Pilgrim Lake Camp Grounds Introduce
For local users in New Jersey and the surrounding areas seeking a delightful "camping near me" experience, Pilgrim Lake Camp Grounds, located at 940 Stage Rd, New Gretna, NJ 08224, offers a picturesque lakeside setting with a reputation for friendly service. Based on available information, including customer reviews, this campground presents a charming option for tent campers and those looking to explore the natural beauty of the region, with some considerations for RV and trailer owners.
The environment of Pilgrim Lake Camp Grounds is a significant draw, as highlighted by customer feedback describing it as "beautiful" and "set on a lake." This lakeside location provides a tranquil and scenic backdrop for a camping getaway. The lake itself, while noted as "small but pretty," offers opportunities for relaxation and activities such as canoeing, with rentals reportedly available. The campsites are described as "wooded and spacious," suggesting a natural and private feel for campers seeking immersion in nature. The presence of trees provides shade and contributes to a serene atmosphere. Beyond the campground itself, its location in New Gretna, New Jersey, offers proximity to various natural attractions. Reviewers mention being "close to parks to hike or kayak in," indicating access to nearby trails and waterways for outdoor adventures. The campground is also conveniently located "not too far from towns to do some exploring," offering a balance between natural retreat and access to local amenities and points of interest. Furthermore, its proximity to the Jersey Shore, mentioned in a review, expands the recreational possibilities for those willing to take a short drive. The overall environment of Pilgrim Lake Camp Grounds promises a blend of lakeside tranquility and access to the broader natural and recreational offerings of the region.
In terms of services, Pilgrim Lake Camp Grounds appears to prioritize a welcoming and accommodating atmosphere, as evidenced by the review stating the owners were "the nicest people and super accommodating." This suggests a personal touch and a willingness to assist campers. While specific details about amenities are not exhaustively listed, we can infer certain services based on typical campground offerings and the reviews. Tent camping is explicitly mentioned as a viable option. The availability of canoe rentals indicates a service catering to enjoying the lake. The mention of "sites" implies designated camping spots, likely equipped with basic necessities such as fire rings and picnic tables, although this would need confirmation. For facilities, one can generally expect restroom and potable water access at a campground. Given the mention of RVs, it's likely that some sites offer electrical hookups, although a reviewer advises RV owners to inquire about size limitations due to the campground being "smaller." The campground's setting also suggests the potential for waste disposal services. While not explicitly stated, the presence of a lake might imply certain regulations or guidelines for lake use and safety. The friendly and accommodating nature of the owners suggests they would likely provide information and assistance to ensure a pleasant stay for all guests.
The features of Pilgrim Lake Camp Grounds contribute to its unique appeal. The primary feature is undoubtedly its location on a lake, offering waterfront views and the opportunity for canoeing. The "wooded and spacious" campsites provide a sense of privacy and immersion in nature, a desirable feature for many campers. The smaller size of the campground, while a consideration for larger RVs, could be seen as a feature for those seeking a more intimate and less crowded camping experience. The proximity to hiking and kayaking opportunities in nearby parks caters to outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore beyond the campground itself. Its location not too far from towns allows for convenient access to supplies, restaurants, and local culture. The mention of a "great brewery about 20 min away" highlights a potential local attraction for adult campers. The presence of a "beautiful bike path (albeit along a main road)" offers another recreational option for those who enjoy cycling. The campground is also described as "a good campground for a family," suggesting features or an atmosphere that is welcoming to children and family activities. However, a significant feature highlighted in a review is the challenging nature of navigating the roads within the campground, particularly for larger vehicles and trailers. The "VERY narrow and heavily wooded" roads with "no easy turns" and overhanging brush and small trees are a crucial consideration for those with RVs or trailers, potentially leading to difficulties getting into and out of sites. This "adventure" might be appealing to some but a significant drawback for others.

Inquiring about off-season rates or any discounts for longer stays might also be worthwhile. It's also advisable to ask about booking procedures and any deposit requirements. Given the positive reviews regarding the owners' friendliness, they would likely be the best source of information regarding any special offers or deals available at the time of booking. Checking local tourism websites or camping directories for the New Gretna area might also occasionally yield information on promotions, although direct contact with the campground is the most reliable approach.
In conclusion, Pilgrim Lake Camp Grounds in New Gretna, NJ, offers a beautiful lakeside environment with friendly service and convenient access to nearby natural attractions and towns, making it a compelling option for local users searching for "camping near me." Tent campers and those seeking a more intimate campground setting will likely find its wooded sites and lake access appealing. Pilgrim Lake Camp Grounds Reviews
They were the nicest people and super accommodating! We went tent camping and would definitely go again. They definitely have a smaller campground, so if you tend to go in your RV, I would see what size they can fit. You were also close to parks to hike or kayak in, and not too far from towns to do some exploring either. Definitely a good campground for a family.
May 29, 2023 · Hope HausmanThis is a beautiful campground, set on a lake with lovely owners. It’s easy to get to and close to the Jersey Shore. There is a great brewery about 20 min away. There’s a beautiful bike path (albeit along a main road) and miles to hike. The lake is small but pretty and they have canoes for rent. Sites are wooded and spacious. The setting is absolutely lovely. However, be prepared to spend 30 minutes getting into and out of your site. The roads within the campground are VERY narrow and heavily wooded. There are no easy turns and you maybe have some scars left on vehicle or trailer from the brush and or small trees that overhang the road. We are seasoned trailer pullers both with a boat and 31’ TT and it was challenging. But if you’re up for an adventure, you will love this campground.
Oct 12, 2020 · Kathy GelbmanWhat a terrific little retreat. The owners were quick to deliver firewood and open their store as needed for ice. The small beach and cedar lake are perfect for a hot day. Plenty of good sites for tent campers like us in addition to the full RV hookups. We will be back.
Jul 25, 2020 · David GorgosWonderful owners. Beautiful lake. I will be back.
Nov 03, 2024 · Richard HenrySo if you're looking for a peaceful relaxing camping experience, this place is very nice. But be warned. Aside from the lake/pond, there is absolutely nothing to do there. Not one amenitie. A little rough if you have children with you. NOTHING!! No cable, no wi-fi. For this they're rates are unbelievably expensive. They even charge extra for using the air conditioner in your unit. On top of that, they charge an outrageous fee for daily visitors and the additional vehicle. So to have two visitors and their car, it would have been an additional $75, just for the one day. I could understand that if they offered stuff to do there, but there's nothing. Overall, a very nice place. In my opinion the pricing is the only issue.
