Seashell

Youngstown, FL 32466, USA

4.0
Stayed here mid Sept of 2023. Actual site was not bad. It was clean, it had its own port-a-potty, a shelter with a picnic table and grill. There is a overlook built on the river and then a path leading down to the river where some stairs with railings are. I feel like it should be stated that this is several miles down dirt roads with several turns and ending on a one lane path with bushes growing right up to the road. Its sketchy when wet and you are a long way from civilization. The hurricane in 2018 pretty much leveled all the trees with the exception of a few. This particular site had 2 trees to give adequate shade, the others had none. The river was browned out from recent rains but some say it gets very clear from all the springs upstream. It was log jammed in several places and cannot be floated. - Mary Beth Hartsfield

Seashell Introduce

For local users searching for "camping near me" with a riverside setting, Seashell Campground, located in Youngstown, FL 32466, USA, offers a unique opportunity to camp directly on the Econfina Creek and with immediate access to the Florida National Scenic Trail. You can reach them at (850) 539-5999 or their mobile number +1 850-539-5999 for inquiries. This campground provides a more secluded and nature-focused experience, as indicated by its location and the amenities described by visitors.

Environment: Riverside Seclusion with Post-Hurricane Landscape

The environment of Seashell Campground is primarily defined by its location right on the Econfina Creek. One reviewer noted an overlook built on the river with a path leading down to the water via stairs with railings, suggesting direct access and potentially scenic views of the creek. However, it's important to be aware that reaching the campground involves traveling "several miles down dirt roads with several turns and ending on a one lane path with bushes growing right up to the road." This access route is described as "sketchy when wet" and feels "a long way from civilization," indicating a more remote and potentially challenging entry, especially in adverse weather conditions. The impact of the 2018 hurricane is also significant, having "pretty much leveled all the trees with the exception of a few." Consequently, shade may be limited, although one particular site mentioned had two trees providing adequate shade. The Econfina Creek itself was reported as "browned out from recent rains" during one visitor's stay, though it is said to become "very clear" due to upstream springs. The creek was also noted to be log-jammed in several places, making it unsuitable for floating.

Services: Basic Amenities in a Natural Setting

The services at Seashell Campground appear to be more basic, aligning with a more natural and potentially primitive camping experience. One reviewer mentioned that their site had its own port-a-potty, along with a shelter equipped with a picnic table and a grill. Another review specifically noted a "handicap enabled portapotty," suggesting that at least some facilities are accessible. The presence of these individual site amenities indicates a degree of self-sufficiency is expected from campers. While water and electrical hookups are not explicitly mentioned, the focus seems to be on providing essential shelter and sanitation. The description of the access road as mostly gravel at the entrance suggests some level of maintained infrastructure leading to the more challenging final stretch. The proximity to the Florida National Scenic Trail can also be considered a service or feature, providing immediate access to extensive hiking opportunities.

Features: Riverside Location, Trail Access, and Individual Site Amenities

The key features of Seashell Campground include its direct access to the Econfina Creek, its adjacency to the Florida National Scenic Trail, and the individual amenities provided at some sites. Being right on the creek offers opportunities for enjoying the waterfront, although the log jams may limit some water activities like floating. The immediate access to the Florida National Scenic Trail is a significant draw for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The provision of a private port-a-potty, a shelter with a picnic table, and a grill at least at some campsites enhances the comfort level compared to completely primitive camping. The potential for a quieter and more secluded camping experience, given its remote location, is another appealing feature for those looking to get away from more crowded campgrounds. However, the limited shade due to the hurricane damage and the challenging access road are also important characteristics to consider.

Promotional Information: Your Secluded Riverside Camping Adventure Near You

Looking for "camping near me" that offers a tranquil riverside experience and direct access to hiking trails? Seashell Campground in Youngstown, FL, might be your next adventure. Imagine setting up camp right on the Econfina Creek, with a private port-a-potty, a shelter with a picnic table, and a grill at your site. From your campsite, you can easily step onto the Florida National Scenic Trail for a hike. While the journey to get there involves a few miles on dirt roads, ending on a narrow, bush-lined path, the reward is a more secluded natural setting. Keep in mind that the area is still recovering from a past hurricane, which has reduced the tree cover, so shade might be limited at some sites. The Econfina Creek, while beautifully situated next to the campground with an overlook and access stairs, may have limited suitability for floating due to log jams and can appear browned after rains, though it's said to clear up. If you value a more off-the-beaten-path camping experience with direct creek access and hiking opportunities, Seashell Campground could be a great choice for "camping near me." Be prepared for a potentially rustic experience and limited shade in some areas.
