Swan's Falls Campground and Canoe Access, situated at 198 Swans Falls Rd, Fryeburg, ME 04037, might be just the place. You can reach them at (207) 935-3395 or +1 207-935-3395. Based on customer reviews, this state park campground offers a beautiful setting on the Saco River, spacious campsites, and convenient access for canoeing and tubing.
Environment: Riverside Beauty on the Saco River
Swan's Falls Campground and Canoe Access boasts a "beautiful location with a sandy beach on the Saco River," according to one reviewer. This prime riverfront setting provides campers with direct access to the Saco River, enhancing their outdoor experience. The presence of a sandy beach suggests opportunities for swimming, sunbathing, and simply enjoying the riverside. The campground is also noted for its "sites are all plenty large and well spaced apart from each other," indicating a sense of privacy and ample room for campers to set up and relax. The natural environment along the Saco River in Fryeburg is likely to be scenic, with the river flowing through a potentially wooded or open landscape, contributing to a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere for campers.
The campground's location as a state park suggests a commitment to preserving the natural beauty of the area. The Saco River itself is a significant feature, known for its clear waters and sandy banks in parts, making it ideal for various recreational activities. The surrounding area of Fryeburg, Maine, is situated in western Maine, near the foothills of the White Mountains, which could offer additional scenic appeal to the region.
Services and Amenities: Basic Comforts in a Natural Setting
While one reviewer mentioned that the campground is "expensive" due to a per-person-per-night charging system ($20 per person per night), they also acknowledged that it is an "outstanding state park campground." In terms of facilities, the campground offers "5 clean outhouses for the 20 site campground," suggesting a reasonable ratio of restroom facilities to the number of campsites, and the cleanliness is a notable positive. Potable water is available in "2 different locations" within the campground, ensuring that campers have access to drinking water.
For basic needs and convenience, there is a "camp store" that stocks "all of the expected basic products." This would likely include essentials like snacks, toiletries, and perhaps some camping supplies. Firewood is also available for purchase at "$5 per bundle," making it easy for campers to enjoy campfires. The availability of canoe access is a key feature, catering to those who wish to paddle on the Saco River. Additionally, the option to "Tube Down River from Swan Falls Dam to Canal Bridge" is highlighted, with parking available for those bringing their own tubes. This suggests that the campground facilitates access to this popular river activity.
The fact that one visitor was "surprised to be one of only three groups in the entire campground" on the Friday night before the Fryeburg Fair might indicate that, at certain times, the campground offers a more secluded experience than one might expect, although this could vary depending on the season and local events.
Features and Activities: River Adventures and Relaxing Stays
The standout feature of Swan's Falls Campground and Canoe Access is its direct access to the Saco River. This allows for a variety of water-based activities, including canoeing, kayaking (as mentioned in the tubing review), and tubing. The presence of a sandy beach enhances the experience, providing a place to relax by the water. The option to tube down the river, with its "relaxing Trip" and "lots of Sandbars to Picnic on," is a significant draw for those looking to cool off on a hot summer day and enjoy the scenic views.
The spacious and well-spaced campsites contribute to a more comfortable and private camping experience compared to campgrounds with tightly packed sites. The availability of a camp store for basic necessities and firewood adds convenience. While the review focused on the river and campground amenities, the location in Fryeburg, Maine, might also offer proximity to other local attractions or natural areas worth exploring.
For those seeking a "shore stay" with river access, the reviewer felt that the somewhat higher price was justified by the overall pleasant experience and the quality of the location and amenities.

Swan's Falls Campground and Canoe Access Reviews
It's expensive, but other than that it's an outstanding state park campground! They charge $20 per person per night, instead of charging per site like most campgrounds. However, it has a beautiful location with a sandy beach on the Saco River and the sites are all plenty large and well spaced apart from each other. There are 5 clean outhouses for the 20 site campground and there is potable water available in 2 different locations. The camp store has all of the expected basic products and firewood is $5 per bundle. We stayed here the Friday night before the Fryeburg Fair, and we were surprised to be one of only three groups in the entire campground! It was a very pleasant place to stay, and I feel that it justified the somewhat higher price for a shore stay.
Sep 28, 2024 · Sam ShirleyWe just paid to park and Tube Down River from Swan Falls Dam to Canal Bridge. It’s a relaxing Trip with lots of Sandbars to Picnic on. We brought Our own $4 Tubes from Walmart and Mardens. Beautiful Views. Great way to get cool on a hot Summer Day. You can Canoe or Kayak from there too.
Aug 20, 2024 · Achille BelangerI absolutely love this campground not only is a very centrally located but there is very great officers that patrol the land and make sure all the bears and bobcats stay away on top of that there is a great package store right around the corner for anybody that wants to relax for the night. Just an FYI there is only one outhouse so I would highly recommend bringing commodes or buckets.
Sep 03, 2024 · Sarah BAbsolute worst people I have ever encountered. Dishonest; threatening; and fleece every cent they can. Went to river and were told it's too dangerous. There were no beaches; no where to camp. EVERY WORD A LIE. tricked us into paying for campground then at end of trip stole $20 per car saying we would be reimbursed because we had a camp site. Went to office it was closed. Old man just took the money and ran. Charged another person a 100 dollar "barge deposit" then close the office and no answer when it says they are open until 7pm. How can they close on a Saturday afternoon the busiest day of the week and most amount of people liability on campground. There needs to be leadership changes here to fix these issues.
Aug 13, 2023 · Tom PikeWe loved it here. So quiet and peaceful , the owner Mike was great treated us like family I would recommend this place to anyone. Safe for kids clean well taken care of land. The spots are separate and your not on top of each other you getAllot more privacy then most other camp grounds. Great prices $. You have access to the saco river a one minute walk from any camp site and it's right near the fairgrounds. We loved this peaceful trip and can't wait to go back again.
