Piney Grove Campground Introduce
For local users in Mississippi searching within the "camping near me" category, Piney Grove Campground, located on County Road 3550 in New Site, offers a potentially tranquil and naturally beautiful setting for an outdoor getaway. Based on recent customer feedback, the park is appreciated for its aesthetic appeal and quiet atmosphere, with ample shade provided by the surrounding trees. However, it's important for prospective visitors to be aware of certain environmental and facility conditions reported by some campers to ensure a well-prepared and enjoyable experience.
One reviewer described Piney Grove Campground as a "very pretty park" and expressed gratitude for its existence, indicating that the natural environment is a significant positive aspect of this location. The presence of "lots of shade," as mentioned by another visitor, suggests that the campground benefits from mature trees, providing a cooler and more comfortable camping experience, especially during warmer months. The "nice quiet campground" description further implies a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, potentially appealing to those seeking respite from more crowded or noisy locations.
However, one detailed review provided several points of concern that potential campers should consider. Firstly, it was noted that the showers lacked shower curtains. This absence of privacy in the shower facilities is a significant comfort issue that prospective visitors should be aware of when planning their stay.
Secondly, the reviewer reported a considerable presence of ticks and chiggers at site 21 during early spring, stating they encountered eight ticks and numerous chiggers. While acknowledging that encountering insects is a possibility when camping, the reviewer emphasized the potential for these pests to carry diseases and strongly advised bringing insect repellent. This feedback suggests that, at least during the early spring season, campers should take precautions against ticks and chiggers, particularly at certain sites within the campground. The reviewer also expressed concern about the potential for an even higher tick population during the summer months.
Another significant issue raised was the quality of the water from the spigot at some sites. The reviewer at site 21 described the water as "rusty water like you wouldn’t believe," which quickly clogged their water filter. They recommended that the campground address this issue by replacing the old, rusty spigots. Campers planning to use the campground's water supply should be aware of this potential problem and consider bringing their own water or a robust filtration system.
Finally, the review highlighted the terrain of many campsites, noting that "most sites have lots of steps and uneven ground." This was identified as potentially hazardous for small children, older individuals, and those with mobility issues or a tendency to be clumsy. Campers with such considerations should inquire about site accessibility and try to choose a site with more level ground if possible. The uneven terrain could also pose challenges for setting up camping equipment and navigating the campsite.
Despite these negative points, it's important to note that another reviewer who stayed for only one night reported "no issue with water or bugs," suggesting that these problems might be localized to certain sites or vary depending on the time of year. This contrasting experience underscores the importance of being prepared and potentially inquiring about current conditions when making a reservation.
Given the information available, Piney Grove Campground appears to be a park with natural beauty and a quiet ambiance that many local users might appreciate. The abundance of shade is a significant advantage, especially during the hot Mississippi summers. However, potential campers should be aware of the reported issues with the lack of shower curtains, the potential for ticks and chiggers (especially in early spring), the possibility of rusty water at some spigots, and the uneven terrain of many campsites.
To make the most of a visit to Piney Grove Campground, local users should take proactive steps. Bringing a reliable insect repellent is highly recommended, especially during the spring and summer months. If using the campground's water supply, carrying extra water or a high-quality water filter might be prudent. When booking a site, it would be wise to inquire about the terrain and request a more level site if needed, particularly for families with young children or individuals with mobility concerns. Additionally, bringing a shower curtain or a portable shower enclosure might address the lack of curtains in the shower facilities.
While there is no specific promotional information in the provided reviews, the inherent appeal of a "very pretty" and "nice quiet campground" with "lots of shade" serves as an attraction for those seeking a peaceful natural escape. The affordability of the campground is also implied by the lack of complaints about pricing, though specific rates are not mentioned.
In conclusion, Piney Grove Campground near New Site, MS, offers a potentially pleasant and quiet camping experience in a beautiful natural setting with ample shade. However, based on recent feedback, it is crucial for local users considering this campground to be aware of the reported issues regarding the absence of shower curtains, the potential for ticks and chiggers (especially in early spring), rusty water at some sites, and uneven terrain on many campsites. By taking necessary precautions and making informed inquiries when booking, visitors can mitigate these potential drawbacks and still enjoy the inherent beauty and tranquility of Piney Grove Campground. Piney Grove Campground Reviews
Very pretty park and I’m thankful to have such a park. A few negative things that must be mentioned for true feedback.*The showers had no shower curtain.*At site 21 we had a lot of ticks and chiggers. 8 ticks and many chiggers found on us. I know….you’re camping..get over it.. Those things carry LOTS of diseases!! Bring sprays!!*The water spigot puts out rusty water like you wouldn’t believe! Stopped up my filter quickly. They really need to change out the old rusty spigots.*Most sites have lots of steps and uneven ground. Treacherous for small children, older and or clumsy people. It’s very rare that I leave negative feedback. I think the ticks set me off! 😂 This is early spring. I would hate to see the tick population in the summer here!!Happy camping all!!

Apr 30, 2025 · Celeste Lewis-BradleyI grew up going to this campground. I love this area and the campground itself. I will say, do NOT get 104 and 105 unless you want baseballs and basketballs thrown at you from about 730 am until 1000 pm. Along with tons of unsupervised kids from aged 4 to 16 riding bikes through your site constantly. We even had a child take firewood from our camp. I have never been camping and felt that I needed to lock everything up until this trip. The lack of parental supervision was astonishing. There were little ones riding bicycles at dark unattended, with cars still on the road. I'm definitely not a helicopter mom but this was crazy. I feel sorry for the custodians, people were destroying the bathrooms leaving toilet paper every where. The custodians were doing their best to keep the place clean. We have been to numerous campgrounds that are kid friendly (we have kids) and we are still able to relax and have quiet time. Not this time. It's was ridiculous!
Oct 14, 2024 · Kristy DepriestI went to the beach. It was awesome. Clean. The people there were super friendly. The park itself seemed very well maintained. The beach is fairly shallow. But it is a nice size and beautiful sand. I like this place.
