RoundBottom hiker-biker Campground Introduce
For local users and those exploring the Great Allegheny Passage seeking "camping near me," RoundBottom Hiker-Biker Campground, located in Vanderbilt, PA (address: Great Allegheny Passage, Vanderbilt, PA 15486, USA), offers a unique trailside camping experience. You can reach them at (724) 872-5586 or +1 724-872-5586 for any inquiries.
The environment of RoundBottom Hiker-Biker Campground is notably situated along the Great Allegheny Passage, providing direct access to this renowned multi-use trail. Reviews indicate proximity to the Youghiogheny River ("views down at the Yough were really nice"), suggesting a potentially scenic setting. The trailside location caters specifically to hikers and bikers traversing the passage, offering a convenient overnight stop. One reviewer expressed gratitude for the shelter during a thunderstorm, highlighting the practical benefit of the provided structures in inclement weather.
In terms of services, RoundBottom appears to offer shelters for campers. One review mentions, "The shelters at RoundBottom are nice and large," and another was "very grateful to get my tent in the shelter." These shelters seem to be a key feature, providing cover and potentially a degree of security. Each shelter is also equipped with a picnic table, as noted: "Each shelter has a picnic table and many of the sites do as well." However, one camper pointed out that the picnic table at their shelter was in disrepair ("missing bolts and falling apart unfortunately"), indicating that the condition of amenities might vary.
Regarding water and sanitation, the information suggests some limitations. One reviewer stated, "There's a toilet but no water," while another mentioned, "The water well is non-potable, bring enough water with you." This implies that while a toilet facility is available, campers should not rely on the campground for potable water and should bring an adequate supply. The proximity to a river bridge is noted as "ideal for a quick wash + top up water bottles," although the potability of this river water is not mentioned and should be considered with caution. These details are crucial for hikers and bikers planning their overnight stay and managing their resources.
A notable, albeit negative, aspect mentioned in a review concerns the cleanliness of the bathroom facilities. One camper reported, "We noticed there were more bugs in the campground then elsewhere on the trail for some reason. It could be because the bathroom was overflowing with trash all over the floor plus many bags of trash behind the bathroom. The bathroom was unusable in the state it was in." This suggests a potential issue with waste management at the time of that review, which prospective visitors should be aware of. The reviewer even suggested a "pack it in and pack it out" approach might be better.
One less practical but perhaps amusing feature mentioned is the campground's name, with a reviewer commenting, "Can't have a name like that and not have a comical photo op." This hints at a potentially quirky or memorable aspect of the location, perhaps related to a bend in the trail or a physical feature of the area.
To summarize the features of RoundBottom Hiker-Biker Campground for those seeking "camping near me" along the Great Allegheny Passage: it offers shelters (described as "nice and large") with picnic tables, and potentially additional picnic tables at some sites. There is a toilet available, but campers must bring their own potable water as the well water is non-potable. The Youghiogheny River is nearby, offering scenic views and a non-potable water source for washing. However, recent feedback indicates potential issues with the cleanliness of the bathroom facilities and a higher concentration of bugs compared to other parts of the trail.
Given that this is primarily a hiker-biker campground along a trail, the services and amenities are likely geared towards the needs of individuals traveling by foot or bicycle. This might mean a focus on basic shelter and convenience for those on the move, rather than extensive recreational facilities. The trailside environment is the primary draw, offering a place to rest and recover while experiencing the Great Allegheny Passage.
For local users looking for a unique "camping near me" experience, particularly if they are interested in hiking or biking the Great Allegheny Passage, RoundBottom provides a convenient and potentially scenic overnight option. The shelters offer a degree of protection from the elements, which can be a significant advantage for trail travelers. However, it is essential to be prepared with an adequate water supply and to be aware of the reported issues with the bathroom facilities.

Oct 25, 2020 · Doug DoughertySimple camping on GAP trail (close to 100 miles mark) It’s not accessible by car. Water is not for drinking.
Apr 30, 2023 · Alexei TcherkassovSituated right off the trail, but not accessible by car, the campground areas and adirondacks were quite nice. The grounds seemed mostly well kept and the Yough is a stone throw away. As already noted elsewhere, the water is not potable. It had a metallic taste even after filtering. We arrived in mid November and the free firewood appeared to have been depleted. I think that the experience here for everyone would be improved if more folks would adhere to "leave no trace" principals.
Nov 13, 2023 · William ThompsonNice camp ground along the GAP trail. Contains 2 Adirondacks, 5 picnic tables and many tenting spots with fire rings. The pump here pumps non potable water.
