For local users seeking a unique and accommodating "camping near me" experience, particularly those who enjoy motorcycle touring or are exploring the scenic routes of Idaho, Riders Rest, located at 302 Main St, Elk City, ID 83525, USA, stands out as a highly recommended stop. You can reach them at (208) 717-1601 or +1 208-717-1601 for inquiries and bookings. Based on enthusiastic reviews from satisfied customers, Riders Rest offers a combination of essential amenities, a welcoming atmosphere, and features specifically tailored to the needs of travelers, making it more than just a typical campground.
The environment surrounding Riders Rest is intrinsically linked to its location in Elk City, Idaho, which is described as being "off the beaten path." This suggests a quieter, perhaps more rural setting, appealing to those looking for a respite from busier areas. Elk City itself is frequented by individuals who venture "WAY off the beaten path," as one reviewer noted, often in the context of exploring routes like the Idaho Backcountry Discovery Route (IDBDR) and the Magruder Corridor. The campground provides a welcoming haven after long journeys through potentially challenging and remote terrain. While the immediate surroundings of the campground within Elk City are not extensively detailed, the emphasis on it being a crucial stop for travelers implies it offers a sense of community and shared experience among those exploring the region's natural beauty.
The services at Riders Rest are consistently praised by visitors. Cleanliness is a key aspect, with "clean showers" specifically mentioned as a significant benefit, especially appreciated after a long day of riding or outdoor activities. The availability of WiFi is another valuable service, allowing travelers to stay connected, plan their next stages of their journey, or simply unwind with online entertainment. Firewood is also provided, enhancing the traditional camping experience with the opportunity for campfires. One reviewer specifically highlighted the presence of "well-maintained restrooms and showers," indicating a commitment to providing comfortable and hygienic facilities for guests. Furthermore, the campground offers a "fantastic self-check-in system," which proved particularly helpful for a traveler arriving late on a Saturday night when other establishments appeared closed. This demonstrates a thoughtful approach to accommodating guests arriving at various times.
The features of Riders Rest are particularly noteworthy for their consideration of travelers' needs. The campground offers "beautiful little camp sites" that provide a pleasant and private space to rest. Each campsite is equipped with a "sheltered picnic table," offering protection from the elements, whether it's shade on a hot day or cover during light rain. One specific campsite (#3) was highlighted as being equipped with both "power and water hookups," a significant convenience for those traveling with RVs or requiring electricity for charging devices. Additionally, the owner, Joshua, is repeatedly mentioned for his exceptional friendliness and helpfulness. One reviewer recounted how Joshua went "WAY beyond what I expected" to assist them in getting their motorcycle back on the road after a breakdown. Another praised him for operating a "welcoming sight" and maintaining a "nice little enclosed porch sort of affair" for gathering, relaxing, and seeking shelter from more severe weather. This enclosed porch serves as a communal space, fostering a sense of community among travelers. The presence of only "four private camp spots" suggests a more intimate and less crowded camping experience compared to larger campgrounds.
The positive reviews serve as strong promotional information for Riders Rest. The description as a "must stay for any motorcycle passing through Elk City" and the high recommendation for those riding the Idaho BDR are powerful endorsements from the target audience. The praise for the clean showers, WiFi, firewood, and sheltered picnic tables highlights the practical benefits of staying there. The exceptional assistance provided by the owner, Joshua, as recounted by a traveler facing a mechanical issue, speaks volumes about the level of care and hospitality offered. The welcoming atmosphere and the provision of power and water at some sites further enhance its appeal. The fact that a returning traveler would "stay at Riders Rest in a heartbeat" underscores the positive and memorable experiences it provides.
While the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, it's important to note that the scale of the campground is relatively small, with only four private camp spots mentioned. This suggests that availability might be limited, especially during peak travel seasons or events. Therefore, potential visitors should consider contacting Riders Rest in advance to inquire about reservations. The focus on motorcycle travelers also implies that the campground is well-suited to this specific demographic, but it is also clearly welcoming to other campers seeking a clean, comfortable, and friendly place to stay in the Elk City area.
In conclusion, Riders Rest offers a unique and highly praised "camping near me" experience in Elk City, Idaho. Its clean facilities, including showers and restrooms, along with amenities like WiFi, firewood, and sheltered picnic tables, cater to the needs of various travelers. The availability of power and water hookups at some sites adds further convenience. However, the standout feature appears to be the exceptional hospitality and helpfulness of the owner, Joshua, who goes above and beyond to ensure guests have a positive stay. The campground's location off the beaten path and its reputation as a must-stay for motorcycle riders on routes like the Idaho BDR make it a distinctive destination. While its small size might necessitate advance booking, the overwhelmingly positive feedback from visitors strongly recommends Riders Rest as a welcoming and reliable oasis for those exploring the scenic beauty of Idaho and seeking a memorable camping experience near them.

Riders Rest Reviews
A must stay for any motorcycle passing through Elk City. If you're riding the Idaho BDR, I highly recommend planning a stay. Clean showers, WiFi, firewood, and beautiful little camp sites with a sheltered picnic table.I roasted my clutch climbing Burnt Knob on Magruder, and limped my poor bike back to Elk City hoping to find a hotel room late on a Saturday night. Everything seemed closed but Rider's Rest had a fantastic self-check-in system that worked perfectly. In the morning, the owner came by and was super friendly and helpful. He went WAY beyond what I expected to help me get back on my way.
Sep 19, 2022 · Jerrett Charlie HutchingsElk City is off the beaten path. And, it's frequented by people who go WAY off the beaten path! In my case, I arrived in the late afternoon, after riding the 120-or-so miles of the Magruder Corridor from Conner, Montana.Riders Rest - operated by Joshua - was a welcoming sight! There are four private camp spots; mine (#3) was equipped with power and water, and just steps away from well-maintained restrooms and showers. My weather was hot and dry... there are covered picnic tables in each of the spots for shelter and shade, and Joshua maintains a nice little enclosed porch sort of affair, for gathering, relaxing, and/or taking refuge from more serious weather. This was only my second-ever stop in Elk City, the first being 8 years ago and headed over the Magruder in the opposite direction. If I find myself back there in the future, I'd stay at Riders Rest in a heartbeat!
Aug 14, 2021 · reafus53Stayed the night with a couple buddies to hit the magruder the next day. Owner was very accommodating. conveniently next door to the market. Showers are amazing! The awning area has plenty of places to hang all our motorcycle gear. Would stay here again if passing through.
Aug 06, 2024 · Tonsof BeesThis was my pre-determined stopping point on the Idaho BDR and it was a great end to a very fun trip. Josh was a great host and has the best espresso on the Idaho BDR. His facilities were nice and clean and the shower felt pretty darn good after being off grid for days. Everything is within walking distance and the grocery store has everything you need to replenish supplies. You might want to check availability and make reservations because he does book up. So cheers Josh, I enjoyed my stay.
Sep 05, 2022 · TSGreat little motorcycle camp for those riders who are starting/finishing the Magruder Corridor. $12 buys you a campsite, showers, access to laundry, refrigerator, ice, microwave, and sink. What a deal! Campsites are nice and shady too! Can walk to store or restaurant.
