and full of potholes. The sights are level and it is very peaceful and quiet, enjoyed stargazing and watching meteors. The restaurant at the Inn is a quaint little bar and food was very good and bartender was very friendly. CG host was very friendly. Too bad the owner doesn't see the need to put a little money into the campground as this is in a great location.
Aug 13, 2021 · D LyonsNot only where the staff incredibly friendly and courteous, they went above and beyond and helped me and my daughter out when a surprise tropical storm!!! came in. Being a city slicker I didn't know what I was in for but Paula and Bob made sure I had adequate shelter prepared for me and my daughter that night. And trust me I needed it greatly at about 2:30 in the morning when the lake decided to come in to my tent. the next morning they came to check on us to make sure everything was okay and helped us gather our things. All-in-all if it wasn't for those two that could have turned out to be a terrible adventure. The campground was nice there was power and water hookups, adequate space ,well-maintained property and a beautiful view of the lake. Old ruins around and lots of history in that town. Great for people who want to go exploring, fishing and history buffs. The local inn and restaurant has great food and friendly staff. . .. from the moment I got there the place felt like a second home.
Jun 25, 2020 · john zoidburgThis place is horrid. All of the recent reviews are spot on. I called to make a reservation and the person answering said I didn’t need to as they had plenty of room. When we arrived, we found out why. This is NOT a “resort” by ANY stretch of the imagination. It is an unkept, poorly maintained, and SCARY BAD field where there were a few trailers parked. It was hard to tell if they were even occupied. It looked like most had been abandoned. There was no one in the “office” and when we drove in we noticed that it was a field surrounded by swampy water which looked like it probably bred millions of mosquitos. It was not mowed or even remotely maintained. It really looked like the place had been just abandoned. We immediately found the exit and got out of there. There was no way we even considered spending the night there. It was not just “bad” it was “scary bad!” I wish there was a way to give negative stars because this dump would rate a MINUS 10!
Jul 16, 2023 · Steve DerebeyPaid for reservation. Requested to receive refund due to medical incident that canceled our trip. Requested refund. Owner said he'd have his staff call me to take care of it. No call, they won't answer my calls or email. Writing review on RV sites as well. I have many followers based on my reviews and pictures...SO I guess I lost my $ but now you see the type of person. Your dealing with.
Sep 13, 2022 · Lenore GoodLocation is great. The lack of available/on-call staffing, groundskeeping, & seasonal user campsite trash made the campground unappealing to us and we are not campground snobs used to KOA amenities.Has great potential though.
