Wagon Wheel Campground Wisconsin Introduce
For local residents in search of 'camping near me' in the Briggsville, Wisconsin area, Wagon Wheel Campground Wisconsin, located at 4106 1st Dr, Briggsville, WI 53920, USA, presents itself as an option. They can be contacted at (608) 981-2161 or +1 608-981-2161. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground offers a mix of positive aspects, particularly for seasonal campers, but also presents some considerations for those planning shorter stays, especially with larger RVs.
One long-term seasonal camper shared a positive experience, highlighting the opportunity to meet "great people" and praising the "wonderful" lake access. Their enjoyment over almost five years suggests a welcoming community for seasonal residents and a significant amenity in the lake access. This could be a strong draw for locals considering a seasonal camping arrangement.
However, reviews from transient campers reveal a more nuanced picture. One visitor noted that Wagon Wheel Campground has a significant number of permanent sites, with only an estimated 10 to 15 sites observed as being reservable for short-term stays. This limited availability for travelers might make securing a spot challenging, especially during peak seasons. Additionally, the campground operates on a cash or check only basis, a policy that could be inconvenient for those who primarily use credit or debit cards. The lack of online reservations further adds to the traditional, and potentially less convenient, booking process.
The condition of the campsites themselves appears to be influenced by weather. One reviewer with a 34-foot fifth wheel encountered very wet, grassy sites due to rain, making it difficult to maneuver their RV into the initially assigned spot. They had to move to a different site to successfully park. The reviewer suggested that gravel pads would be beneficial, particularly in wet conditions, to improve site stability and prevent issues with getting RVs in and out. They also mentioned having to trim tree limbs to avoid scratching their camper, indicating potential issues with site maintenance and clearance.
In terms of activities, the reviewer noted that there weren't many organized options available. However, the pool was open and reported to be "very clean," which could be a significant plus for families and individuals looking to cool off during their stay. The reviewer also mentioned limited sunny weather during their visit, which might have impacted their overall experience.
Based on their experience with a fifth wheel camper, the reviewer offered specific advice, recommending Wagon Wheel Campground primarily for pull-behind campers no longer than 30 feet, particularly for sites in the upper 300 number range. This suggests that larger RVs, especially fifth wheels, might face challenges with site size, access, and potentially low-hanging branches in certain areas of the campground.
On a positive note, the reviewer acknowledged that the owner did check on them to ensure they could get their camper out, although they managed the situation themselves. They also expressed gratitude towards the "permanent John and his wife" for being very friendly and helpful. The restrooms were also described as "pretty clean," which is an important aspect of campground comfort.
Another positive mentioned was the early check-in offered without an extra charge. This gesture of customer service was appreciated by the reviewer.
The reviewer also included a perspective from their husband, who has a CDL and extensive experience backing up large vehicles. His potential review, hinted at as being "different," might have focused more on the logistical challenges of navigating the campground and maneuvering larger RVs. The reviewer also expressed disappointment that the campground owners might not be receptive to constructive criticism, drawing on their own family's long history of business ownership.
Considering these varied experiences, Wagon Wheel Campground Wisconsin offers a community that is appreciated by seasonal residents, with the added benefit of lake access. For short-term visitors, especially those with larger RVs, there are several factors to consider. The limited number of reservable sites, the cash or check only payment policy, and the lack of online reservations might be less convenient for some. The grassy and potentially wet campsites, along with the need for tree trimming in some areas, could pose challenges for larger vehicles.
However, the clean pool and restrooms are definite positives. The friendly permanent residents and the early check-in offer glimpses of good customer interaction. The lake access, while primarily mentioned by a seasonal camper, could still be a significant draw for all visitors.
For local users searching under 'camping near me,' Wagon Wheel Campground presents a traditional camping experience with a strong sense of community among seasonal residents and the valuable amenity of lake access. If you are a local looking for a seasonal site, the positive feedback regarding the community suggests a welcoming environment. For short-term campers, especially those with smaller pull-behind campers, the clean pool and restrooms could be appealing. However, those with larger RVs, a preference for online booking and credit card payments, or a need for guaranteed dry and spacious sites might want to inquire specifically about site availability and conditions before making a reservation. The limited number of transient sites also suggests booking well in advance might be necessary.
To promote the campground to local users, highlighting the lake access and the friendly community atmosphere could be effective. Emphasizing the cleanliness of the pool and restrooms would also be beneficial. For attracting seasonal campers, the long-term positive experiences shared by current residents could be a strong selling point. However, transparency regarding the cash-only policy, the limited number of transient sites, and the potential for wet, grassy conditions for RVs would be essential for managing expectations.
In conclusion, Wagon Wheel Campground Wisconsin offers a lake-access camping experience with a strong seasonal community. Local users considering short-term stays, particularly those with larger RVs or specific amenity preferences, should be aware of the cash-only policy, limited reservable sites, and potential for wet, grassy conditions. Inquiring directly about site suitability for your specific needs is highly recommended. The clean pool and restrooms, along with the friendly permanent residents, offer some positive aspects to consider.

Wagon Wheel Campground Wisconsin Reviews
We have met great people while being a seasonal at Wagonwheel! The lake access was wonderful. We had good times there for almost 5 years!
Oct 19, 2024 · Grace & Jerome BauerThis campground has a lot of permanent sites They have about 10 to 15 sites that we saw that are reservable. They only take cash or checks and I'm thinking the reasoning is because they don't accept credit cards and they can save on the fees. You can't make reservations online. When I made the reservations I said we had a fifth wheel and it was 34 ft. Because of the rain it was very wet and we were not able to get it in the site that we were given We had other options so we moved two sites down and we managed to get it in there. It was grass sites and very wet because of all the rain that we have been getting. A gravel pad would have be beneficial in this case. We were concerned about getting it out We did have to trim some tree limbs so the camper didn't get scratched up. There wasn't really any activities to do however the pool was open and very clean there was a little bit of sun one day. If you have a fifth wheel camper I would not recommend this place only for a pull behind camper I wouldn't say no more than 30 ft for the upper 300 numbered sites. The owner did come to our site and made sure that we were okay to get our camper out but we took care of everything ourself. The permanent John and his wife were very friendly and very helpful to us I could not thank them enough. The restrooms were also pretty clean. On a good note we got there at about 12:30-1:00 and let us check in an hour early with no extra cost. My husband does have a CDL and knows how to back in very well as he drove a semi We did not refuse a site because of a back in. We had to trim 2 branches off the trees so they they didn't scratch our RV. If my husband was to make a review it would be different. I'm sorry that the owners now of this camp ground a family business can not take constructive criticism. My family owned a business for 55 years I know how things should be taken care of and run.We have been camping for over 20 years and have been to a lot of campgrounds over the years. I think I now have address all the issues that they have mentioned below. We are 56 and 61 and don't have a problem driving.
Jun 27, 2024 · Sheila DorsettWe were early in the season, so all park facilities weren't yet open, however, other park tenants were incredibly helpful and friendly.Park is conveniently located close to the Dells and Devil's Lake SP.Beautiful lake front access!
May 26, 2022 · Robert TyroneThe place is really run down. Bathrooms are closed for fake wohan virus yet no other campgrounds are. The rv dealer close by said they won't go there to help owners because of there bad attitude. Campers they would but not owners. This edit is in response to the misinformed owners response to my review. No I am not accosiated with any campground from anywhere. Your research is wrong so where do you claim the campground is that I'm from ?I did stop there to check the camping possibilities and you personally said no bathrooms were open. There was junk piled next to many sites as anyone can plainly see. Yes being a buisness owner you should be concerned with all reviews good or bad. Our stay across the lake was great, friendly and affordable. All facilitates were OPEN and clean. Take some pride in your run down campground. And if my name is in this review then how am I hiding anything ?If anyone is hiding it's you from the scrap man and the garbage collector.Sham on you.
Aug 04, 2020 · Thom LewisOk. Unprofessional owners and dirty bathroom facilities. The lake is nice. It is like a trailer park atmosphere where people live there and everyone knows each other. Very uncomfortable experience, never had such a strange camping environment.
