This is a state park. Camping was crammed and the sites were not maintained. They were filled with trees, roots, rocks and tree stumps. The sites are also hard to get into because of the way they are situated. You are literally on top of your neighbors!! Our site had lots of cigarette butts in the grass. It seemed to be run by kids, so there wasn’t much urgency to anything. The bathrooms could have been cleaner, but overall were not that bad. Lots of traffic noise overnight. On the positive side, you are mere steps from Lake Champlain and a short drive from downtown Burlington. Not my favorite campground! - Chris Gee

North Beach Campground Introduce

For local users exploring "camping near me" in the Burlington, VT area, North Beach Campground, situated at 60 Institute Rd, Burlington, VT 05408, USA, presents a state-operated camping option with a significant advantage: its proximity to Lake Champlain and downtown Burlington. With contact numbers (802) 862-0942 and +1 802-862-0942 available for inquiries, North Beach Campground offers a potentially convenient location for those wishing to combine outdoor camping with access to urban amenities and waterfront recreation. However, recent customer reviews provide important insights into the campground's conditions and atmosphere that local users should carefully consider.

The Environment: Proximity to Lake Champlain and Urban Elements:

One of the most frequently cited positive aspects of North Beach Campground is its location. It is described as being "mere steps from Lake Champlain," offering easy and immediate access to the lake for swimming, boating, and enjoying the waterfront. Additionally, its location provides a "short drive from downtown Burlington," allowing campers to conveniently explore the city's attractions, restaurants, and shops. This proximity to both natural and urban environments is a key feature for those seeking a balanced camping experience. However, the reviews also highlight some less desirable environmental aspects within the campground itself. One camper described the camping as "crammed" with sites that were "not maintained" and "filled with trees, roots, rocks and tree stumps." This suggests that setting up camp might be challenging, and the terrain could be uneven and obstructed. Another concern raised is "lots of traffic noise overnight," indicating that the urban proximity might come with some drawbacks in terms of noise pollution, potentially impacting the tranquility of the camping experience.

Services and Amenities: Full RV Hookups and Basic Facilities:

In terms of services and amenities, one positive note is that the "camp sites have full service hookups," making it a suitable option for RV campers who require electricity, water, and sewer connections. This is a significant convenience for RV travelers exploring the Burlington area. Regarding other facilities, one reviewer mentioned that "the bathrooms could have been cleaner, but overall were not that bad," suggesting that while restrooms are available, their cleanliness might be a point of concern for some visitors. The same reviewer also noted a perceived lack of urgency among the staff, stating, "It seemed to be run by kids, so there wasn’t much urgency to anything." This could potentially impact the responsiveness to guest needs or the overall maintenance of the campground. Another negative observation was that the campsites were "hard to get into because of the way they are situated," which could pose challenges for maneuvering vehicles and setting up camping equipment.

Key Features: Location, RV Hookups, and Potential Drawbacks:

The primary features of North Beach Campground are its advantageous location near Lake Champlain and downtown Burlington, coupled with the availability of full-service RV hookups. These aspects make it appealing for those who prioritize access to both natural recreation and urban conveniences, particularly RV travelers. However, the negative reviews highlight several significant drawbacks that local users should be aware of. The "crammed" campsites, poor maintenance (with trees, roots, rocks, and cigarette butts), difficult site access, potential for noise pollution from traffic, and concerns about staff responsiveness are all factors that could detract from the overall camping experience. The observation of the property being "a bit junky with random equipment parked haphazardly" and the presence of "junky cars rolling through" further contribute to a less than ideal aesthetic and atmosphere within the campground.

Observations on Safety and Surrounding Area:

One reviewer shared concerns about the surrounding urban environment, noting that "Burlington is a lot rougher of a town than expecting" and mentioning the frequent presence of "homeless people around frequently throughout the city." While these observations pertain to the broader Burlington area rather than solely the campground, they might influence a local user's overall perception and comfort level when staying in this location. The reviewer did state that the "campground was sufficient" despite these concerns about the city, suggesting that the campground itself provided a basic level of functionality.

Lack of Positive Feedback on Natural Beauty Within the Campground:

Unlike some other campgrounds, the reviews for North Beach Campground do not emphasize the natural beauty or tranquility of the camping area itself. Instead, the focus is primarily on the convenience of its location relative to the lake and the city. The description of sites being filled with trees, roots, and rocks, and the "crammed" nature of the camping, suggests that the immediate environment of the campsites might not be particularly scenic or conducive to a peaceful nature retreat. Local users prioritizing a beautiful and well-maintained natural setting within the campground might find North Beach Campground less appealing based on these reviews.

Absence of Promotional Information and the Need for Direct Inquiry:

The provided reviews do not contain any information about promotional offers, discounts, or special rates for North Beach Campground. As a state park, it is possible that seasonal pricing or other standard state park fees apply. Local users interested in potential discounts for residents or for longer stays should contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers ((802) 862-0942 or +1 802-862-0942) or consult the official Vermont State Parks website for the most accurate and up-to-date information on pricing and any available promotions. Inquiring about site-specific details or requesting information about quieter areas of the campground might also be beneficial.

Objective Summary for Local Campers:

North Beach Campground in Burlington, VT, offers a prime location with immediate access to Lake Champlain and a short drive to downtown Burlington, along with the convenience of full-service RV hookups. These are significant advantages for those seeking a blend of outdoor and urban experiences. However, potential local users must also consider the concerns raised in the reviews regarding cramped and poorly maintained campsites, difficult site access, potential noise from traffic, and observations about the surrounding urban environment. The cleanliness of the bathrooms and the perceived lack of staff urgency are also points to note. While the location is undeniably convenient, the quality and atmosphere of the campground itself appear to be areas where improvements could be needed. Local campers should weigh the importance of location and RV amenities against the reported drawbacks when considering North Beach Campground for their next "camping near me" experience.

In Conclusion:

North Beach Campground's key selling points for local users are its proximity to Lake Champlain and downtown Burlington, as well as the availability of full-service RV hookups. If these factors are a top priority, the campground might be a suitable option despite the concerns raised in customer reviews. However, prospective visitors should be prepared for potentially crowded and unmaintained campsites with challenging access, possible noise issues, and consider the observations about the surrounding urban area. Contacting the campground directly for the most current information on site conditions, amenities, and any applicable fees or promotions is strongly recommended before making a reservation to ensure it aligns with your expectations for a "camping near me" experience.
