Let's delve into the details of what Wakeda Campground has to offer local campers.
Wakeda Campground is situated in Hampton Falls, a town in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, known for its proximity to the Atlantic coast and a blend of rural and coastal charm. While the campground itself doesn't feature a major body of water like a lake or river within its boundaries, its location provides excellent access to the diverse environment of the New Hampshire seacoast, characterized by:
- Easy Access to the Seacoast: A significant advantage of Wakeda Campground is its convenient location, offering "easy access to all the NH seacoast has to offer." This includes popular destinations like Hampton Beach, Seabrook Beach, and the historic city of Portsmouth, with their beaches, attractions, restaurants, and entertainment options.
- Quiet and Peaceful Setting: Despite its size, reviewers describe the campground as "VERY quiet and peaceful," making it an appealing retreat for those seeking relaxation away from the busier coastal areas. This suggests a well-maintained environment that prioritizes tranquility.
- Wooded Areas: Being located in southern New Hampshire, the campground likely features wooded areas, providing shade and a natural ambiance for campsites and cabins. The "nice campsites set among the oaks" mentioned by one reviewer supports this.
- Proximity to Local Amenities: Hampton Falls and the surrounding towns offer various local amenities, including shops, restaurants, and services, easily accessible from the campground.
- Seasonal Changes: New Hampshire experiences distinct seasons, offering different environmental experiences throughout the year, from warm summers perfect for beach trips to colorful autumn foliage and cooler evenings ideal for campfires (where permitted).
Based on the customer reviews, Wakeda Campground provides a range of services and amenities to cater to different camping preferences:
- Campsites for Weekend Warriors: The campground accommodates "weekend warriors" with "nice campsites," suggesting availability for short-term stays alongside seasonal residents. The size of these campsites is described as "big enough for several tents," indicating ample space for various camping setups.
- Cabin Rentals: For those seeking more comfort, Wakeda Campground offers cabin rentals. These cabins are described as "clean" and equipped with "everything we needed except sheets, pillows and covers," suggesting basic amenities for a comfortable stay. They also feature "bunk beds," making them suitable for families with children. However, finding the cabins late at night could be "a bit challenging" even with a map, so clear directions upon arrival are advisable.
- Mini Golf: A recreational amenity available at the campground is "mini golf," which was enjoyed by children, providing on-site entertainment for families.
- Potable Water: While not explicitly mentioned in the context of individual sites, the availability of potable water is a standard expectation at campgrounds for drinking and other needs.
- Friendly Staff: Reviewers consistently mention that "Everyone we encountered was friendly," highlighting a positive and welcoming atmosphere created by the campground staff.
However, some aspects of the services and amenities received mixed feedback:
- Pay-Per-Use Showers: One reviewer expressed dissatisfaction with having to "pay for showers," noting the inconvenience of needing quarters. This is a factor to consider for campers who prefer not to pay extra for showers.
- Lack of On-Site Water Features: The campground itself does not have a "main attraction like a lake or river," which might be a drawback for those specifically seeking waterfront camping within the property. However, its location compensates for this with easy access to the coast.
Wakeda Campground offers several features that make it a notable option for local campers:
- Large Campground: Its size suggests a significant number of campsites and potentially a variety of camping environments within the property.
- Quiet and Peaceful Ambiance: The consistently mentioned tranquility makes it an ideal choice for those seeking a relaxing getaway.
- Convenient Access to the NH Seacoast: Its location serves as a perfect basecamp for exploring the beaches, towns, and attractions along the New Hampshire coast.
- Family-Friendly Amenities: The presence of mini golf and cabins with bunk beds indicates a focus on providing a positive experience for families.
- Mix of Seasonal and Short-Term Camping: The blend of seasonal residents and weekend visitors can create a stable yet welcoming community atmosphere.
When local users search for "camping near me" and consider Wakeda Campground, they are likely looking for a base from which to explore the New Hampshire seacoast or a quiet retreat within easy reach of coastal amenities. The Hampton Falls and surrounding seacoast area offers a wide range of attractions:
- Hampton Beach: A popular destination with a boardwalk, arcades, shops, restaurants, and a variety of events and entertainment.
- Seabrook Beach: Known for its quieter atmosphere and beautiful sandy shores.
- Portsmouth: A historic city with a vibrant downtown, featuring colonial architecture, museums, restaurants, and a thriving arts scene.
- Rye Beach: Offers stunning coastal scenery, including rocky shores and sandy stretches.
- Odiorne Point State Park: Features natural and historical exhibits, hiking trails, and opportunities for wildlife viewing along the coast.
- Whale Watching Tours: Several companies offer whale watching tours departing from nearby harbors.
- Tax-Free Shopping: New Hampshire's lack of sales tax can be an added bonus for shoppers visiting the seacoast.
One reviewer found the cabin "a bit pricey for what it was," noting that a budget motel stay the following night ended up being cheaper. This suggests that local users considering cabin rentals should compare prices with other lodging options in the area to ensure it aligns with their budget and expectations. The fee for showers is also an additional cost to factor into the overall expense of camping at Wakeda Campground.
While specific promotional offers are not mentioned in the provided information, the following points highlight why local users might choose Wakeda Campground for their "camping near me" needs:
- Ideal Seacoast Location: Enjoy easy access to all the attractions and activities the New Hampshire seacoast has to offer.
- Peaceful and Quiet Retreat: Unwind in a tranquil campground setting away from the coastal crowds.

Wakeda Campground Reviews
This is a large campground. Lots of seasonal rigs but still some nice campsites for us weekend warriors. VERY quiet and peaceful. There is no main attraction like a lake or river in the campground, but the location gives you easy access to all the NH seacoast has to offer. For us, a perfect close weekend getaway and relax.
Sep 19, 2024 · Richard WhitneyThe property is really nice. It was clean and my kids enjoyed the mini golf. We stayed for one night in a cabin. We arrived very late at night and it was a bit challenging to find the cabin, even with the map. Everyone we encountered was friendly. My kids really liked the bunk beds. I realized that camping is not for me, unless it’s in an RV. I did not like that you had to pay for showers. Mainly because it’s a pain if you don’t have quarters on you. I thought it was a bit pricey for what it was. The following day we stayed at a budget motel which ended up being cheaper than the cabin.
Aug 16, 2024 · Lynsey SmithWhat a hidden gem. The campground was perfect spot. Nice location and the owners were gracious and friendly. All the work in the campground is done by the owner and staff. They have a mill on site they plain the wood that they cut trees down with and use that to repair and make things in the campground. Picnic tables, new front porch on main building, new cabins, and many more things. Great worksman and idea. Nice work. We walked and explored the campground.
Oct 02, 2024 · TraciAnn KeimAbout a ~30 drive to Hampton beach, pretty straight forward. Many other destinations for that matter are close by and easy going. Getting into campground, and campsite easy. Ground is cleared nicely, easy to walk around in the site. Fees are reasonable, friendly staff. Very clean, bathrooms clean and well stocked. Great place to stay with a tent, camper or rent a cabin!
Jul 06, 2024 · jessica desiletsWonderful campground, only a short drive to the beach and other attractions. Super clean, quiet and nice fresh water at the site. Will be our go-to for many years to come - great place! About the only qualm (not the campground's fault) is the extremely weak cellular signal in the area... those with need for connecting to the outside world will need to visit the trading post to jump on the free wifi.
