Riverside Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Wells, Maine area with the allure of a riverside setting? Riverside Campground, located at 2295 Post Rd, Wells, ME 04090, USA, is situated in this coastal town. However, recent customer reviews present a critical perspective on several aspects of the campground that potential local users should carefully consider before making a reservation.
The environment of Riverside Campground is described as having "small camp areas" that are packed "SO TIGHTLY together." Multiple reviewers emphasize the lack of space between campsites, with one stating it "felt like the next person was sitting on top of us." This close proximity reportedly led at least four other potential campers to drive through, observe the site sizes, and leave without staying, indicating a significant concern about the lack of personal space and privacy. For those seeking a relaxing camping experience where they can comfortably spend time outside their tents or RVs, the reported tight spacing of sites at Riverside Campground may be a considerable drawback. While the campground is named "Riverside," one reviewer explicitly states that the "RIVER is promoted as an asset, in fact it’s DISGUSTING DIRTY, not even visible or accessible from the RIVER FRONT sites. VERY MISLEADING!" This suggests a potential disconnect between the campground's name and the actual experience of the river, which may not be the scenic or accessible feature that prospective campers might expect.
The services and amenities at Riverside Campground, based on the provided reviews, appear to be quite limited and potentially unsatisfactory for some campers. One reviewer noted that "the employees were not friendly," which could impact the overall guest experience and the level of assistance available. Furthermore, this reviewer stated, "There is no camp store there is nothing in the building but his desk. No wood to get for the fires." The absence of a camp store means that campers may need to travel elsewhere to purchase essential items, including firewood, which is a common requirement for many camping trips. The only positive service explicitly mentioned is that the campground "does have hot water," which is certainly a welcome amenity for showers or washing. However, the lack of a camp store and the reported unfriendliness of the staff are significant potential downsides. The second review does mention that the campground is "Safe, clean, friendly," which directly contradicts the first review regarding staff friendliness. This discrepancy highlights the importance of considering multiple perspectives, but the consistent complaint about tightly packed sites remains a significant factor.
The primary feature implied by the name, the "River," is unfortunately portrayed negatively in one of the reviews, being described as "disgusting dirty" and inaccessible even from riverside sites. This misrepresentation is a significant point of concern for potential campers who might be drawn to the campground based on its name. The tight spacing of the campsites is another key feature, but not a positive one, as it reportedly detracts from the ability to relax and enjoy the outdoor space. The lack of a camp store and the conflicting reports about staff friendliness are also notable features that could influence a camper's decision. The availability of hot water is a positive feature mentioned in one review, but it may not outweigh the other reported negatives for many campers. It's important for local users to understand these features, both positive and negative, to have a realistic expectation of what Riverside Campground offers.

When calling, it would be advisable to inquire specifically about the size and spacing of the campsites, the accessibility and condition of the river, the availability of a camp store or if firewood is sold on-site, and to get a sense of the current staff demeanor. Asking about any recent improvements or changes in management might also be helpful in understanding the conflicting feedback in the reviews. Direct communication will allow potential campers to address the negative points raised in the reviews and form their own informed opinion before booking a stay.
For local users searching for "camping near me" in Wells, Maine, Riverside Campground is an option to consider due to its location. However, the recent customer reviews raise significant concerns regarding the small and tightly packed campsites, a potentially misleading description of the river access and condition, and conflicting reports about the friendliness of the staff and the availability of basic amenities like a camp store and firewood. While one review mentions safety and cleanliness (though contradicts on friendliness), the overwhelming sentiment regarding the lack of space and the river experience should give potential campers pause. It is strongly recommended that interested individuals contact Riverside Campground directly to seek clarification and current information before making a reservation to ensure it meets their expectations for a "camping near me" experience in Wells, Maine.
In summary, based on recent customer reviews, Riverside Campground in Wells, ME, presents the following environment, services, and features:
- Environment: Reportedly characterized by "way too small of camp areas" packed "SO TIGHTLY together," leading to a lack of privacy. The river, despite the name, is described as "DISGUSTING DIRTY" and not easily accessible, even from riverfront sites.
- Services: Conflicting reports on staff friendliness (one negative, one positive). Lack of a camp store and firewood for sale on-site are noted in one review. Hot water is mentioned as a positive amenity.
- Features: Proximity to a river (though its condition and accessibility are questionable). Small and closely spaced campsites. Lack of on-site store and firewood. Hot water availability.
Due to the significant concerns raised in the customer reviews, local users are strongly encouraged to contact Riverside Campground directly at (207) 646-3145 or +1 207-646-3145 to obtain further clarification and current information before making a reservation for their "camping near me" needs in Wells, Maine.

Riverside Campground Reviews
Way too small of camp areas. Felt like the next person was sitting on top of us. I watched at least four other people driving and look how small the spots were and took off. We went there to relax not to have people two feet away from you. The employees were not friendly. There is no camp store there is nothing in the building but his desk. No wood to get for the fires. The only real good thing that I can say about this place is that it does have hot water.
Aug 29, 2024 · Kristy LefebvreThe RIVER is promoted as an asset, in fact it’s DISGUSTING DIRTY, not even visible or accessible from the RIVER FRONT sites. VERY MISLEADING! Also, I have never seen so many sites, packed SO TIGHTLY together. Not a place to hang outside. Safe, clean, friendly.
Jul 08, 2024 · Diane SmithThis campground has new owner and they have really tried hard to make things better. Buildings have been updated, playground has been updated, pool is well maintained. Many people come back year after year. We have been seasonal here for years and you can't beat the fact that the beach is literally a bike ride away, or that children can run around with other children and enjoy themselves. Well behaved dogs are allowed.
Aug 04, 2024 · manon menardI stayed here for about 10 days. The park is well maintained, everyone there is extremely friendly and welcoming. I will definitely stay here again when I find myself on the coast. I really enjoyed my stay here.
Jul 29, 2022 · Aaron TuckerThis is an RV park, a very small one but NOT a place to "camp." Drove 2 hours to this site, new site for my family of 4, we like traditional tent camping. Showed up after hours, (office closed) got our paperwork and drove 50-100ft to our camp site, almost drove past it cause it was so small. The sites are basically 20 feet wide by 16 feet deep. We brought 2 vehicles truck and SUV, and we could only park them on our site. Essentially, they give you a site the size of 2 parking spots, no privacy or space between you and the next tent. This is not a camp site or camping. They shouldn't even offer this kind of service they are not equipped for it. The plot sizes are deceptive they are not spaced out as you see in their information online. They provide what seems like the bottom of a steel 55 Gallon drum dug into the ground to make your fire. The picnic table is a nice touch, but that's its. The "river" is also not a river. It is an elongated pond. The water doesn't move. If it does, it's very slow and is only good for breeding bugs. Hyped up to sound like a place you could have privacy In the woods, play in a river, have everything you need, but it is NOT. I can't tell you much about anything else, we got there, saw this patch of grass they consider a camp site, and immediately started looking up hotels to stay at. Cost me another $500 on top of the fee to stay at this place which only refunds half. They can keep it. If I can convince you not to set up a tent at this place its worth the money. No pictures to busy trying to leave but truck me the place looks clean but this seems like money grab to rent a parking spot to camp on.
