Shangri-La Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Lyndon Station, Wisconsin area? Shangri-La Campground, located at N1005 US Hwy 12 & 16, Lyndon Station, WI 53944, USA, offers a family-oriented camping experience with a range of options including RV sites and cabin rentals. You can reach them at (608) 408-0898 or their mobile number, +1 608-408-0898. Based on recent customer reviews, Shangri-La Campground has aspects that appeal to families, but also some areas that potential visitors should consider.
One reviewer who rented an RV site (site 333) noted that the "lot was nice" and equipped with hookups including a breaker box and water connection. Despite backing up to the main road (US Hwy 12 & 16), they found the campground to be "quiet after 10," suggesting that quiet hours are effectively enforced. This reviewer also highlighted that the campground is "definitely family oriented, and there is plenty of stuff for kids to do," indicating that the campground offers various activities and amenities designed to entertain children.
However, another reviewer who rented a cabin for a weekend stay expressed significant concerns. They mentioned the frequent enforcement of strict pool rules regarding activities like jumping and cannonballs, even when the pool was not crowded. According to this reviewer, children were told they would have to leave the pool for unintentional actions like falling in after a jump, which the family deemed acceptable under the circumstances. This suggests a potentially rigid enforcement of pool rules that might impact the enjoyment of families with active children.
The same reviewer also recounted an incident where a woman from the office allegedly called a parent to report that a child was "flipping off" an adult. This accusation turned out to be false, involving the wrong child and no such gesture occurring. This incident raises questions about the accuracy of reports and the communication between the campground staff and guests.
Furthermore, this reviewer reported a significant issue with mosquitoes, stating that the campground was "flooded" with them. Mosquitoes can severely detract from the outdoor experience, especially during warmer months in Wisconsin. Potential visitors might want to inquire about mosquito control measures or plan to bring ample insect repellent.
Finally, the cabin rental experience for this reviewer was also negative in terms of value. They paid $360 for a weekend cabin booked in advance and found it to offer "less than a hotel room" in terms of amenities and space. This suggests that the cabin rentals might be perceived as overpriced for what they offer, especially when compared to other accommodation options in the area, which is known as the "water park capital of the world," implying a range of lodging choices.
Considering the information from these reviews, Shangri-La Campground appears to be a family-oriented destination with activities for children, particularly appreciated by those staying in RV sites. The campground generally observes quiet hours, contributing to a peaceful environment in the evenings. However, potential visitors should be aware of potentially strict pool rules that might limit children's activities, the reported issue with a high mosquito population, and the possibility that cabin rentals might not offer the best value compared to other accommodations in the area.
The environment of Shangri-La Campground is located off US Hwy 12 & 16 in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin. This location provides accessibility but might also mean some noise from the highway, although one RV camper noted it was quiet after 10 PM. The fact that it's in the "water park capital of the world" suggests a tourist-heavy area with a variety of attractions and potentially a more commercialized environment compared to more remote campgrounds. The presence of mosquitoes, as mentioned by a reviewer, indicates that the local environment might be prone to these insects, especially during certain times of the year.
In terms of services and features, Shangri-La Campground offers RV sites with electric and water hookups. The presence of a pool is evident from the discussion about pool rules. The mention of cabin rentals indicates another type of accommodation available. The campground is described as "family oriented" with "plenty of stuff for kids to do," suggesting amenities or activities geared towards children, although the specifics are not detailed. The office is mentioned in the context of the phone call to a parent, indicating an on-site management presence.
The features that stand out are its family-friendly focus, the availability of RV sites with hookups, cabin rentals, and a pool. However, the strict enforcement of pool rules, the reported mosquito problem, and the perceived value of the cabin rentals are important considerations. Local users with RVs might find the nice lots and quiet evenings appealing. Families with young children should weigh the potential for restrictive pool rules against the availability of other kid-friendly activities.

Shangri-La Campground Reviews
For this place being the water park capital of the world, the amount of times children were told that they would have to leave for not running, not doing canon balls but falling into the pool because jumping and canon balls are not allowed, even if there are no other people to be bothered by it. Same with many other things that the kids did that ALL OF THE FAMILY deemed acceptable, they had an issue with. A woman from the office also called a parent to tell the parent that a child was flipping her, an adult off, turns out, it was not even the child accused and no adult was “flipped off” just ridiculousness for no reason. The campground was flooded with mosquitoes, I rented a cabin for the weekend and for the price, so far in advance, $360 for a cabin with less than a hotel room.
Aug 01, 2024 · Trisha SnyderWe rented RV site 333. It does back up to the main road. The lot was nice. Hookups have a breaker box and water hookup. Quiet campground after 10. This place is definitely family oriented, and there is plenty of stuff for kids to do.
Jun 03, 2024 · Allan BNice camping facility, mostly seasonal camping. But close to the race track and they were nice enough to activate the back gate for the weekend, to make it easier to get to the track. Lots of trees and some spots are tight to back in. 333 to 336 were easy to get in. Looks like a lot to do for the kids. (Edit/update) Dump station located at the back of property. Corners seem a little tight to get our 5th wheel back there. Also exiting from the site to the road, we had to pull past exit and backup the hill to make the exit. Like that it is gated, but no extra room. Inconvenient, not impossible,
Sep 24, 2023 · Jeff OmansI'm outside here at 11:45 pm and no issues with noise. There's the sound of a train in the distance but that's about it. It might get loud during racing season but I could sleep like a baby right now outside here.Located a few miles off the beaten path but still close enough to run into town. Full hookups and pull-thru sites a major plus. The neighbors all seem nice.I honestly feel that those complaining are the type of people that will complain that someone's sprinkler is inadvertently watering their lawn. The only reason I dropped a star (and should be more like 1/4 of a star) is because they close up shop too early in my opinion. At the end of the day, we plan on coming back.
Oct 02, 2023 · Rob Mugs (Mugs)It was a holiday weekend, so it was a bit busy. We brought our dog along as well and did experience some encounters with off leash dogs, which can be dangerous. Other than that, it was a great experience. While there, the weather was quite warm, so using the pool was great. The pool wasn't very busy either, which was surprising. Most people were at the pond.
