Overall great experience, so here’s a summary:🚽: probably the best smelling outhouses I’ve ever used. Kind of a weird comment, but it makes a difference—not wanting to vomit while going to the bathroom like at mirror lake.🐶it can be hard to find dog friendly campsites, but it was super nice that this area is really open to dogs.💦: there’s no water, but there are comfort/water stations close by.🏕: the campsites are so big and pretty well spaced apart (the only exception being the lake-side spots being a little closer together together, but I feel like we all understand why). And the cement pads surrounding the fire were pretty big. Oh! And the little stands for your camp ovens. So cool.🛶: the lake was really nice and serene. Some paddle boarders, some fishers.🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️: the camp hosts were super friendly and nice. - Sheila M

Washington Lake Campground Introduce

Are you searching for "camping near me" and yearning for a picturesque escape in the Uintah Mountains near Kamas, Utah? Washington Lake Campground, nestled within the Wasatch Cache National Forest off FR038, Kamas, UT 84036, USA, comes highly recommended by recent visitors for its scenic beauty, spacious campsites, and welcoming atmosphere. If you're looking to avoid the crowds of more popular destinations while still enjoying a stunning lakeside experience, Washington Lake Campground might be your ideal retreat.

One of the standout features of Washington Lake Campground is its breathtaking scenery. Described as "one of the most scenic campgrounds in the Uintah mountains," it promises to deliver on visual appeal. Many campsites boast "beautiful views of the lake," allowing campers to wake up to and unwind with stunning vistas right from their site. The serene lake itself is a major attraction, inviting activities such as paddle boarding and fishing. Visitors have described the lake as "really nice and serene," making it a perfect spot for peaceful enjoyment on the water.

For those traveling with furry companions, Washington Lake Campground is noted for being exceptionally dog-friendly. One reviewer highlighted that "it can be hard to find dog friendly campsites, but it was super nice that this area is really open to dogs." This welcoming policy makes it an excellent choice for pet owners who want to share their camping adventure with their canine friends.

The campsites at Washington Lake Campground are another significant advantage. They are reported to be "so big and pretty well spaced apart," offering campers ample room and a sense of privacy. The only slight exception mentioned is for the lake-side spots, which are a little closer together, a trade-off many campers find worthwhile for the premium lake access and views. Furthermore, the campsites feature "paved sites with many having beautiful views of the lake and big enough to accommodate even large RVs." This accessibility for larger recreational vehicles makes Washington Lake Campground a versatile option for a wide range of camping setups.

Adding to the convenience and thoughtful design of the campsites are the amenities provided. Reviewers have noted the "cement pads surrounding the fire" which are described as "pretty big," offering a safe and defined area for campfires. Additionally, the presence of "little stands for your camp ovens" is highlighted as a "so cool" feature, indicating a thoughtful addition that enhances the cooking experience for campers.

The facilities at Washington Lake Campground also receive positive feedback, particularly the outhouses. In a somewhat unusual but appreciated comment, one reviewer stated that the outhouses were "probably the best smelling I’ve ever used," contrasting this favorably with the experience at other campgrounds like Mirror Lake. This attention to the cleanliness of basic facilities can significantly improve the overall camping experience.

The camp hosts at Washington Lake Campground are consistently described as friendly and helpful. One reviewer summarized, "the camp hosts were super friendly and nice," while another mentioned that "the host is very friendly." Positive interactions with campground staff can greatly enhance a visitor's stay, providing assistance and contributing to a welcoming atmosphere.

For those seeking a quieter alternative to more crowded campgrounds in the Uintah Mountains, Washington Lake Campground, with its limited number of 39 campsites, offers a more serene experience. As one reviewer pointed out, "With only 39 campsites, you can avoid the crowds that Mirror Lake draws (Sooo many people . . .)." This makes it an ideal choice for campers looking for a more peaceful and less congested environment.

However, there are a couple of important drawbacks that potential visitors need to be aware of. Firstly, "there’s no water" available at the campsites. While one reviewer mentioned "comfort/water stations close by," it is crucial to understand that potable water for drinking and cooking is not directly available at each site. Campers will need to plan accordingly by bringing their own water supply or utilizing the nearby water stations, which may require some effort and planning.

Secondly, the Crystal Lake trail passes through the campground, resulting in "LOTS of hikers on the Crystal Lake trail that goes through the campground." While this provides an opportunity for hikers staying at the campground to easily access the trail, it also means that campers can expect a significant amount of foot traffic passing through their camping area. This might impact the sense of privacy and tranquility for some campers, especially during peak hiking times.

Finally, one reviewer noted that "The Lake is fuller than last year at this same time, but with the drought, expect it to be low by season's end." This indicates that the water level of Washington Lake can fluctuate depending on seasonal conditions and drought patterns. While the lake might be appealing at the beginning of the camping season, potential visitors later in the year should be prepared for the possibility of lower water levels.

In summary, Washington Lake Campground offers a compelling "camping near me" option for local users seeking a scenic and relatively less crowded experience in the Uintah Mountains. Its spacious and dog-friendly campsites, combined with the beauty of Washington Lake and the friendliness of the camp hosts, make it a highly recommended destination. The thoughtful amenities like paved sites, fire rings with cement pads, and camp oven stands add to the convenience. However, the lack of potable water at the campsites and the significant foot traffic from the Crystal Lake trail are important considerations that require planning and awareness. Additionally, the potential for fluctuating lake levels should be kept in mind, especially for late-season campers.

For local users looking for a beautiful and well-maintained campground with excellent lake access and dog-friendly policies, Washington Lake Campground is a strong contender. Just remember to bring your own water and be prepared for hikers passing through. Contacting the campground directly at (385) 273-1100 or +1 385-273-1100 for reservations and any specific inquiries about campsite locations relative to the trail and water stations is highly recommended to ensure a camping experience that perfectly suits your needs.
