Pleasant Lake Camping Area Introduce
For local users in the Alexander, Maine area who are searching for "camping near me," Pleasant Lake Camping Area, located at 371 Davis Rd, Alexander, ME 04694, USA, is a potential option to consider. They can be contacted at (207) 454-7467 or +1 207-454-7467 for inquiries. However, it is important for prospective visitors to be aware of some concerns raised in recent customer reviews to make an informed decision.
One reviewer specifically visited Pleasant Lake Camping Area with the intention of fishing. According to their account, they were informed at the gate by a staff member that there were "many areas to fish" and paid a $10 fee to enter. However, upon entering the park, their experience was quite different. They reported finding only "one little section off to the side for fishing that was full of people." Seeking clarification, they visited the visitor center and were told that fishing was only permitted in that single, crowded spot. Subsequently, they were advised to go back to the gate for a refund. Unfortunately, they were then informed at the gate that refunds were not provided, leaving them $10 out of pocket for what they felt was a misrepresentation of the fishing opportunities.
This experience highlights a potential discrepancy between the information provided at the entrance regarding fishing access and the reality within the campground. For local users who prioritize fishing as a key activity for their camping trip, it would be crucial to verify the extent and accessibility of fishing areas directly with the campground management before paying any entry fees. The review suggests that the fishing opportunities might be limited to a single, potentially crowded location, which may not meet the expectations of all anglers.
Another reviewer shared their experience of arriving at Pleasant Lake Camping Area at 5:30 PM on a weeknight in July, seeking a campsite. They reported that the store and office were closed at that time. Their impression of the campground was that it "just looked like a seasonal trailer park." Due to the lack of apparent camping facilities or available assistance, they chose to leave and ultimately camped across the border. This review raises concerns about the operational hours of the campground, particularly the accessibility of the office and store for late afternoon or evening arrivals during the peak season. It also suggests that the primary use of the area might be for seasonal trailers rather than short-term camping, which could influence the overall atmosphere and available amenities for transient campers.
This reviewer also provided a valuable tip for those traveling on Route 9 towards Canada and seeking camping. They mentioned that the Maine Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website lists several campsites at the Machias River that they found appealing but were not listed on Google. They regretted passing these sites before discovering them. This information, while not directly about Pleasant Lake Camping Area, is relevant for local users in the region who might be looking for alternative "camping near me" options along that route. It underscores the importance of exploring various resources beyond standard search engines when seeking camping locations, especially in more remote areas.
Based on these two recent reviews, Pleasant Lake Camping Area appears to have some potential drawbacks for local campers. The first review indicates possible issues with the accuracy of information provided regarding fishing opportunities and a lack of refunds for dissatisfied visitors. The second review suggests potential limitations for transient campers arriving in the late afternoon or early evening, with the office and store being closed and the area resembling a seasonal trailer park. These points should be carefully considered by local users when deciding if Pleasant Lake Camping Area aligns with their camping needs and expectations.
To provide a comprehensive introduction, more information would be needed about the environment surrounding Pleasant Lake Camping Area. The name suggests proximity to a "Pleasant Lake," which could offer scenic views and potentially other water-based activities (though the first review's focus on river fishing might indicate the primary water body of interest). Details about the types of campsites available (e.g., tent sites, RV hookups), other amenities offered (e.g., restrooms, showers, picnic areas, fire pits), and the general atmosphere of the campground would be beneficial for local users to make a well-informed decision.
Given the limited and somewhat negative feedback in the available reviews, it is difficult to highlight specific features or promotional information for Pleasant Lake Camping Area. The absence of positive comments about the environment or services, coupled with the issues raised regarding fishing access and operational hours, suggests that local users should approach this campground with caution and seek further clarification before making a booking or visiting. It would be prudent to contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about the current status of fishing areas, operational hours, available amenities, and their policies regarding refunds or discrepancies in information.
In conclusion, for local users searching for "camping near me" in Alexander, Maine, Pleasant Lake Camping Area is an option that requires careful consideration based on recent feedback. The reviews highlight potential issues with misrepresented fishing opportunities and closed facilities during certain hours, as well as an atmosphere that might be more geared towards seasonal residents. While the presence of a "Pleasant Lake" suggests potential for natural beauty, more information is needed to assess the overall environment and available services. Local campers are strongly advised to contact Pleasant Lake Camping Area directly to address the concerns raised in the reviews and to obtain accurate and up-to-date information before planning their visit.

Pleasant Lake Camping Area Reviews
My wife and I went here looking for a place to fish and the lady at the gate said there was many areas to fish but it was $10 so we paid. Then we entered the park to find out it was a different story they had one little section off to the side for fishing that was full of people. We went in the visitor center to find out where all we can fish and they told us only in that spot and to go to the gate to get a refund. We then went to the gate to find out they do not do refunds and now we are out $10 to drive around their parking lot.
Jun 08, 2024 · Rob EllisonRolled in at 5:30 on a weeknight in July looking for a campsite, store & office were closed and it just looked like a seasonal trailer park. We left and camped across the border. If you’re looking for camping on Rte 9 on your way to Canada, look at the Maine DNR site, there’s a handful of sites at the Machias River that sound awesome but aren’t listed on Google. Unfortunately we had passed them but half an hour or so by the time we saw them. The border crossing at Carla’s was totally empty at 6pm!
Jul 11, 2024 · Sarah FerrencyI’m giving this a 5-star review, if only for the experience we had with every person we met there…(and we only needed to stay one night, prior to crossing into Canada the following day!)We are car campers, and prefer a more woodsy, secluded camping environment, however, the friendliness and kind generosity of those regular patrons really made our night great - we got a first class tour of the premises, including the nearby outdoor art/sculpture park, and all the families of campers who offered us great conversation, stories, and samples of barbecue! Thanks to Charlene, Claudette, and friends for adding some fun to our vacation!
Aug 31, 2022 · Mia Ruiz-SalvadorCampground was rather neglected and rustic. Not one of our faborites. But the people we met we're great folks. Some have permanent set ups. Since we are totally self-contained and sufficient the amenities didn't matter since it was only for one night. Would stay there again in a pinch. Bill and Linda Lane, Montpelier, Va
Jul 25, 2019 · Linda LaneProbably the worst campground I've stayed at. I was motorcycle camping and stayed here. This is not a place for tent camping. I was stuck between two campers. The facilities were up to date, but were not cared for. There was no soap in the men's bathroom the entire time I was there. None of the hand dryers worked, and it was incredibly expensive to just camp for one night at $35
