Gap Trail Campground LLC Reviews
Truly a piece of The Shire. I enjoyed the simplicity of the outdoors, while also having access to clean, comfortable facilities. They have tents in case you forgot to bring something to cover your gear. There are posts so you can hang a hammock. There is a beautiful view of the river. Multiple fire pits for campfires. A comfortable covered porch with places to relax and read. The bathrooms and showers were not only clean and well-maintained, but charming. As a Lord of the Rings fan, I greatly enjoyed all the hobbit-themed decor. I will be back!
Jul 28, 2024 · Sare McCurdyI cannot imagine a more pleasant stop on the GAP (or the Yough for that matter) than this place! The place just feels very welcoming and you do not want to leave! The owner, Frank, is a genuinely great host and will do anything you ask for. I live in San Diego, California, and make it a point to visit every summer.
May 01, 2025 · Dennis ThompsonI've ridden the length of the GAP three times now, most recently as part of a Detroit to DC ride. This campsite is easily the best I've been to in my life, and my favorite bikepacking stop of all time.Arrived after dark on a demanding 100 mile day that involved a flat tire, a mile's worth of vertical feet climbed, riding through thunderstorms in traffic north of Pittsburgh. Was delighted to arrive at such a beautiful campsite, and absolutely stunned to discover the electrical lights that allowed me to unpack the bike and make camp with ease. And thrilled to be able to wash off the bike with the handy bike wash, allowing me to lube the drivetrain to ready the bike for the next day's 117 miles to Cumberland. The story of this campsite is in the details, and all the meticulous work the owner has put in to make this such a delight. Thank you Frank for your hospitality, I'm looking forward to visiting again on many future trips!
Aug 10, 2024 · Ken GordonBiking the GAP and rode into campground close to 10pm. Showers were nice but now overly warm. Shampoo and soaps provided, nice kitchen area. Train across river keeps you company on a regular basis throughout the night.
Jul 17, 2024 · Stan TAmazing and unique camping experience. We got to the site on Friday night and had the place to ourselves. The covered area is super cozy and has a TV and nice chairs. It is a beautiful location right on the river. The bathrooms are unique and special as well. The shower is open on top so you can look at the stars while showering. Water never got super hot, but it's early in the season.
