Wakara Campground

Manti, UT 84642, USA

3.0
We rented the White Pine cabin for the weekend and since it was the “off season” (late march) they didn’t have staff there. That wouldn’t be a problem except that they obviously didn’t have anyone cleaning the cabins in between stays. The fridge and dining table were visibly dirty and I didn’t think to bring cleaning supplies so we just used baby wipes to clean everything up as best we could. If you’re not going to clean the cabins, couldn’t you at least leave some paper towels and cleaner for us to clean it ourselves? Anyway. The cabin was nice and included 2 sets of bunks with a trundle bed under each. The mattresses are covered with a heavy duty cover and we were very comfortable with our sleeping bags. The heater worked well. The lake is beautiful and we’ll definitely be back during the summer. - Paige Park

Wakara Campground Introduce

For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Manti, Utah area, Wakara Campground is located in Manti, UT 84642, USA. The campground appears to offer a variety of accommodation options, including at least one cabin type (the White Pine cabin) and presumably traditional campsites. Based on recent customer reviews, Wakara Campground presents a mixed experience, with positive aspects like the beautiful lake but also significant concerns regarding cleanliness and security, which local users should carefully consider when planning their "camping near me" getaway.

The Environment: Lakeside Beauty

One of the consistently praised features of Wakara Campground is its beautiful lake. The reviewer who stayed in the White Pine cabin mentioned the lake and expressed a desire to return during the summer, implying that the lake is a significant attraction, especially during warmer months. Lakes in mountainous regions like Manti, Utah, often offer scenic views and opportunities for various water-based activities, although these are not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews for Wakara Campground.

The general environment of Wakara Campground, beyond the lake, is not extensively described in the provided feedback. However, being located in Manti, Utah, suggests proximity to the Manti-La Sal National Forest, known for its diverse landscapes, including mountains, forests, and recreational areas. Local users familiar with this region will likely appreciate the potential for outdoor activities and natural beauty surrounding Wakara Campground.

Accommodation Options and Features:

The reviews specifically mention the availability of at least one cabin type, the White Pine cabin. This cabin is described as "nice" and equipped with two sets of bunks, each with a trundle bed underneath, providing ample sleeping space, particularly for families or groups. The mattresses had heavy-duty covers, and the reviewer found them comfortable with sleeping bags. The cabin also featured a heater that worked well, which is a significant advantage, especially during the off-season or cooler nights.

However, a major concern raised by the cabin reviewer was the lack of cleanliness upon arrival during the "off-season" (late March). The fridge and dining table were "visibly dirty," indicating that the cabin had not been properly cleaned between stays. The absence of on-site staff during the off-season exacerbated this issue, as the guests had not brought cleaning supplies and had to resort to using baby wipes. The reviewer suggested that even if cleaning services are reduced during the off-season, providing basic cleaning supplies in the cabins would be a reasonable expectation for guests.

Beyond the White Pine cabin, the availability and features of traditional campsites at Wakara Campground are not detailed in the provided reviews. Local users interested in tent or RV camping would need to inquire about the types of sites available, hookups (if any), and other related amenities.

Services and Amenities:

The reviews provide limited information about the overall services and amenities at Wakara Campground. The mention of the lack of on-site staff during the off-season by one reviewer suggests that staffing levels may vary depending on the time of year. This could impact the availability of services such as check-in/check-out assistance, maintenance, and security.

The second review raises a significant concern regarding the lack of security at the campground. The reviewer reported that some camping gear was stolen from their site in the afternoon while they were walking. This incident suggests a potential vulnerability in the campground's security measures, which is a critical factor for anyone considering staying there.

Based on typical campground offerings, Wakara Campground might also include:

  • Restroom and shower facilities (their cleanliness and availability, especially during the off-season, are not mentioned).
  • Water access points for campsites.
  • Waste disposal facilities.
  • Potentially picnic tables and fire pits at campsites (though not explicitly stated).

Local users should contact the campground directly to get detailed information about the available services and amenities, and to inquire specifically about security measures.

Features and Activities:

The primary features and potential activities at Wakara Campground appear to be centered around the lake and the natural environment:

  • Lake Access: The beautiful lake is a key attraction, although specific activities like swimming, boating, or fishing are not mentioned in the reviews.
  • Cabin Rentals: At least one type of cabin, the White Pine cabin, is available, offering a more sheltered accommodation option.
  • Potential for Hiking and Nature Exploration: Given the location in Manti, Utah, access to nearby trails and natural areas is likely.

The lack of mention of specific campground amenities like a playground, communal areas, or organized activities suggests that Wakara Campground might be a more rustic or basic camping experience focused on enjoying the natural surroundings.

Promotional Information:

No specific promotional information, discounts, or special offers are mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users interested in potential promotions, especially during the off-season or for longer stays, should contact Wakara Campground directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about any current deals or packages.

Local Area and Activities in Manti, Utah:

As mentioned earlier, Manti, Utah, is located near the Manti-La Sal National Forest, which offers a vast array of outdoor activities. Depending on the season, these could include hiking, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, and scenic drives. The town of Manti itself has historical significance and might offer local attractions or events. Campers at Wakara Campground could potentially explore these nearby opportunities to enhance their trip.

The proximity to the national forest also suggests a rich natural environment with diverse flora and fauna, appealing to nature lovers and those interested in wildlife viewing (beyond the lake itself).

Recommendations for Local Users:

For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Manti, Utah area, Wakara Campground offers the appeal of a beautiful lake and cabin accommodations. However, the recent customer reviews raise significant concerns that need careful consideration.

The issue of cleanliness in the cabin during the off-season suggests that the level of maintenance might vary depending on the time of year and staffing levels. The reported theft of camping gear due to a lack of security is a serious concern that could deter many potential visitors.

Before making a reservation at Wakara Campground, local users are strongly advised to:

  • Contact Wakara Campground directly at (435) 835-7275 or +1 435-835-7275 to inquire about their current cleaning protocols, especially for cabin rentals, and the availability of staff during their intended stay.
  • Specifically ask about the security measures in place at the campground to protect guests and their belongings.
  • Inquire about the types of campsites available (tent, RV), hookups, and other amenities if they are not interested in cabin rentals.
  • Ask about the availability of lake-related activities (swimming, boating, fishing) and any associated rules or equipment rentals.
  • Inquire about potential promotional offers or discounts, especially for local residents or off-season stays.
  • Consider bringing their own cleaning supplies if renting a cabin, especially during the off-season, based on the recent negative experience.
  • Take extra precautions to secure their belongings at their campsite due to the reported lack of security.

In conclusion, while Wakara Campground in Manti, Utah, boasts a beautiful lake and offers cabin rentals, local users searching for "camping near me" should be aware of the reported issues with cleanliness during the off-season and the lack of security. Direct communication with the campground management to address these concerns and gather current information is essential before making a decision to stay at Wakara Campground.
