Upper Six Mile Ponds Campground Introduce
For local users in search of "camping near me" that combines scenic beauty with opportunities for fishing and water recreation, Upper Six Mile Ponds Campground near Manti, Utah, offers an appealing destination. Based on available customer reviews, this location is not just a campground but also a spot for enjoyable day trips and offers a variety of activities centered around its picturesque ponds. This detailed introduction aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the environment, potential services, features, and important considerations for those planning a visit.
Location and Accessibility: Upper Six Mile Ponds Campground is located at Forest Rd 0047, Manti, UT 84642, USA. Access to the campground is via forest roads, specifically mentioned as either 6 Mile Canyon or 12 Mile Canyon. A crucial piece of information from a user review is that the road conditions can vary. While described as being in "decent condition," it is also noted that the road can become impassable when wet and during certain snowy periods of the year. The review suggests that most high-clearance vehicles should be able to make it to the campground under favorable conditions. Therefore, it is highly recommended to check local road conditions and weather forecasts, especially during spring thaw or periods of heavy precipitation, before planning your trip. The slightly remote location contributes to the area's natural charm and peaceful atmosphere.
The Natural Environment: User reviews highlight the beauty of the Upper Six Mile Ponds area. One reviewer simply stated it was "Very pretty," indicating an attractive natural setting. The presence of ponds suggests a landscape characterized by water features, likely surrounded by forest and potentially offering opportunities for observing local flora and fauna. The mention of using the outhouse implies some level of basic infrastructure within this natural environment. The overall impression is of a serene and picturesque location that invites outdoor enjoyment.
Services and Amenities: Information regarding specific services and amenities at Upper Six Mile Ponds Campground is limited based on the provided reviews. One reviewer mentioned using an "outhouse," which suggests the presence of at least this basic sanitation facility. However, there is no mention of other typical campground amenities such as designated campsites with picnic tables, fire pits, water sources, or trash disposal. Given this lack of information, it is prudent for visitors to be prepared for a more rustic experience. This means potentially needing to bring your own water, cooking equipment, portable seating or tables, and অবশ্যই a plan for responsible waste management (pack it in, pack it out). The focus seems to be more on the natural attractions and recreational opportunities rather than extensive campground facilities.
Features and Activities: Upper Six Mile Ponds Campground appears to be a hub for several outdoor activities. A significant feature is the presence of the ponds themselves, which are described as "fun" for floating on with canoes, kayaks, or stand-up paddleboards (SUPs). This suggests that visitors can enjoy leisurely paddling and exploring the ponds at their own pace. Additionally, the area is noted for its fishing opportunities. The ponds are reportedly stocked with Rainbow Trout, which are "fairly easy to catch" using either fly fishing or spin gear. This makes the location particularly appealing to anglers of various skill levels. One reviewer also mentioned seeing kids happily fishing from the bank, indicating that it's a family-friendly fishing spot. Beyond water-based activities, the surrounding area likely offers opportunities for hiking and enjoying the natural scenery, although this is not explicitly detailed in the reviews. The combination of still waters suitable for paddling and accessible fishing makes Upper Six Mile Ponds a versatile destination for a day trip or a camping excursion for those comfortable with more basic amenities.
Important Considerations and Promotional Information: While specific promotional offers are not mentioned in the provided information, the inherent appeal of Upper Six Mile Ponds Campground lies in its natural beauty and the variety of recreational activities it offers. For local users searching for "camping near me" with a focus on fishing and enjoying water activities in a scenic setting, this campground presents a compelling option. However, it is crucial to be aware of the potential limitations in terms of amenities and the variable road conditions. Always check the weather forecast and road conditions, especially if traveling during or after wet or snowy periods. Ensure your vehicle has sufficient clearance to navigate the forest roads. Be prepared for a rustic experience by bringing all necessary supplies and adhering to Leave No Trace principles to help preserve the beauty of this area. For the most up-to-date information on road conditions, fishing regulations, and any potential closures or advisories, it is recommended to contact the Manti-La Sal National Forest office at the provided phone number, (435) 637-2817 or +1 435-637-2817. Upper Six Mile Ponds Campground Reviews
This is a great spot to spend an afternoon and if you’ve got a canoe, kayak or SUP it makes for a fun pond to float on as well. Fairly easy to catch the planted Rainbow Trout either fly fishing or with spin gear. The road is in decent condition and most high clearance vehicles can make it there either via 6 mile Canyon or 12 mile Canyon though road can be impassible when wet and certain snowy times of the year!
Oct 20, 2020 · S MVery pretty. Just passed bye. Used the outhouse. Kids fishing from the bank seemed to be happy.
Jul 20, 2023 · Kari PrescottLooks beautiful but its a 40min drive in on a 4WD drive only track (okay near the start but has deep cuts where small streams run accross), I didn't make it there.
Jul 01, 2023 · Rachel AinsworthWe spent a couple nights here and it was beautiful. The best part of this campground is it's all first come first serve, no fees and tons of space. We seemingly had the entire mountain to ourselves. The dirt road is very well maintained and the campgrounds are also clean.
