Panther Creek State Park Campground Introduce
Looking for a "camping near me" experience that combines natural beauty with convenient amenities and a variety of recreational opportunities? Panther Creek State Park Campground, located at 2010 Panther Creek Park Rd #13, Morristown, TN 37814, USA, offers a charming and well-maintained camping destination nestled within a Tennessee State Park. You can reach them at (423) 587-7046 or their mobile number +1 423-587-7046 for inquiries and reservations.
Panther Creek State Park Campground provides a picturesque setting surrounded by the natural beauty of East Tennessee. Backing up to the expansive Cherokee Reservoir and enveloped by the park's lush greenery, the campground offers a tranquil environment with minimal light pollution, perfect for stargazing and enjoying the peacefulness of nature. The park itself boasts an array of walking and horse-riding trails, providing ample opportunities for exploration and immersion in the outdoors. The presence of the Cherokee Reservoir also opens doors for boating and other water-related activities, making this campground an attractive option for those seeking "camping near me" with access to both land and water adventures.
While described as a "small, quaint campground," Panther Creek State Park Campground offers significant value for its nightly rate, which was reported at $47.50. The campground features a single loop situated on a hill, with paved asphalt pads for campsites, each surrounded by grassy areas. All campsites are back-in and equipped with full hookups, including 50 and 30 amp electrical service. Most sites may require some leveling blocks to ensure stability. Each campsite also includes a picnic table, a grill, and a fire ring, providing the essentials for outdoor cooking and enjoying a campfire under the stars. While propane fill is not available on-site, a Tractor Supply store is conveniently located about 4.5 miles away for those needing to replenish their supply.
Navigating the campground loop with larger recreational vehicles may present some challenges, particularly when the campground is full, due to limited overflow parking. However, there are a few campsites that can accommodate larger rigs. The layout of the campground, being a single loop on a hill, naturally results in some campsites offering more space than others. Within the loop, campers will find two picnic pavilions, each housing bathhouses for added convenience.
One of the standout features of Panther Creek State Park Campground is the exceptional quality of its bathroom facilities. The campground offers nine individual bathrooms, each equipped with a large shower and air conditioning that automatically activates upon entry. These bathrooms are meticulously cleaned daily, as evidenced by the positive reviews highlighting their cleanliness and pleasant smell. This commitment to hygiene significantly enhances the "camping near me" experience, providing a comfortable and well-maintained amenity for all campers.
For added convenience, a dump station is located near the ranger station and camp store, with a nominal fee of $5 for non-campers. A dumpster is also easily accessible at the front of the park entrance for waste disposal. Laundry facilities are available, with two washers and two dryers (one set at each bathhouse), at a cost of $2.00 per wash or dry.
While the large pool within the state park is unfortunately permanently closed, Panther Creek State Park offers a wide range of other recreational amenities. In addition to the walking and horse-riding trails, visitors can enjoy basketball, volleyball, tennis, and a frisbee golf course. A boat access point to the Cherokee Reservoir is also available for those wishing to explore the water.
Panther Creek State Park Campground is also a dog-friendly destination. While there is no designated off-leash area or pet waste pickup stations within the campground itself, the park offers plenty of trails and green spaces for walking dogs. Trash cans are conveniently located at the pavilions for disposing of pet waste bags.
A small camp store operates during afternoon and early evening hours, offering a few essential items. For more extensive shopping needs, a Walmart is located just 3.5 miles away, providing easy access to groceries and other supplies. While one reviewer noted limited interaction with the camp staff due to online reservations and payment, they observed staff actively cleaning and mowing around the area, describing them as pleasant and approachable. This suggests a well-maintained campground with a friendly and helpful staff presence.
The availability of internet access is another notable feature. The campground offers Wi-Fi with speeds of approximately 18 Mbps download and 3.9 Mbps upload. For those seeking faster or more reliable connectivity, Starlink was tested with impressive speeds of 86 Mbps download and 3.75 Mbps upload. Verizon cellular service was also tested, yielding speeds of 19.7 Mbps download and 0.8 Mbps upload. This range of connectivity options allows campers to stay connected if needed while still enjoying the natural surroundings.
In summary, Panther Creek State Park Campground provides a valuable "camping near me" experience in a scenic location with a range of amenities. Its proximity to Cherokee Reservoir and numerous park trails, combined with clean and well-maintained facilities, makes it an attractive option for various types of campers. While maneuvering large rigs may require some caution, the full hookups, clean bathrooms, and peaceful environment contribute to a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Panther Creek State Park Campground Reviews
General Impression:Small, quaint campground with plenty of green room but limited access for big rigs.Cost $47.50Value: 4 This State Park packs a lot of value for the nightly rate.Campground: Some of the campsites are tight even for microvan parking. There are a few that accommodate large rigs; however, the loop can be a little tricky to maneuver through when the campground is full due to limited overflow parking. The campground is one loop situated on a hill with trails into the park area and 2 picnic pavilions with bathhouses inside the loop. Because of the layout, some of the campsites naturally have more room than others.Campsite # 34Campsites asphalt pads with grass surrounding them. Because we made our reservations online and paid ahead we were able to go directly to our campsite and set up. But we saw staff cleaning and mowing around the area and they seemed pleasant and approachable.
Jun 28, 2024 · TodayIsOurAdventureGreat campground with some excellent hiking trails. Bathrooms are nice and clean. We will be back.
Sep 08, 2024 · Jason BlaylockI made this my basecamp when I did some motorcycling riding in the smoky mountains. This is a nice full service campground.I was tent camping and if you are tent camping I would suggest getting the site that has the tent pad back in the woods from the main site, This site has a tent pad next to the parking pad and then a second tent pad a little short hike within the woodsThe only reason I suggest this is that you have plenty of shade versus the other sites.Nice shower and laundry rooms. This place is more of a rv campground than a tent campground but is is a very nice campground.
Nov 12, 2024 · Eric RobertsDid remote camping just didn't realize that it was that far of a walk to the sites. When hiking with the dog and a friend and we really enjoyed it just have to really understand where the trails are.
Nov 05, 2024 · David MohlerBeautiful area. Unfortunately, we only stayed one night.Sites are very decent, all sizes but only a few are full hook-up; water, elec AND sewer. Only about 50 sites total, 9 I think w/sewer.Office employees & the parks Ranger were sorta standoffish upon our arrival. Not really any type of greeting. Ranger didnt speak at all. Also, they didn't ask the usual questions. "What size our RV was, how many vehicles, if we needed full hook-up, etc..."They just weren't welcoming or informative per what we're used to. I had to ask for pretty much everything. Maybe they'd had one of those days, who knows! Or, maybe they thought I knew already....¯_(ツ)_/¯Didnt realize until after we were assigned our site that they even had sites w/sewer hook-up.We travel full-time for work, just over 5 yrs now, and while this worked out for a single night, normally it would not; spouses' jobs are sometimes lengthy/long term.More & more State Parks tho are adding or increasing full hook-ups which is awesome but most still only allow about 10 days max for a stay. Some have special circumstances, just have to inquire.Still, Park is about 20min off hwy which is convenient. A real gem with hiking trails of all types, and spacious grounds that look to be extremely well-kept.We'll visit again. Retirement is just around the corner. 😉
