Lake Hill Campground

Manti LaSal National Forest, Forest Rd 0052, Ephraim, UT 84627, USA

4.0
Nice little pond full of stocked fish. The campgrounds are hilly and rocky so it’s difficult to find a spot to set up a tent. We never saw the camp attendants, I’m not complaining, but they never stocked the toilet paper or cleaned the outhouses so it was a wreck. The people next to us were listening to music real loud and riding loud four wheels way into the night. We had a good time fishing though and the area is gorgeous. Big pines and cedars. Lots of wildlife. - Bryan Tincher

Lake Hill Campground Introduce

For local users searching within the "camping near me" category, Lake Hill Campground, situated in the Manti LaSal National Forest near Ephraim, Utah, offers a blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities, particularly for those interested in fishing and wildlife viewing. However, based on recent customer reviews, it's important to be aware of certain aspects regarding the terrain, amenities, and potential for noise disturbances to ensure a well-informed camping experience. This detailed introduction aims to provide an objective overview of Lake Hill Campground, combining the positive aspects with the concerns raised by visitors.

Location and Accessibility: Lake Hill Campground is located within the Manti LaSal National Forest, with the specific address being Forest Rd 0052, Ephraim, UT 84627, USA. Its location within the national forest suggests a setting surrounded by natural landscapes, including the "big pines and cedars" mentioned in one review, contributing to the overall scenic beauty of the area. Access to the campground is via forest roads, and while no specific details about the road conditions are provided, it's generally advisable to check with local authorities or online resources for any advisories or updates, especially during inclement weather.

The Natural Environment: The reviews consistently praise the natural beauty of Lake Hill Campground and its surroundings. Visitors can expect to be immersed in a landscape characterized by mature pine and cedar trees, creating a picturesque and potentially shaded environment. The presence of a "nice little pond full of stocked fish" adds to the scenic appeal and provides opportunities for fishing. Furthermore, the area is noted for its abundance of wildlife, including squirrels, birds, and butterflies, making it an attractive destination for nature lovers and those interested in wildlife observation. The hilly and rocky terrain, while posing a challenge for tent setup in some areas, also contributes to the unique character of the campground.

Services and Amenities: Based on the user reviews, the amenities at Lake Hill Campground appear to be somewhat basic. One positive aspect mentioned is the presence of running water at the group site #1. Additionally, there is a shared outhouse available for campers' use. However, a significant concern raised is the lack of maintenance of the outhouses, with one reviewer noting that they were not stocked with toilet paper or cleaned. This suggests that visitors should come prepared with their own toiletries and be aware of potentially less-than-ideal sanitation conditions. The availability of "plenty of picnic table space" at least at the group site is a positive for those planning meals at the campground. However, the overall impression is that the focus is more on the natural setting and recreational activities than on providing comprehensive campground amenities.

Features and Activities: The primary features of Lake Hill Campground revolve around its natural setting and the recreational opportunities it offers. The "nice little pond full of stocked fish" is a major draw for anglers, promising a good chance of catching fish. The pond also enhances the overall ambiance of the campground. For those who enjoy group camping, the availability of group site #1, located at a high point with potentially scenic views, is a significant feature. The presence of big trees makes the area suitable for setting up hammocks or hanging chairs, allowing for relaxation and enjoying the surroundings. The diverse wildlife, including squirrels, birds, and butterflies, provides opportunities for nature watching and photography. While not explicitly mentioned, the surrounding Manti LaSal National Forest likely offers trails for hiking and further exploration of the natural landscape.

Important Considerations and Potential Drawbacks: Several important considerations and potential drawbacks emerge from the user reviews. The "hilly and rocky" terrain can make it "difficult to find a spot to set up a tent" in the regular campsites. This suggests that tent campers may need to be prepared to search for suitable, relatively level areas and potentially bring extra padding for comfort. Another significant concern is the potential for noise disturbances from other campers, as one reviewer reported loud music and off-road vehicle use late into the night. This highlights the importance of being prepared for varying levels of noise and potentially bringing earplugs if you are sensitive to sound. Furthermore, the incident involving neighboring campers breaking a statewide fire ban underscores the critical need for all visitors to be aware of and strictly adhere to fire regulations, especially in a national forest setting. While the fire rangers did address the situation, it serves as a reminder of the potential risks and the importance of responsible behavior. The inconsistent maintenance of the outhouses is another factor to consider when planning your trip.

Promotional Information and Conclusion: While specific promotional offers are not available, Lake Hill Campground's primary appeal lies in its beautiful natural environment within the Manti LaSal National Forest, the opportunity for fishing in a stocked pond, and the potential for wildlife viewing. For local users searching for "camping near me" who prioritize these aspects and are prepared for potentially uneven terrain, basic amenities, and the possibility of noise, Lake Hill Campground offers a scenic getaway. The availability of a group campsite with running water and ample picnic space makes it suitable for larger gatherings. However, prospective visitors should be aware of the reported issues with outhouse maintenance and the potential for noise disturbances. It is advisable to contact the Manti LaSal National Forest office at the provided phone number, (435) 283-4151 or +1 435-283-4151, for the most current information on campground conditions, fire restrictions, and any other relevant advisories before planning your visit.
