Sacandaga Campground Introduce
For local users seeking a serene "camping near me" experience, Sacandaga Campground, located on NY-30 in Wells, NY 12190, USA, offers a tranquil retreat in the heart of the Adirondack region. With phone numbers (518) 924-4121 and +1 518-924-4121, this campground is noted for its relaxing environment, the soothing sounds of the nearby river, and exceptional opportunities for stargazing due to the lack of light pollution. Based on the available customer reviews, Sacandaga Campground provides a more traditional camping experience with basic amenities and a focus on the natural surroundings.
The environment of Sacandaga Campground is a significant draw for visitors. Situated in the Adirondacks, it is likely surrounded by the natural beauty of the region, including forests, and importantly, a river whose sound is consistently praised for its calming effect. One reviewer specifically mentioned that the sound of the river is so relaxing that it effectively drowns out any noise from other campers, contributing to a peaceful atmosphere. This suggests that the campground benefits from a natural sound barrier, enhancing the sense of tranquility and privacy for its guests. The proximity to the river may also offer opportunities for water-related activities, although this is not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews.
The services at Sacandaga Campground appear to be focused on providing the essentials for a comfortable, yet traditional, camping experience. One reviewer noted the availability of bathrooms with running water and hot showers, which are certainly appreciated amenities for those seeking a step up from very basic camping. Additionally, the campground provides garbage and recycling facilities, promoting cleanliness and environmental responsibility. It is explicitly mentioned that the campsites do not offer hookups for water, electricity, or sewer. This suggests that Sacandaga Campground is best suited for tent campers and RVers who are self-sufficient in terms of power and water, or those who prefer a more rustic camping style. For those who value a connection with nature and a quieter experience over the conveniences of full hookups, this feature is considered a positive aspect by at least one reviewer.
One of the standout features of Sacandaga Campground, as highlighted by a visitor, is the bridge located within the campground. This bridge is described as a "great place to stargaze" due to the absence of light pollution. The Adirondack region is known for its dark night skies, making it an ideal location for astronomy enthusiasts. The lack of artificial light at Sacandaga Campground further enhances this experience, offering campers the opportunity to observe the stars, planets, and possibly even the Milky Way with clarity. This feature adds a unique and memorable element to the camping experience, connecting guests with the natural beauty of the night sky.
While the overall experience at Sacandaga Campground seems positive, one reviewer did mention a minor challenge related to navigating the campground roads with a larger travel trailer. They noted that their 24-foot travel trailer had some difficulty passing between two trees on either side of the B-loop road. Although they felt this issue was only worth a "half star" deduction, it is something for potential visitors with larger RVs or trailers to be aware of. The reviewer also expressed gratitude to the families camping nearby who helped them out, indicating a sense of community among the campers.
The reviews provided do not contain any specific promotional information, such as discounts for local residents, seasonal offers, or special packages. To learn about any such promotions, local users would need to contact Sacandaga Campground directly using the provided phone numbers or check if they have a website or listings on camping reservation platforms where such information might be available.
In conclusion, Sacandaga Campground in Wells, NY, offers a pleasant and tranquil "camping near me" option for those seeking a more traditional camping experience in the Adirondacks. Its key features include a relaxing environment enhanced by the sound of a nearby river, basic yet appreciated amenities like running water and hot showers, and exceptional stargazing opportunities due to minimal light pollution. While the lack of hookups at campsites may not appeal to all RVers, it contributes to the campground's quiet and natural ambiance. Potential visitors with larger travel trailers should be mindful of possible tight spots on some of the campground roads. Overall, Sacandaga Campground appears to be a favorite among those who appreciate the beauty and serenity of the Adirondacks and a camping experience focused on nature and simplicity. Local users looking for a peaceful escape with stunning night skies should consider Sacandaga Campground for their next outdoor adventure. Sacandaga Campground Reviews
We had a pleasant stay! We checked in late afternoon on Friday, July 26, 2024 and checked out Sunday, July 28, 2024 and had a quiet day and a half with the travel trailer. My only quibble is that our 24 foot travel trailer had a bit of a struggle getting past two trees on either side of the B-loop road. I think that's only worth a half star, but the system doesn't allow for partials. Many thanks to the families camping on that curve for helping us out!
Aug 01, 2024 · Lance GundersenThis is one of my all time favorite campgrounds! The sound of the river is so relaxing and makes it so you never hear any other campers. The bridge is a great place to stargaze with no light pollution. Bathrooms with running water, hot showers, and garbage/recycling facilities available but nothing fancy and no hookups at the campsites, which is fine with me!
Aug 18, 2024 · Sarah MHeaven on earth!!! Beautiful scenery, friendly campers, and just all around spectacular!! Definitely one of my first favorite campgrounds I've been to so far. I absolutely recommend camping here.
May 27, 2024 · Amanda BouldenI come here every fall just to see the foliage. I have never camped here however I would still love to do so just because it’s a huge camp ground. It has a river nearby and a bridge with a little island with more campgrounds. It’s a peaceful place and the farther you go the less you here the traffic on the main road.
Dec 21, 2018 · Alexandria HolmesThis campground was beautiful. We got lucky with our sites and had this amazing spot by the river. Some sites are a bit smaller than others, so I highly recommend checking out the map to book a site you like. We had 139 and 138. If you are on the inside, it would be more difficult to access the river unless you knew or made friends with your neighbors. Campsites were clean and well maintained and perfect for our 1-2 tents and 1-2 cars. Plenty of room for campers on some sites and lots of trees for hammock hanging. We will definitely try to come back!
