Based on the positive feedback from numerous campers, Tom's Campground is characterized by its quiet atmosphere, friendly host, and beautiful natural surroundings, making it an ideal choice for those looking to escape the noise and crowds often found at more resort-style campgrounds. Its strategic location also offers convenient access to the popular Governor Dodge State Park.
The environment at Tom's Campground is consistently praised for its tranquility and natural beauty. One reviewer explicitly noted its "nice and quiet" ambiance, emphasizing the absence of disruptive elements like golf carts with loud speakers, which are common in more activity-focused campgrounds. The campground is situated in "rolling pasture land," which contributes to the scenic views and a more natural, less manicured feel. For tent campers, the sites located "up on the hill" are highlighted as being particularly "private and nice sized for a family," offering a sense of seclusion and ample space. These hillside sites also benefit from the absence of artificial lights, making them excellent for "star gazing," as one guest who stayed during the Perseid meteor showers can attest. Additionally, the campground features "several sites in an open area" that are well-suited for accommodating larger groups who wish to camp together. While the camper sites are described as looking "close together," the management thoughtfully avoids booking them side-by-side unless specifically requested, providing a greater sense of personal space. The overall environment at Tom's Campground fosters a peaceful and nature-oriented camping experience.

The host is consistently described as "friendly, helpful and accessible," indicating a personal touch and a commitment to guest satisfaction. Essential amenities such as "water and electric" hookups are available for RV campers, and a "dump station" is also provided for their convenience. For all campers, a bathhouse is accessible, although one reviewer noted that the "bathrooms need updating." However, they also mentioned that the facilities are "clean," which is a crucial aspect of campground services. The bathhouse features three stalls and two timed showers, with a helpful tip for those unfamiliar with camp showering to bring extra quarters. Notably, Tom's Campground demonstrates a commitment to environmental stewardship through its recycling program and care for the land. The campground's proximity, being "maybe 15 minutes from Governor Dodge State Park," is a significant service for those planning to visit the park, especially if the state park campgrounds are full.
The features of Tom's Campground cater to a variety of camping preferences. The availability of private and spacious tent sites on the hill, ideal for families and stargazers, is a unique feature. The separate open area designed for larger groups allows for communal camping experiences. The thoughtful spacing of camper sites provides a greater sense of privacy than the initial appearance might suggest. The provision of water and electric hookups and a dump station caters to the needs of RV travelers. The clean, albeit somewhat dated, bathhouse offers necessary facilities for all campers. The friendly and accessible host contributes significantly to the positive experience. The campground's location near Governor Dodge State Park expands the range of activities and attractions easily accessible to guests. Finally, the campground's commitment to recycling and land preservation appeals to environmentally conscious campers.

Tom's Campground Reviews
Tom's campground is one of our favorites. Nice and quiet. No golf carts driving around with speakers blaring like the party campgrounds. If you want a resort feel with tons of kids activities then this isn't the place for you.Tom's is maybe 15 minutes from Governor Dodge State Park so a great place to stay if Gov Dodge is full. While the camper sites look close together they rarely book people side by side unless requested. The tent sites up on the hill are private and nice sized for a family. No lights up there so are nice for star gazing (we have stayed there for the Perseod meteor showers). There are several sites in an open area that work good for a larger group. The bathrooms need updating but are clean though if you have a camper it doesn't matter.
Oct 30, 2024 · Bonnie TiedtWe've wanted to camp here for a long time and finally got the opportunity. We used to live a few miles away so we knew the beauty of the area. The host is friendly, helpful and accessible. The sites aren't totally level but, you're in rolling pasture land so that's to be expected. Water and electric, dump station is available. Bathhouse has 3 stalls and two timed showers, if you're not used to camp showering, have a few extra quarters along. Like that they recycle and care for the land as they do.
Oct 01, 2024 · R.M. ChristesenWe stayed there for a few months til we retired and went full time RVing and workcamping. Nice quiet park. Not a lot of amenities but not far from aces that do. Nice and clean.
Jun 20, 2024 · Mark RasmussenIf you enjoy dark starry nights and beautiful sunsets while camping, then this is definitely the place to go! This campground has a family vibe. Everyone is very friendly and we enjoy our stay every single year that we visit. The grounds are well kept and the bathrooms are very clean.
May 24, 2023 · Sarah Roath Zimmermann (smzimmy)Really great staff and good location right between several state parks.Found ourselves in a pinch after a different campground didn’t work out. And the hosts were kind enough to find us a spot. Very friendly, quiet at night, with a lot of space to spread yourself out for tent camping. Would highly recommend!
