River Edge RV Camp & Marina Introduce
For local users exploring the "camping near me" category, River Edge RV Camp & Marina, situated at 443 Riveredge Ln, Winfield, PA 17889, USA, presents a riverside location with marina facilities. However, a review of recent customer feedback reveals a stark contrast in experiences, which local users should carefully consider when making their camping plans.
One reviewer who traveled three hours to camp at River Edge RV Camp & Marina described it as "exactly what we were looking for" after finding other area campgrounds crowded. They praised the easy access to the water, the peaceful and quiet atmosphere, and the crystal-clear river with visible bottom. This positive account highlights the potential appeal of the campground's riverside location for local users seeking a less crowded and more tranquil environment. The reviewer also commended the owner, Donna, as "the nicest person I ever met in a campground," and enthusiastically rated their experience as "10 star not a five." This suggests that for some visitors, the hospitality and the natural setting of River Edge RV Camp & Marina can be highly satisfactory.
However, another, more detailed review paints a significantly different picture, indicating a decline in the campground's condition and management over time. This reviewer stated that what "used to be a nice fun place years ago" has deteriorated due to a "lack of ground maintenance" and the owner's alleged "need for personal involvement in guests’ lives." These are serious concerns that local users should be aware of.
This critical review included claims of "faulty electrical," "unusable water," and "general unsafe conditions where dead trees fall at any given time." The reviewer even suggested checking shared photos as evidence of these issues. If these claims are accurate, they represent significant safety and comfort concerns for any potential campers, especially local families with children.
Specific examples of the alleged faulty electrical system include "dangerous overloaded circuits" that reportedly caused several campers to have their electronics fried. The reviewer claimed that during a heatwave in 2018, some campsites were told they couldn't use their air conditioners due to overloaded circuits, resulting in very low voltage. The practice of using tied-together extension cords for power at tent sites was also mentioned as an unsafe practice.
The water quality was described as "100% unusable," with the reviewer stating that "the river water is actually cleaner than the tap water." Access to clean and safe water is a fundamental requirement for any campground, and such a claim should be a major point of concern for local users considering a stay here.
The review also raised issues with the owner's management style, alleging the creation of numerous rules and subsequent gossiping about guests, which the reviewer deemed unprofessional. Furthermore, the existence of a "small group that she uses as her spies" who allegedly have "immunity to the rules" suggests potential unfair treatment and a divisive atmosphere within the campground community.
Concerns about maintenance were further highlighted by the owner's alleged dismissive response to complaints ("what do you want me to do about it?"). The reviewer also mentioned paying significant fees for annual camping and a boat dock that was removed prematurely, indicating potential issues with fulfilling contractual obligations.
Despite being marketed as "family friendly," the playground was described as "unsafe for kids" due to a large pile of logs from chopped dead trees, which had reportedly become a habitat for snakes, raccoons, and rodents, located just feet from the play area. The reviewer even claimed that rats had eaten holes through guests' campers, raising serious health and safety concerns for local families.
The critical review concluded with a hope for new ownership to restore the campground to its former state, but expressed a current sentiment of hopelessness due to the alleged lack of care from the current owner once payment is received. The reviewer also lamented the loss of a once close-knit community due to the owner's alleged meddling and unprofessionalism.
Considering the "camping near me" category, River Edge RV Camp & Marina presents a complex picture based on these contrasting reviews. The riverside location and marina could be attractive features for local users interested in water activities and scenic views. However, the serious allegations of unsafe conditions, faulty utilities, poor maintenance, and unprofessional management in one of the reviews cannot be ignored. Local users should exercise extreme caution and consider these potential drawbacks before making a reservation.
Information regarding the environment is somewhat conflicting. One reviewer found it peaceful and quiet with clear water, suggesting a pleasant natural setting. However, the other review mentioned dead trees falling and an unsafe playground area with logs attracting pests, indicating potential environmental hazards and neglect.
Details about services are also limited and conflicting. One reviewer praised the easy access to water, while the other claimed the tap water was unusable. The presence of a marina suggests boat-related services might be available, but these are not detailed. The contrasting views on the owner's hospitality also make it difficult to assess the level of service provided.
Features mentioned include the riverside location, a marina, tent and RV sites (implied), and a playground (described as unsafe). The easy access to the water was highlighted as a positive by one reviewer. However, the negative review pointed out faulty electrical systems, unusable water, falling dead trees, and an unsafe playground as significant negative features.
Promotional information is absent in the provided reviews. Local users would need to contact River Edge RV Camp & Marina directly at (570) 524-0453 or +1 570-524-0453 to inquire about current rates, availability, and any special offers. However, given the serious allegations in one of the reviews, it would be prudent for potential local campers to seek further information and possibly recent independent assessments before booking a stay.
In conclusion, River Edge RV Camp & Marina in Winfield, PA, presents a mixed picture for local users in the "camping near me" category. While one reviewer had a highly positive experience, another detailed numerous serious concerns regarding safety, maintenance, utilities, and management. Local users should carefully weigh these contrasting perspectives and consider seeking additional information or recent reviews from other sources before deciding to camp at this location. The potential for a peaceful riverside stay might be overshadowed by the alleged unsafe conditions and poor management. Proceed with caution and due diligence if considering River Edge RV Camp & Marina for your local camping needs.

River Edge RV Camp & Marina Reviews
We traveled 3 hours to camp at this Campground we checked out all campgrounds in the area they were packed like sardines this is exactly what we were looking for for our vacation easy access to the water peaceful and quiet the water was crystal clear you could see right to the bottom we were right on the river I don't know what people's talking about Donna is the owner and is the nicest person I ever met in a campground I would give this campground at 10 star not a five
Sep 08, 2023 · david caprioThis used to be a nice fun place years ago, then the lack of ground maintenance and the owner’s need for personal involvement in guests’ lives has run the place into the ground. Check out our shared photos showing the faulty electrical, unusable water, and general unsafe conditions where dead trees fall at any given time, and you will see why you want to avoid this place at any cost. Faulty wires and dangerous overloaded circuits cause several campers to have their electronics fried. 12 camping sites were told they couldn’t use their air conditioners on the hottest days of 2018 because they had the circuits so overloaded you couldn’t get more than 80 volts out of a 120 volt line. They literally tie extension cords together and run them to the tent sites for power! The water quality is 100% unusable. The river water is actually cleaner than the tap water. The owner likes to make 100’s of rules and then travels from site to site gossiping about the other guests. Real professional way to run a business? The small group that she uses as her spies, however, has immunity to the rules and can do whatever they want. If you approach her with a maintenance issue or problems you are experiencing she throws her hands in the air and says “what do you want me to do about it?” We want you to fix it, that’s normally what a groundskeeper does especially when you are paying almost $1600 a year, plus $400 for a boat dock that was pulled out weeks earlier despite the stated camping CONTRACT dates. They market it as family friendly but the playground is unsafe for kids. Every time another dead tree falls they chop it up and dump it in the playground lot. There is a huge pile of logs which has become habitat for snakes, raccoons and rodents. This is literally a few feet from where your children are supposed to play. The rats have even eaten holes through guests campers! Hopefully in the near future an investor buys it out and restores it back to what it once was, but at this point the place is so far gone it seems hopeless, and the owner could care less once she gets your check. There used to be a lot of great people there and everyone treated each other like family, but those days are gone since the owner has basically chased everyone away with her personal meddling and lack of professionalism. Sad...
Nov 01, 2018 · Eric J BRiver edge campgroundDonna is a wonderful person, she's like a second mother to me and my family. People need to just give her a break. There are rules at every campground and those who do not follow them and yes we know who you are and you could have left but you chose not to, so thats on you. Everything was fixed. Needless to say could not ask for a better family then the ppl at the campground.
Dec 13, 2018 · Nancy JenkinsStayed there twice and found it to be nice. Went back a 3rd time with a reservation and found our site occupied. The owners said they were sorry and moved us to an open, soggy field with no amenities. I ask for a partial refund since we paid for full hookups. She refused and said if we didn't like it she would refund our money and we should just leave. We did and will never go back.
Aug 08, 2020 · Don JonesAlways love talking to Donna. Alot of the people there treat each other like family. When something happens, there are people ready to step in and lend a hand. Love spending time at this campground.
