Point Mallard Campground Introduce
Are you searching for a campground in the "camping near me" category within the Decatur, Alabama area? Point Mallard Campground, located at 2600 Point Mallard Dr SE C, Decatur, AL 35601, is an option to consider. Situated within the popular Point Mallard Park, this campground offers camping facilities with certain features that may appeal to local users. Based on recent customer reviews, the experience at Point Mallard Campground presents a mixed perspective, highlighting both positive aspects like spacious sites and clean facilities, alongside potential drawbacks such as noise levels and a perceived lack of on-site activities directly within the campground itself.
Spacious Campsites within Point Mallard Park
One consistent positive mentioned in the reviews is the size of the campsites at Point Mallard Campground. According to one guest, the sites do offer room, which can be a significant advantage for campers with larger tents, RVs, or those who appreciate having extra space around their camping area. This spaciousness can contribute to a more comfortable and less crowded feel compared to campgrounds with tighter layouts. Being located within Point Mallard Park, campers also have potential access to the broader amenities and environment of the park itself, although the direct integration of park activities with the campground seems to be a point of discussion among visitors.
Cleanliness of Bathrooms and Showers
Another positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the cleanliness of the campground's facilities. One guest specifically noted that the bathrooms and showers were "always clean," which is a crucial factor for many campers prioritizing hygiene and comfort during their stay. Well-maintained and clean restroom facilities can significantly enhance the overall camping experience and contribute to a more positive perception of the campground's management and upkeep.
Potential Issues with Noise and Supervision
In contrast to the positive feedback regarding site size and cleanliness, one reviewer expressed a significant concern about the high number of unsupervised children running around the campground. This guest reported instances of children constantly playing and even running through their campsite to the point where intervention was necessary. Such activity could potentially impact the peace and quiet that some campers seek. Additionally, the same reviewer mentioned an incident of a teenager using their campsite as a shortcut late in the evening, indicating potential issues with pedestrian traffic through camping areas and a lack of awareness or respect for campsite boundaries.
These experiences suggest that while the physical facilities might be adequate, the overall atmosphere could be affected by noise levels and the behavior of some guests, particularly concerning supervision of children and respect for campsite privacy. Local users considering Point Mallard Campground may want to weigh these potential drawbacks against the benefits of spacious sites and clean facilities.
Perceived Lack of On-Site Activities
One reviewer expressed a desire for more activities directly within the campground itself, given its location within Point Mallard Park. They specifically mentioned the absence of facilities like a basketball court or batting cage at the campground. This suggests that while the campground benefits from the broader park's location, it might lack specific recreational amenities within its immediate boundaries. Campers looking for a campground with dedicated on-site activities beyond the basic camping facilities might find Point Mallard Campground less equipped in this regard. However, the proximity to Point Mallard Park could potentially offer access to other activities within the larger park area, although this is not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews.
Environment and Location within Point Mallard Park
The reviews provide limited details about the specific environment of the campsites themselves, beyond mentioning that they are spacious. Being located within Point Mallard Park, the campground likely benefits from the park's overall environment, which typically includes green spaces and potentially access to other park features. However, the reviews do not offer specific descriptions of the natural surroundings of the campsites, such as shade, proximity to specific natural features (e.g., water bodies, trails), or the overall aesthetic appeal of the camping areas. Local users familiar with Point Mallard Park might have a general understanding of the environment, but those unfamiliar would need to seek more specific information.

Based on the provided reviews, the key services and features of Point Mallard Campground appear to include:

The reviews do not mention other common campground amenities such as hookups (electric, water, sewer), fire pits, picnic tables, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi access, or organized activities within the campground itself. The absence of these mentions does not necessarily mean they are not available, but local users should verify the specific services and features offered when contacting the campground.

Considerations for Different Types of Campers
Local users considering Point Mallard Campground should take into account the mixed feedback from the reviews. Families who value spacious sites and clean facilities might find it appealing. However, those particularly sensitive to noise or seeking a more controlled environment regarding children's activities might have reservations. Campers looking for a campground with numerous on-site recreational amenities might need to explore other options or consider the activities available within the broader Point Mallard Park as supplementary. It is crucial to align personal preferences and camping style with the characteristics of the campground as described by recent visitors.

Point Mallard Campground Reviews
Not the cleanest park I've ever seen, but the sites do have room. My main gripe is WAY too many children constantly running around not supervised. Some even continued to play running through my site until I finally had to tell them to stop. Also, at 9:15pm, went out to walk my dog for the last walk of the day and some teenage girl was casually strolling through my campsite. She was using it as a shortcut to the bathrooms I guess. No apology, no nothing, but a good scolding made sure she knew that she had done wrong. I think I'll make another choice if I do return to this area.
Apr 13, 2025 · RickReally nice and clean campground. Even bathrooms and showers were always clean! Only thing is I would've thought that being as it is Point mallard, I figured there would be more activities at the actual campground. Like maybe a basketball court or batting cage.
Mar 28, 2025 · EzroWe love staying at the point mallard campground, we have no complaints as far as site, hook ups or customer service goes. the complaint i do have however, is that it seems upper management doesn’t care for the scenery of the park. last time i was here was around may, instead of them using money to repave the roads or get concrete pads for the sites or even get better washers/dryers they have spent no telling how much buying junk to go in the campground office. It may as well be a boutique in there. In my opinion they should put things you’d need to camp in there not purses, wallets, lotions and such. it has taken up so much room you can’t even walk in there. i just think they could’ve spent their money better, on more important things than on a bunch of junk that no one will buy or even be able to afford for that matter.I am a 58 year old man so take this review as you will.
Nov 17, 2024 · Jose cuervoStopped for an overnight stay. This was a perfect stop. We were in the A loop. Full hookups, public restrooms were clean. The park was quiet. Very expansive and impressive surrounding grounds. Nice walking trails. We will be sure to stop in again.
Jul 06, 2024 · Jill MartinDo NOT recommend. Local suggested picking this Campground bc of proximity to water park for our child. Water Park is only open on weekends, however. We went on a weekday. This Campground was the dirtiest we came across our entire trip & the bathroom attendant was so EXTREMELY RUDE and MEAN. She asked us to get out of the bathroom in the morning bc she's busy cleaning & said if we absolutely needed to shower or pee to go do it at the dirty, bug infested, no A/C Pavillion bathrooms down the road. She said her name wasn't any of our damn business and we were more than welcome to report her to the office bc they won't give a damn. When I informed the office worker of this (she was extremely nice) she seemed scared to even tell the bathroom attendant lady anything at all as if this happens all the time. Said she didn't want her to "go off" on us even more. The woman was already extremely confrontational in front of my young daughter which I don't tolerate. So we leave the bathroom to avoid her and go to laundry room to grab our clothes that were finished while we showered & attendant then comes in there slamming all the machine doors around and starting her mess again back and forth! This is unacceptable customer service to paying campers or in any industry at all. Just ridiculous and pure mean. If you're having a bad day just say that or communicate to us in a non-hateful way that we are in your way cleaning. My kid was literally already done showering and I was just using the toilet . We were both brushing our teeth for 2 minutes and getting out anyway when this worker came in there on a rampage. I will be telling everyone to never go here! We had fabulous experiences at 5 other Campgrounds last week with zero complaints.
