As a local user browsing the "camping near me" category, you're likely seeking a convenient and enjoyable outdoor experience. Otter Creek Campground, while having received mixed reviews, presents a potential option for those looking to immerse themselves in Vermont's natural beauty. Situated alongside a "beautiful canoeing stream," according to one reviewer, the location offers direct access to water-based activities. Imagine spending your days paddling along the serene Otter Creek, enjoying the peaceful sounds of nature and the picturesque Vermont landscape.
However, it's important to consider all aspects when making your decision. One past visitor mentioned an unpleasant experience at the store, citing a threat of trespassing for simply stopping by for a cold drink. This feedback suggests that interactions with staff might be inconsistent, and it's advisable to be mindful of campground rules and regulations upon arrival. It's always a good practice to clarify any questions or concerns you may have with the campground management beforehand to ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay.
Regarding the camping environment itself, reviews offer contrasting perspectives. One reviewer from the past fondly recalled spending several days at the campground between 1990 and 1996, highlighting "great memories." This positive sentiment suggests that Otter Creek Campground may have provided a pleasant experience for some visitors in the past. However, more recent feedback describes the camping areas as either being in an open field, potentially feeling hot during warmer months, or located in the woods, which were described as consistently damp. The reviewer also humorously noted that the wooded areas might dry out "if Vermont ever dries out," indicating a potentially persistent issue with moisture in shaded spots. If you prefer sunny, open campsites or drier, wooded areas, it would be wise to inquire about the specific characteristics of available sites when booking.
While specific details about services and features are not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, most campgrounds typically offer essential amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. These often include:
- Designated campsites for tents and potentially RVs. It's recommended to confirm the types of sites available and any size restrictions for RVs.
- Restroom facilities. The quality and cleanliness of these facilities can vary, so it might be helpful to inquire about their upkeep.
- Potable water sources. Access to clean drinking water is crucial for any camping trip.
- Waste disposal services. Proper disposal of trash helps maintain the cleanliness of the campground and the surrounding environment.
- Fire pits or designated areas for campfires. If you enjoy campfires, confirm if they are permitted and if firewood is available for purchase.
- Picnic tables at campsites. These provide a convenient space for meals and other outdoor activities.
Given its location alongside Otter Creek, it's highly probable that the campground offers opportunities for canoeing and potentially other water-related activities. If you are an avid paddler or enjoy being near the water, this could be a significant draw. However, as noted in the reviews, it's essential to be respectful of the campground's property and any rules regarding access to the creek.
Features that might further enhance your camping experience could include:
- A camp store: While one reviewer had a negative interaction at the store, the presence of a store on-site can be convenient for purchasing basic necessities, snacks, and drinks.
- Hiking trails nearby: Vermont is known for its beautiful trails, and Otter Creek Campground's location might offer access to local hiking opportunities. Inquire about trails within or near the campground.
- Fishing opportunities: Depending on the regulations and fish population in Otter Creek, fishing might be another recreational activity to enjoy.
- Wildlife viewing: Camping provides a chance to observe local wildlife in their natural habitat. Be sure to followLeave No Trace principles and maintain a safe distance from any animals you encounter.

Otter Creek Campground Reviews
Linda and I always tried to spend a few days here in 1990 through 1996. Retired now and living in coastal NC. Just checking to see if ur still open. Best of luck to you two. Great memories! Steve and Linda Smith
Jun 08, 2020 · steveThey are right on a beautiful canoeing stream yet complained when i stopped by the store to get a cold drink. Threatened to charge me with trespassing but when I asked if they didn't want my money they didn't like that idea either. Just not nice.Camping is either in a field and looks hot or in the woods and always looks damp....but it might dry out if Vermont ever dries out.
Aug 13, 2013 · Tom HartBeen going there since I was little, the camp ground owners are the greatest people, very nice they have a nice pool to cool off in the summer time, a nice getaway if you don't wanna spend too much, not to mention it's located in a beautiful state and the town of Danby
Sep 04, 2015 · Beardedstud_muffin 90Very quiet. Kinda run down. I can see how this was once a very nice campground, but it's but a shell of what it once was.
Jun 22, 2022 · Eric MongeurCalled to reserve a site for late July and was told very vulgarly they had no sites, not somewhere I'd go
