Sherburne County Camp Introduce
For local residents in the Big Lake, Minnesota area exploring 'camping near me', Sherburne County Camp, located at 16885 Day Use Rd, Big Lake, MN 55309, holds a significant place in the community, particularly due to its long-standing history as a youth camp associated with 4-H programs. While the provided reviews primarily reflect past experiences and a significant event in the camp's history, they offer valuable insights into its environment and its importance to the local community, especially in the context of youth development and outdoor experiences.
The environment of Sherburne County Camp, based on a heartfelt recollection from a former camper and counselor, was clearly conducive to positive growth and development. The reviewer, who "spent many of summers there," highlights its role as "a big part of growing up." This suggests a natural setting that fostered learning, camaraderie, and memorable experiences for young people. The fact that it was a recurring destination for summer activities underscores the appeal and suitability of its environment for youth camping and outdoor education.
In terms of services and features, while the reviews don't detail specific amenities like hookups or recreational facilities typically found in public campgrounds, the context of a 4-H camp implies the presence of infrastructure to support organized group camping and activities for youth. This would likely include communal sleeping areas (cabins or dorms), a central dining hall, program areas for various activities (arts and crafts, nature studies, etc.), and potentially outdoor recreational spaces. The mention of the reviewer also serving as a "camp counselor" indicates the presence of staff and structured programs aimed at youth development and supervision.
A significant event in the recent history of Sherburne County Camp, mentioned with "severe upset" by a reviewer, was its destruction by vandals who "burned it last year." This tragic incident undoubtedly had a profound impact on the local community, especially those who had fond memories and anticipated future use of the camp for youth programs. However, the review also offers a hopeful note, stating, "It will be nice to see it rebuilt and back this summer (2019)!" This indicates a community effort to restore this valuable resource, highlighting its importance and the anticipation of its return to operation.
Another brief review expresses a long-standing affection for the location, with the sentiment "Loved this place as a kid so proud its still here !!!!!" This reinforces the positive impact Sherburne County Camp has had on the lives of local youth over the years and the community's attachment to it. The same reviewer contrasts this positive feeling with a disappointment regarding "Lake Ann," suggesting that Sherburne County Camp might be associated with or located near Lake Ann, but the camp itself holds a more favorable place in their memories.
Considering the category of 'camping near me', Sherburne County Camp's primary function, based on the reviews, appears to be that of an organized youth camp rather than a public campground offering individual campsites for recreational campers. However, the rebuilding efforts mentioned in the 2019 timeframe might have led to changes in its facilities or potential for broader community use. Local residents interested in camping opportunities, especially those related to youth programs or potential future availability for general camping, would need to seek updated information from the contact details provided.
Given the historical context and the rebuilding efforts, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews aimed at attracting general campers. The focus is on the camp's past significance for youth and the community's hope for its revival. Any future promotional activities would likely be geared towards re-establishing its role in youth development and potentially informing the community about any expanded services or availability.
To obtain the most current information about Sherburne County Camp, including its current status after the rebuilding efforts mentioned in 2019, its availability for camping (whether for organized groups or potentially individual/family camping), and any programs or services it now offers, local users are strongly encouraged to contact them directly. Sherburne County Camp Reviews
Spent many of summers there as a 4-H camper and a few years as a camp counselor. Was a big part of growing up. I was severely upset when vandals burned it last year and ruined a great experience for a lot of youth! It will be nice to see it rebuilt and back this summer (2019)!
