Rend Lake Camp Ground Introduce
For local users seeking a picturesque "camping near me" experience centered around a large and beautiful lake, Rend Lake Camp Ground, located on Rend Lake Dam Rd, Whittington, IL 62897, USA, offers an attractive destination. Based on customer reviews, this campground, identified as being within the Wayne Fitzgerald Campground area of Rend Lake, provides a scenic environment with essential amenities and opportunities for various outdoor activities. The positive feedback highlights the beauty of the park and the lake, the availability of electric and water hookups, ample shady spots, and the popularity of fishing, making it a potentially ideal choice for families, anglers, and those simply looking to relax by the water.
The environment at Rend Lake Camp Ground is clearly a major highlight, with reviewers describing the park as "beautiful" and the lake as "huge with beautiful water." This suggests that campers can expect stunning views of Rend Lake and its surroundings. The presence of "many shady spots" indicates that the campground offers respite from the sun, making it comfortable during warmer months. The large size of Rend Lake itself provides a significant natural attraction, likely supporting a diverse ecosystem and offering a sense of spaciousness and tranquility. While one review mentions it being the Wayne Fitzgerald Campground, this likely refers to a specific section or area within the broader Rend Lake recreation area. The environment would likely include a mix of open areas providing lake access and wooded sections offering shade and privacy. The focus on fishing in the reviews also suggests the presence of healthy fish populations and accessible fishing spots along the lake's shores or potentially via boating. Overall, the environment promises a blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities centered around the impressive Rend Lake.
Based on the available reviews, Rend Lake Camp Ground offers several key services and amenities. The mention of "electric and water" hookups is significant, indicating that at least some campsites are equipped to accommodate RVs and campers requiring these utilities. The presence of a "trailer dump station" (mentioned in another review for what appears to be the same location under a slightly different context) further supports the RV-friendly nature of the campground. While one review notes that the bathroom at the camp does not have flushing toilets, it clarifies that there are "shower houses and flushing toilets right when you’re coming into the campground," suggesting that modern restroom facilities are available, albeit perhaps in a central location rather than directly at each campsite. The availability of potable water is also implied by the hookup mention. The well-maintained nature of the campground is suggested by the "beautiful park" comment. Additionally, the observation of "lots of kids and people with dogs" indicates a family-friendly and pet-friendly atmosphere. The fact that reservations were not required at the time of one review due to "corona" might be a temporary situation, so it's essential to verify the current reservation policy. Overall, the services appear to cater to both basic and more amenity-seeking campers, with a focus on providing essential utilities and clean facilities.
The features of Rend Lake Camp Ground are closely tied to its location and amenities. The primary feature is undoubtedly its access to the "huge lake with beautiful water," offering opportunities for boating, swimming, and fishing. The availability of electric and water hookups makes it a desirable location for RVers. The "many shady spots" are a significant comfort, especially during the Illinois summer. The presence of shower houses and flushing toilets, even if centrally located, is a key feature for maintaining hygiene and convenience. The family-friendly and dog-friendly atmosphere, as noted by one reviewer, makes it an inclusive destination for a wide range of campers. For those interested in fishing, the lake is clearly a major draw, with many visitors observed fishing. The potential lack of reservation requirements (though this needs to be verified for the current situation) could be a feature that appeals to those seeking more spontaneous getaways. The overall impression from the reviews is that Rend Lake Camp Ground offers a well-rounded camping experience with a focus on enjoying the natural beauty and recreational opportunities of Rend Lake in a comfortable and accommodating setting.

Rend Lake Camp Ground Reviews
Beautiful park! Electric and water, many shady spots, huge lake with beautiful water. We didn't fish, but many were fishing. Can't wait to go back!
Jul 18, 2024 · June B.This was rend lake at Wayne Fitzgerald campground. The bathroom at the camp does not have flushing toilets but there are shower houses and flushing toilets right when you’re coming into the campground. It’s a very nice place to stay and lots of kids and people with dogs. It’s also the only campground on rend lake where you don’t need a reservation because of corona.
Jun 08, 2020 · chrissy wintersWe camped here one night, would certainly have made it longer. No reservations allowed everyone access to great sites, with lake views or wooded inland sites. Sites were quiet, clean and spacious, friendly camp hosts, clean showers and restrooms. A lot of cute and less than cute wildlife. Easy access to the lake if you had kayaks.
Jul 04, 2019 · Milo ACheap camping with electric. First come first serve. You cannot make reservations here. Five big loops with campsites. Some are by the lake. All sites are $20 a night. Limit of 14 day stay although they may have more permanent sites if needed. Bathrooms available with flush toilets and showers. Pit toilets also available the closer you are to the lake. I would stay here overnight again. Camp host said they are never full and they always have availabilities.
