As you explore "camping near me," Peaceful Valley Campsite offers the allure of a potentially relaxing experience with beautiful mountain views. However, it is crucial to also consider the reported drawbacks concerning the campsite's layout, weather susceptibility, and the condition of the facilities.
The Environment and Scenic Views:
One reviewer described their experience as "phenomenal & relaxing" and specifically praised the location as "breathtaking," particularly in the mornings when viewing the mountains and clouds. This suggests that Peaceful Valley Campsite is situated in an area of significant natural beauty, offering picturesque views that can contribute to a sense of peace and tranquility. The surrounding mountains likely provide a scenic backdrop for camping enthusiasts.
However, another reviewer described the campsite as a "large (or, rather long) open space," which may have implications for shade and exposure to the elements. This open layout could be beneficial for those who prefer unobstructed views and a sense of spaciousness, but it also comes with potential downsides, as noted in the reviews.
Services and Facilities:
The reviews provide limited information about the specific services and facilities offered at Peaceful Valley Campsite. The following points can be gleaned from the feedback:
- Staff Presence: One reviewer noted that the staff "stayed away to give you privacy yet they are around to let you know you are safe." This suggests a balance between guest privacy and a sense of security provided by the staff's availability.
- Porta Potties: Porta potties are mentioned as being "what you expect," implying a basic level of portable toilet facilities.
- Permanent Bathrooms: The permanent bathrooms are described negatively as a "disaster," with reports of being "dirty" and having "a floater" in every toilet. This is a significant concern raised by one of the reviewers regarding the hygiene and maintenance of these facilities.
The absence of information regarding other common campground amenities, such as water hookups, electric hookups, fire pits, picnic tables, or recreational areas, makes it difficult to provide a comprehensive overview of the services available.
Features and Potential Drawbacks:
Based on the experiences shared by the reviewers, Peaceful Valley Campsite presents both appealing features and potential drawbacks that local users should consider:
- Relaxing Atmosphere (Potentially): One reviewer's positive experience highlights the potential for a relaxing getaway, particularly appreciating the scenic beauty.
- Breathtaking Mountain Views: The location offers the opportunity to enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains, especially in the mornings.
- Privacy and Security (Reported): The staff is described as providing privacy while ensuring a sense of safety.
- Exposure to Heat in Summer: The "large open space" layout reportedly gets "scorching hot" on summer days, which could make tent camping uncomfortable without air conditioning (typically found in RVs).
- Susceptibility to Rain: One reviewer experienced heavy rain during two separate visits, resulting in tents filling with water and the need to sleep in a car. This suggests potential drainage issues or campsite suitability for heavy rainfall.
- Poor Condition of Permanent Bathrooms: The negative description of the permanent bathrooms as dirty and unsanitary is a significant concern for hygiene and comfort.
The stark contrast between the positive feedback regarding the scenery and the negative feedback concerning the campsite conditions and facilities creates a complex picture for potential visitors.
The Local Environment of Downsville, NY:
Peaceful Valley Campsite is located in Downsville, New York, which is situated in the Catskill Mountains region. This area is known for its natural beauty, including rolling hills, forests, and rivers. The East Branch Delaware River is nearby, offering opportunities for fishing and other water-based activities. The Catskills region is a popular destination for outdoor recreation, including hiking, camping, and exploring charming small towns.
Local users considering Peaceful Valley Campsite might also be interested in exploring the surrounding natural areas and attractions that the Catskills region has to offer. However, the reviews provided focus primarily on the campsite itself rather than the broader local environment.
Objective Assessment:
Peaceful Valley Campsite offers the potential for a relaxing experience with "breathtaking" mountain views in Downsville, NY. The staff is reported to respect privacy while providing a sense of security. However, significant drawbacks have also been reported, including the campsite's open layout leading to extreme heat in summer, susceptibility to flooding during heavy rain, and notably poor conditions of the permanent bathrooms. These negative aspects could significantly impact the comfort and overall experience of camping at this location.
Local users should carefully weigh the potential for scenic beauty and a relaxing atmosphere against the reported issues with the campsite's environmental characteristics and the state of its facilities. The starkly contrasting reviews suggest that individual experiences may vary significantly depending on weather conditions and personal tolerance for the reported drawbacks.
Promotional Information:
The provided reviews do not contain any promotional information, such as special rates, seasonal offers, or specific amenities being highlighted by the campground management. Local users interested in learning more about pricing, availability, or any ongoing promotions should contact Peaceful Valley Campsite directly using the provided phone numbers.
In conclusion, Peaceful Valley Campsite in Downsville, NY, offers the allure of scenic mountain views and a potentially relaxing atmosphere. Contacting the campground directly for more information and considering these potential drawbacks is recommended before making a reservation.

Peaceful Valley Campsite Reviews
What a phenomenal & relaxing experience with the family. The location is breathtaking especially in the mornings when you look up into the mountains & see the clouds & just reminisce on how blessed we are to be alive. Thank you to all the staff! They stayed away to give you privacy yet they are around to let you know you are safe!
Aug 05, 2024 · CheckgullyThe campsite is a large (or, rather long) open space. On summer days it gets scorching hot unless you plan to spend all day in an RV with AC. I've been here two years and both times it was raining heavily. All the tents were full of water (we had to sleep in the car). While porta potties were what you expect, the permanent bathrooms were a disaster: dirty and every toilet had a floater. On top of that, the owner is a rude crazy b#&ch. So there is that.
Jun 27, 2024 · Alfred Zh.I’ve been coming to peaceful valley for 12 years now and I can definitely say that the name speaks for its self !!Beautiful views and a well kept campground makes it all the better .Staff has always been helpful through the years and has gone out of their way to accommodate my family and I !Thank you to Ernie and Lori always !Jessie Concepcion and family
Jun 24, 2024 · Jessie ConcepcionDo you and your family a favor and move on to any other campsite.1. The staff (if you can find them) are rude and want nothing to do with you or any issues you may come across.2. The cabins are basically from 1784 and in rough shape. I'm all for a vintage setting, but leaks and the smell like something died is a bit over the top.3.The guy in charge who tramples around like your presence is bothering him, completely lacks manners and acts like you and your family aren't even there. We didn't expect them to be overly social but at least acknowledge when someone waves or says hello.4. This is not the establishment you want to visit if your expecting hot water with your showers. So yes it costs 25cents for cold showers.5.I blame myself partly because I had an idea what we were in for right after the gate closed and we checked in. But you live and learn and this is one place that will never have to worry about getting our business again.
Oct 23, 2023 · William SchreinerThe view at the campsite is beautiful but it stops there. The owner Arnie is as nasty/rude as they come, if he says the grass is blue then it’s blue, far from a businessman..unless your a seasonal RV camper that’s been there for 20 years and kisses his A$$ he can careless about you or your questions / concerns.. the store up front is open whenever they feel like opening there’s no actual business hours.. the walkie talkie they have hanging there to contact them is useless since they barely ever answer to the radio..I normally don’t write reviews but I’m telling you stay away from this place..there’s plenty other beautiful campgrounds in the Catskills for RV”s and tenters to go to that have a lot more to offer.. BELIEVE me when I tell you the way the owner Arnie talks to people is disgusting.. i spoke to a few seasonal campers who felt the same way and said he inherited the property/business otherwise this guy wouldn’t make it 2 days outside of his campsite
