Tahkenitch Campground Introduce
Welcome, local Oregon coast explorers! If you're searching for "camping near me" and are considering a getaway near Gardiner (address: 79750 US-101, Gardiner, OR 97441, USA), Tahkenitch Campground offers a potentially beautiful setting with convenient access to various attractions. However, recent feedback from fellow campers highlights some important considerations regarding campsite sizes and current amenities that prospective visitors should be aware of.
One of the primary draws of Tahkenitch Campground is its scenic environment. One reviewer described it as a "very beautiful campsite," suggesting that the natural surroundings are a significant asset. The name "Tahkenitch" itself is associated with Tahkenitch Lake and the surrounding Tahkenitch Creek, indicating a location likely rich in water features and natural beauty. This could include opportunities for lakeside activities, wildlife viewing, and enjoying the coastal landscape.
However, a recurring concern in the reviews pertains to the size of the campsites. One camper noted that the spots were "very small and barely fit a single car," expressing confusion about how the website might suggest accommodating up to eight people and two cars in one spot. This indicates that potential visitors should anticipate limited space within individual campsites, which could impact the setup of tents, gear storage, and parking arrangements. The same reviewer also mentioned that the campground feels "pretty packed in," with campers being "very close to your neighbors," suggesting a lack of privacy between sites.
Another significant issue raised by both reviewers concerns the restroom facilities. One camper pointed out a discrepancy between the website listing "running water and flush toilets" and the current reality, stating that these were "currently closed and have a portapotty." The second reviewer echoed this, noting that "restrooms failed" and that while there was a "vault toilet as a back up," it was initially "out of toilet paper until the port a potty arrived." This situation highlights a temporary or ongoing issue with the expected amenities, and campers should be prepared for the possibility of relying on portable toilets and should perhaps bring their own toilet paper and hand sanitizer to ensure comfort and hygiene. It would be prudent to contact the campground directly using the provided phone number: (541) 271-6000 or mobile phone: +1 541-271-6000 to inquire about the current status of the restroom facilities and whether the running water and flush toilets have been restored.
Despite these challenges, the location of Tahkenitch Campground offers "lots to do around the area," including "great swimming spots." This suggests that the campground provides convenient access to water bodies suitable for swimming, likely Tahkenitch Lake or perhaps nearby coastal beaches. The availability of swimming opportunities adds to the recreational appeal of the area, making it attractive for families and individuals looking to enjoy water-based activities during their camping trip.
Furthermore, one reviewer noted that Tahkenitch Campground is "Near Florence which is handy." Florence is a well-known coastal town in Oregon, offering a range of services, attractions, and amenities, including shops, restaurants, and recreational opportunities. The proximity to Florence adds a level of convenience for campers who might need to resupply, want to explore a local town, or are interested in other activities that Florence has to offer.
The second reviewer also mentioned that their specific site, "site 01," was small but had "it's own charm" and definitely only had room for one car. This reinforces the point about varying campsite sizes and setups within the campground. It suggests that while some sites might be particularly small, others might offer a unique character. However, the limitation of one car per site seems to be a consistent issue, which could be problematic for larger groups or those traveling with multiple vehicles.
For local users searching for "camping near me" who are drawn to the beauty of the Oregon coast and the allure of swimming opportunities, Tahkenitch Campground could be a viable option. However, it is crucial to be aware of the potential limitations regarding campsite size and the current situation with the restroom facilities. Coming prepared with extra supplies, including toilet paper and water for washing (given the uncertainty of running water), is advisable.
When considering a visit to Tahkenitch Campground, it would be beneficial to call the provided phone numbers to get the most up-to-date information on the restroom situation, inquire about the typical size and layout of different campsites, and clarify the parking arrangements, especially if you are traveling with more than one vehicle or a larger group. Asking if there are any campsite maps available online or if specific sites are recommended for certain group sizes or vehicle types could also be helpful in making a reservation.
While no specific promotional information was included in the reviews, it's always worth inquiring when you call about any seasonal discounts, local resident offers, or any ongoing improvements or updates to the campground facilities. Checking the campground's official website or any associated social media might also provide additional information or special deals.
In conclusion, Tahkenitch Campground near Gardiner offers a beautiful coastal camping experience with convenient access to swimming spots and the town of Florence. However, local users searching for "camping near me" should be prepared for potentially small campsites with limited parking and the current issues with the restroom facilities, which may involve relying on portable toilets. It is highly recommended to contact the campground directly for the latest information on amenities and to discuss campsite suitability for your specific needs before making a reservation. Despite these drawbacks, the natural beauty and the surrounding attractions might still make Tahkenitch Campground a worthwhile destination for a coastal camping adventure, provided you come prepared.

Tahkenitch Campground Reviews
Very beautiful campsite, though the spots were very small and barely fit a single car, I don't know how 8 people and two cars could fit into one spot. It's pretty packed in, you are very close to your neighbors. On the website they listed running water and flush toilets but currently they are closed and have a portapotty. Lots to do around the area, great swimming spots
Sep 07, 2020 · Samantha MeadNice place, our site was small, but had it's own charm (01). Definitely only room for one car. As others have noted, restrooms failed. There's a vault toilet as a back up, but that was out of toilet paper until the port a potty arrived. So come prepared. Sites vary widely in size and set up. Near Florence which is ghandy.
Aug 02, 2020 · Supra 510Picking the right site can be a little hit or miss. Sometimes you're literally connected to a group next to you. The trails are wonderful. Facilities are well kept. Picnic tables and fire pits are a little worn down but it appears they're in the process of updating them. There is road noise from Hwy 101. Beach access is nearby with several different activity options and the dunes are pretty incredible. I'd recommend to others but more so now that I have it scouted out.
Jul 13, 2020 · James DunningRustic camping spot just off the road. camp spots are all different. It is better to have a look at your site as some are right up to the edge of the campground road. No showers and the women's toilet was out, but they had outhouses that did not smell. There Is a great walk to the 2 mile hike to the dunes.
Jul 26, 2018 · Dust InI had a wonderful time here! I hiked the 3.5 mile that takes you to the beach and lake.. beautiful! Only complaint is how close it is to highway!
