Roscoe Campsites Introduce
Located at 2179 Old Rte 17 in Roscoe, New York, Roscoe Campsites offers a "camping near me" option situated in a potentially beautiful location. However, recent reviews present a concerning picture of the campground, highlighting significant issues with the condition of rental campers, noise levels, and a lack of privacy, despite the scenic riverfront setting. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on the available feedback to help local users make a well-informed decision. As you search for "camping near me" in the Roscoe area, Roscoe Campsites is located in a town known for its charm and proximity to hiking opportunities. While the location by the river is a noted positive, potential guests should be aware of several serious issues reported by recent visitors regarding the quality of the camping experience, especially considering the price.
The Environment and Location (Potential vs. Reality):
One positive aspect mentioned is the "beautiful location" of the RV sites by the river. This suggests that Roscoe Campsites has the potential to offer a serene and picturesque camping experience with waterfront access. The sound of the river and the natural surroundings could contribute to a relaxing atmosphere. Roscoe itself is described as a "very cute town" with "lots of nearby hiking opportunities," making the campground a potentially convenient base for exploring the local area's natural beauty.
However, the experience of enjoying this beautiful location was significantly hampered for one reviewer due to a lack of privacy. They reported "people and kids constantly walking and running through our campsite," even while trying to relax by the campfire. This intrusion detracted from the hoped-for tranquility of the riverfront setting.
Services and Facilities (Reported Issues):
Recent reviews paint a concerning picture of the services and facilities at Roscoe Campsites, particularly regarding the rental campers:
- Disrepair of Rental Campers: Multiple issues were reported with the condition of the assigned campers. These included broken blinds, caved-in vents, and broken side doors with no screens, leading to an influx of flies and other insects.
- Sewer Smell: A significant problem encountered was a persistent sewer smell emanating from the RV, which worsened over time and necessitated a move to a different camper in the rain.
- Second Camper Also in Disrepair: The second RV, while newer, also had a broken side door with no screen. Additionally, the electric fireplace emitted a strong smell of mouse urine, rendering it unusable.
- Campground Store Selling Toy Cap Guns: The campground store sells toy cap guns, which reportedly led to constant "blasting" noises day and night until 10 PM, and plastic debris scattered throughout the grounds, disrupting the peace and quiet.
- Friendly Staff (Limited Positive): On the positive side, the staff, particularly the woman at the camp store and an employee named Kylie, were described as "very nice" and tried to be accommodating. However, their efforts were ultimately overshadowed by the significant issues with the accommodations and environment.
Information regarding other standard campground amenities, such as the availability and condition of tent sites (despite a former tent camper's positive recollection from many years prior), RV hookups (beyond the sewer issue), restrooms, laundry facilities, or recreational areas, is limited in these recent reviews.
Features and Significant Drawbacks:
While the riverfront location is a potential feature, the recent feedback highlights several significant drawbacks that local users must consider:
- High Cost Not Justified by Experience: One reviewer paid $1,000 for three nights and felt it was a "major letdown" due to the conditions, indicating that the price does not match the quality of the experience provided.
- Lack of Privacy at Campsites: The issue of people constantly walking through campsites severely detracts from the potential for a relaxing and private getaway, especially for those seeking tranquility by the river.
- Significant Disrepair of Rental Units: The multiple reports of broken and unsanitary conditions in the rental campers (both the initial and the replacement) are major concerns regarding the maintenance and quality of accommodations.
- Noise Pollution from Toy Cap Guns: The sale of toy cap guns in the campground store leading to incessant noise throughout the day and evening creates a chaotic and disruptive environment, contrary to the peace typically sought during camping.
- Insect Issues: Broken screens on doors led to problems with flies and other insects inside the rental units.
- Potential for Unpleasant Odors: The sewer smell experienced in one RV is a serious issue affecting comfort and hygiene.
The overall impression from the recent reviews is that Roscoe Campsites is in need of significant maintenance and improvements to justify its pricing and provide a satisfactory camping experience. The positive aspects of the location are overshadowed by the numerous reported problems with the accommodations and the environment.
The Local Environment of Roscoe, NY:
Roscoe, NY, is known as "Trout Town USA" due to its location at the confluence of the Beaver Kill and Willowemoc Creek, both renowned trout fishing streams. The town is situated in the western Catskill Mountains and is surrounded by natural beauty, offering opportunities for fishing, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors. The Delaware River is also nearby. The reviewer's comment about the town being "very cute" and having "lots of nearby hiking opportunities" highlights the appeal of the Roscoe area for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
However, the negative experiences reported at Roscoe Campsites suggest that while the surrounding area may be attractive, the campground itself might not be the ideal base for enjoying it, at least in its current reported condition.
Objective Assessment:
Roscoe Campsites benefits from a potentially beautiful location by the river in a charming town known for its outdoor activities. However, recent guest feedback reveals significant concerns about the disrepair of rental campers, including broken amenities, insect problems, and unpleasant odors. Additionally, a lack of privacy at campsites and noise issues from toy cap guns sold on-site detract from the peaceful experience one might expect from a riverside campground. While the staff is mentioned as friendly, their efforts appear insufficient to compensate for the overall poor conditions and high cost reported by at least one recent visitor.
Local users searching for "camping near me" in Roscoe should be aware of these serious issues. The positive aspects of the location and the surrounding town may be appealing, but the reported state of the campground itself raises significant red flags. Potential guests should consider whether the scenic location outweighs the potential for uncomfortable and disruptive conditions, especially given the reported high price.
Promotional Information:
The provided reviews do not contain any promotional information or special offers from Roscoe Campsites. The focus of the feedback is on the actual experiences of recent guests, both positive (regarding the location and staff friendliness) and overwhelmingly negative (regarding the condition of the accommodations and the environment). Local users interested in learning about pricing, availability, or any potential improvements or promotions should contact Roscoe Campsites directly using the provided phone numbers. However, given the strong negative feedback regarding the value for money, it would be prudent to inquire specifically about the current condition of the rental units and any measures being taken to address the reported issues with noise and privacy before making a reservation.
In conclusion, while Roscoe Campsites boasts a potentially beautiful riverfront location in a charming town with nearby hiking, recent reviews indicate significant problems with the disrepair of rental campers, lack of privacy, and noise pollution. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully consider these reported issues and perhaps seek more up-to-date information or alternative campgrounds in the Roscoe area before booking a stay at Roscoe Campsites.

Roscoe Campsites Reviews
Beautiful campground. Unfortunately it's gotten away from traditional camping the rates have gone through the roof. I tented there for 20 years until it was sold and the yuppies took over. Always had a great experience there even during high water fishing.
Mar 14, 2025 · Tim GeremiaOur recent stay at this campground was far from what we expected, especially for the $1,000 we paid for three nights. When we arrived, the camper we were assigned was in general disrepair: blinds were broken, vents caved in, and the side door was broken and had no screen which let in flies and other insects. Things got worse when our entire RV started to smell like a sewer. At first, we were given some blue liquid to pour down the toilet, but the problem got worse. Eventually, we had to move all of our things to a different RV in the middle of a rainstorm.Unfortunately, while the second RV we were moved to was newer, it was also in disrepair, with the side door broken and no screen as well. When we tried to turn on the electric fireplace, a very strong smell of mouse urine came from the vent, so we had to turn it off and plug the vent with towels. One bright spot was the beautiful location of our RV by the river, which had the potential to be really peaceful. Unfortunately, it was hard to enjoy with people and kids constantly walking and running through our campsite, even while we were trying to relax by the campfire. It felt intrusive and took away from the tranquility we were hoping for.Adding to the frustration, the campground store sells toy cap guns that every kid seemed to have. The sound of blasting continued day and night until 10 PM, and resulted in plastic debris from the toy guns all over the ground. It made for a noisy and chaotic experience, far from the peace and quiet we had envisioned. On the positive side, the staff, especially the woman at the camp store and Kylie, were very nice and tried to accommodate us as best they could. However, given the conditions and lack of compensation, this campground was a major letdown. Maintenance is clearly needed, and the price does not match the experience they provide. This is particularly unfortunate because Roscoe is a very cute town with lots of nearby hiking opportunities, but there is a lack of campgrounds and other places to stay. We had high hopes for this serene getaway, but it turned out to be quite stressful.
Sep 24, 2024 · Ginny LeitnerLove this family trip so much we went back to same cabin the following summer. My family really loved fishing from our porch and jumping down into the brook. Hospital cabins and staff are hard working and polite. Most of camp ground is free of poison ivy, oak & sumac. There are several eels at night and cool to watch. Note to parents when near boulders along water there are an abundance of water snakes so be very mindful. Kids loved the playground too!!
Jun 16, 2024 · EKR MamabearGreat campground with friendly helpful staff. We had a riverside site behind the cabins with a great concrete patio. The shower and bathroom facilities were super clean. Great wifi signal and the floating in the river was serene. Definitely our new favorite park!
Jul 26, 2024 · Lisa JuanisGreat place! My little girl had a blast! She loved sleeping in a wagon and feeding the alpacas. The manager was so kind, even lending me a bottle opener and helping me get a fire going. We're coming again.
